I was so disappointed that we barely saw her in the jail at all. About 5 - 10 minutes of screentime? It made me kinda angry. I just wish we saw the trails she went through mentally and even possibly physically in prison. It just felt like it was completely built up just to be struck down straight away.

    - The Long Game (Needed more time to establish the world building, and the villain is defeated way too fast)
    - New Earth (Just imagine this episode with more runtime and higher budget)
    - Tooth And Claw (Everything felt so rushed, it really needed more runtime)
    - Gridlock (Same reason with New Earth)
    - Victory Of The Daleks (Everything, i mean everything felt so rushed. Also i think Daleks revealing their true purpose would make a good cliffhanger)
    - Let's Kill Hitler (Needed more time with Tessalecta and Hitler before River takes all the attention, and imagine this episode Amy and Rory, Tessalecta and Nazis chasing River all over WW2 Berlin)

the power of three was supposed to end differently, but the actor who played the villain was so annoying they basically had to fire him and rewrite the ending to the lackluster we got. as for time of the doctor, Moffat originally wanted it to be an entire series, but for various reasons that didn't happen

  • @-callmecrazy-5859

I really wish that Clara had left after 'Kill the Moon'. You just don't get instances where a companion leaves out of anger with the doctor. They sometimes do choose to leave, but not on bad terms. It would have been a great ending for her and would teach the doctor more of an impactful lesson as it was set up to be.

    • @Croftice1
      @Croftice1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

But exactly that happend. Clara was angry and she left. It was the Doctor, who "brought her back". It was him, who talked her into a last adventure, just this one last and we're done. Clara was ok with the idea. Then at the end of the episode, she changed her mind, because she wasn't angry with the Doctor anymore and loved the thrill. If the Doctor didn't offer her the Orient Express in space adventure, she wouldn't come back, she would've left in anger, just as you said. So do not blame her, blame the Doctor.

Though I agree that, at the very least, if they weren't going to make it a full series, at least make it a two-parter so that it's not so condensed.

The 12th Doctor story Sleep no More was MEANT to be a two or three part story. Mark Gatiss has said he wanted it to play out like the old classic Who stories, such as The Yetis and The Web of Fear, where the Doctor fought the same enemy in two separate stories, that would interconnect in some way. The Sandmen would have been finally defeated in either the second or third story with them in, and it would have probably worked really well too, sadly Chibnall wanted to bring his own writers in..........
Maybe the next show run will bring back the previous writers like Gatiss so they can finish off the stories they started.

I adore season six. It's my favourite out of all of Doctor Who even though 6B buckles quite a bit after the revelation about who River is. Having said that, the finale always irked me because there truly is SO MUCH happening but the reason it isn't a two parter is because...there actually isn't much happening at all, narratively speaking. River's refused to kill the Doctor and altered time. The Doctor marries her and resets the timeline, bringing the Teselector as the Doctor who gets killed, enabling the timeline to (somehow) continue without the Doctor dying. Yet what we get are BBC interviews with Dickens, pterodactyls in the park, Roman chariots at intersections, Madame Kovarian, Amy not knowing who Rory is, all filtered through the Doctor explaining all this to Winston Churchill.
I also adore the Moff, but everything I typed out reeks of him trying to tszuj up a pretty simple story. I rewatched series six and was actually surprised at how little happens in the finale. I was also surprised that - for a story centred on River Song, altering the timeline twice and marrying the Doctor (and finding out his name) why SHE wasn't the main focus of the episode, especially since you spent 2.5 years building up the mystery of who she is. We should have seen her forced into the astronaut suit. We should have seen the plan Amy and River made that's thrown away in dialogue in the alternate timeline. We should have seen the capturing of Madame Kovarian...all through River's eyes. It's STILL Doctor Who because the man she loves and the man she kills and doesn't kill is THE DOCTOR. There's no issue.
Alex does a phenomenal job in communicating how much she cares about the Doctor, but it would have been nice to actually see that. Actually see her singlehandedly make time implode and make the time 3:02pm perpetually. We should have seen her struggle against wanting to kill the Doctor and her devotion to him. In some ways, the series 6 finale should have actually been part 2 of A Good Man Goes to War, not being the following episode, but a thematic sequel. By shifting the perspective from the Doctor to River, it probably would have been a much stronger episode while retaining Area 52 pyramids, Roman Emperor Churchill and the impromptu wedding as simple window dressing instead of those elements being the window.

Honestly there are very few new who stories that wouldn't be miles better with a second part. Dalek, the demons of Punjab, etc. are really good because they're simple stories and so nothing gets confused. The episode I want more from is blink because, as it stands, the angels' actions make no sense (they must know they shouldn't look at each other, there's no reason to go up to the TARDIS, etc.) but the core ideas (weeping angels and messages on DVDs) are great, they just need more time to gel properly.

I agree with pretty much everything here, and the common thread with a lot of these is that the episodes really rush towards a climax. The exception I'd say is "Fugitive of the Judoon", which does feel like a 2-parter in that once you get to the reveal halfway that it feels like a different episode. It makes me wonder if that was originally the plan but they didn't have space within the season.

I couldn't agree more about the Power of Three. I remember when this episode aired, I was absolutely on the edge of my seat. It was legitimately one of the most compelling stories of Who I had ever seen - having been in it right from the start of New Who.
When the horribly rushed conclusion came and the credits rolled, I just said... "oh."
I just couldn't believe such an incredible set-up could have such a lame conclusion that absolutely sunk this incredibly promising episode into mediocrity.
I feel all these problems could've been fixed if it had been a two-parter. This would've also given more time for a more fleshed-out and less contrived conclusion. Imagine if this episode had been like "Midnight" and the nature of these cubes was never revealed, but rather the human race had to work together to clear this pest, but there was an uneven amount of resources in each country to remove them, leading to wars between countries to develop this anti-cube.... oh wait this is covid. Still, would've been a MUCH better story than the one we got. It's such a shame that a story with so much potential was just tossed out the window like that.

I too think that Jenny should have had more screentime in Doctor Who. And, tbh, I was quite happy seeing her in a couple of episodes of Torchwood again. So, basically, she got more than just one appearance and did have more impact and character depth than you mentioned (just no in the main show but a spinoff).

Just about every story should have been two partners, the show used to be a serial, adventures went for up to 2 or 3 hours in the early days, but when you try and condense a serial into single episodes the ideas are always going to feel cramped and underdeveloped and also it means they chew up way more stories than the original series did cos they dont spend any time developing them which in turn makes you feel like youre watching alot of unexplored stories that are spat out and dispensed with before you can get invested properly in them.

Skipped through and realized you hadn't included 'The Eaters of Light' a nearly great episode with wonderful locations which then has loads of plot development happen off camera when the doctor is in a different temporal flow, so it is told not shown. It then hurriedly kills off half developed characters whom we've hardly met and expects us to mourn them. Classic "We ran out of budget" stuff (probably resulting in the awful 'Empress of Mars' as a studio bound filler).

Isn't it slightly telling that quite a few of these were Chibnall scripts? I have nothing against him but I do agree with the common complaint of rushed plots. The Ghost Monument and The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos defo could have been expanded better but I don't think Fugitive of the Judoon needed anymore time. Also, another Chibnall script The Power of Three I honestly wouldn't have wanted a part Two. It very much needed maybe an extra ten minutes to satisfyingly wrap up the plot but just how stretched out can that general conceit be? It gets a bit boring at times so two episodes of it would have been... Eh. And finally, The Time of the Doctor was gonna be a whole series, Smith just decided to leave (Which he later regretted) so Moffat condensed it into one special.

Wedding of river song part 2 would either be a totally different story expanding on ''the center of time'', or a likely rather dull where'd she go after the library ? 🙄 Judoon probably is judoon for space rhino police ; ju - do - o(o)n .
