Moving them up to the awesome enclosure when you have so few is probably why you hadn't seen babies. It's generally recommended to keep them in a smaller enclosure until they begin to breed, so they don't struggle as much to find each other for mating. Hopefully you still have success, though!
Yeah I know but I didn't want to keep them in the ''crappy'' terrarium for too long. I'll probably going to order some more too increase the chance of them mating
Your spot on . The best way to keep all isopods is keep them in small containers and when their are way to many either make a new colony or upgrade the enclosure size. Splitting is the best option because if something happens to one colony you can always repopulate it with the other colony. I used to be super into isopods. But then I realized it's such a niche market that they do not sell very well. I had yellow, chocolate, Champaign zebra isopods and couldn't even give them away.
Your videos are always so calming to watch. Thanks for the new upload! I'm surprisingly intrigued by keeping non-traditional pets now, like isopods or grasshoppers.
I love Isopods. Just such a shame duckies are so shy. I never see mine. On the other hand, Dairy Cow Isopods are raving lunatics. I have those too, hilarious
Yes my duckies I would never find unless I started digging around. My dairy cows are active, plenty and I like watching them wrestle each other over food 😂
I recently acquired a couple of tiny marine isopods. It's so neat how much they look exactly like the roly polies in my garden, just a different color. I have a clump of seaweed growing in there that they like to crawl around in.
AntsCanade got so bad, from being interesting cool ants videos and genuinely seeing him care for the ants and take care of them to "WHICH COLOUR ANT WOULD WIN IN A THREE-WAY **ANT WAR**?!?!" He's completely unwatchable nowadays, this channel is way better
Stumbled on to your channel while looking for terrarium and vivarium ideas. But I've now started watching your videos for the entertainment aspect! Great stuff! 😄
Two marks of a good comedian is the ability improvise, and the ability to double down on and rehash the same material and still be funny. This one cracked me. Also every video is really informative!
You have made me feel braver about moving on to my rubber duckie level. I have been afraid and only stuck with Armadillidium and Porcellio species so far. But I think I can do it following your example. :)
"The crowd goes wild!" (the crowd of cricket Bobs in the neighbouring terrarium)😆 Nice work mate! Hopefully with all the 'fertility' images and Bob's sigma rizz there'll be plenty of little Boblings scurrying around in no time 🤞🏼
For caves, i've had success with terrarium foam and using aquarium gravel and slate or limestone. But caves are... really surprisingly hard to build. At this point I just get terracotta plants, shove them into soil at an angle, and throw moss or carpeting plants on them (For aquatic) And glad to see you put the safety and health of the animals, i'm tired of seeing 'do it yourself aquariums' that are just fish bowls with three goldfish and some glitter rocks
Thought of your channel today when I saw a springtail in my potplant. No idea how it got in there as I didn’t put it there and the plants are indoor. The only thing I could think of was I repotted recently with “bioactive” soil, but that bag was air sealed probably ages from production to sitting on a shelf, and I’m sure as a biologist you can tell me, animals need air. I didn’t realise how TINY those guys are. Props for filming such tiny tiny things with such detail.
I may not have fancy bug book learning. However, it was abundantly clear to me that from a young age, Bob was destined to grow up and become a rubber ducky stud. As always, I was 100% correct. His seed will be spread as far and as wide as the tank that is his crib. Long after he's gone, his ba5tard babies will inherit his legacy! This comment was dedicated to Bobroll E Poly. A true hero of the isopod community, for reasons I can't think of at the moment. 😜
Bro you're so funny that I subbed to you even though I don't really care about bug farms and terrariums! (I Understand that these are crustacean just in case haha) Your terrain skills are crazy tho, you're awesome!
I can't wait for spring, plan to practice with the temperate local species, found some gorgeous ones right outside my door! Rusty reds, dark with yellow or purple spots, really stunned!
Wow! Who woulda thunk that there’s a whole subculture of Isopod ethusaists and breeders! I’m not throwing any shade… unless they want it of course. Fascinating.

i have Cubaris panda kings. They and the duckies are both Cubaris sp. and live in similar conditions and my guy... i have found a snack that they REALLY like. And it doesnt mold like fish food might. Crushed up, human-grade magnesium and spirullina or chlorella supplements! Dust it on a small spot and within hours you'll witness all the duckies gathering
All jokes aside, schlongs and caves too. You do a really great job of keeping your audience entertained, at least I was. You turned a somewhat unusual subject into a fun and educational experience, and your humor is epic! I love how you work your way up to this peak point and then you drop a funny. I definitely subscribed to this channel and I'm looking forward to see how these Dicklings grow and multiply. What About Bob? I'm hoping Bob makes you a proud grandpa. Thanks for giving me a laugh this morning. Take care and Keep on Ducking.

They manage to reproduce in their natural habitat, which is bigger than that terrarium, they will be fine 😒

As a viewer I can tell, you've improved as an biologist, You called out a name of a plant WOW
I'm learning!
Calling one plant by its name does not a biologist make. However, calling all your bugs 'Bob' does.

Maybe they're hard to breed because nobody will commit to building them a shlong cave.
😂 i'll try it
Do you want to breed to sell or do you want more of them as pets?
This is a very lucid comment
I literally spit water at 2:03 so well done lad! I don’t see a lot of videos lately that make me actually laugh out loud.
That delivery driver had quite the arm.
First time viewer got this in my recommended and man your content is gold.

I'd like to start a poll to rename Bob
What should Bob's named be changed to?
• A) Bob
• B) Bob
• C) Bob
D) Bob
Bobby 5 Star Plus..
Definitely A: Bob
Or 80b
boB (spelled backwards)
I’m going with A but honestly, he should keep the name
I will now be softly saying, "awesuuuum!", all weekend. Thanks Homemade Ecosystems! (My wife will be thrilled. 😆)

i love the color of these isopods. they're such a pretty shade of yellow. also schlong cave is the most beautiful place i've ever seen.

Sweet! Thanks for the video to watch on vacation!
have a nice vacation!
Thanks, Bob, for your excellent videos.
Love this channel and your sense of humor !!!!.🤣😂🤣😂
I was literally just telling my mother about rubber ducky isopods! amazing timing 😊
There is already a bob in the terrarium on the stone 8:05
yep that Bob came in with the moss
Hope bob and the other bob's don't start a fight club there..
that bob was just the house inspector

I have silver fish living in my bathroom.
They are not really silver, or fish, but they are clean.
those are pretty cool! they are actually a bit silver if you look closely. And they are a fish, just like these isopods.😂
@@HomemadeEcosystems As biologists, we can also use the good old trick of only accepting monophyletic groupings and call humans fish too!

Binge watching this channel today i love it. Thank you for such good content.
isopods have gills so they're basically fish but also they look like ducks so they're birds

To be inclusive you should build them wooden hoohoos and call a few of them Bobette.
😂
As a fellow terrarium maker and five year veteran of the craft. I can confirm that those are indeed some kind of plant. Just don't ask me what kind.
If you consider by weight, what would you rather have: one German Shepherd or 635,020 isopods? I rest my case.

rubber ducky rolypolys are so cute
This is why it's great to be an isopod.
BTW the "awesome enclosure's " vent holes are big enough for your mancae to escape, all it will take is a leaf or a twig for them to reach and escape.

@homemade ecosystems what site do you buy your bobs from? Since I’m in America would that site work for me?
It is not always the same site but they don't ship to the US . The Bobs wouldn't survive that shipping unfortunatly
