    The Stars were one of THE greatest Aussie pub rock experiences I ever had....Saw them in1978 at the Eureka Hotel in Geelong a couple of times. FFS their Rocky Mountain Way was a showstopper. Pub was always packed for them.

    What a nice mix of melody on the guitars. I love the shuffle by the drummer. Great tune and Mick’s voice has gone to a new level with vibrato. Always enjoy seeing Stars live. Thanks for the vid Roger.

    This is the best sounding song of Stars in a long time. Is that Geoff Achison on guitar? Where was this video shot?

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks TMNL.... All the info is in the description and end credits. Yes it is Geoff Achison on lead guitar. Video shot and my place and Toyland studios

      @@RJRKM Thanks, I will look at the credits to find out more. I’ve been collecting Geoff Achison’s albums, but he keeps releasing more and more of them faster than I can buy them.

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tmnl8037 Yes, Geoff Achison is a mighty player. I've been working with Geoff for well over 20 years now in The Souldiggers. Check him out here: www.geoffachison.com/

    Who is that old guy playing the peddle steel guitar? He’s very good at it.

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LoL That "old guy" along with the rest of us old guys is the fabulous Ed Bates. Once again the info is in the description and end credits.

    • @tmnl8037
      @tmnl8037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RJRKM I haven’t heard of him before, but he is good at it. He must be putting Kerryn Tolhurst out of work with playing that instrument. I thought Kerryn Tolhurst came back to live in Australia from America a while ago. He wrote some amazing songs over the years, including “All Fired Up” when he was on the Rattling Sabres, many of the best songs recorded by The Dingoes, and the song “Gypsy Queen”when he was in Country Radio with Greg Quill. I think he played on one of Dutch Tilders albums too many years ago.

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tmnl8037 Ed Bates has been in the business for a long time and a very respected Pedal Steel player. He was a guitar player in The Sports way back when..

    • @tmnl8037
      @tmnl8037 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RJRKM I didn’t buy many of the albums of The Sports to have known that, but he sounds very good. Not many people play Pedal Steel guitar. When I was fourteen years old I got to see the original Hawking Brothers band playing a live gig at Alexander’s Clothes store in Bridge Road, Richmond and about a year later their lead singer Russ Hawking passed away and his brother Alan Hawking took over. Since then Alan Hawking passed away too. They were a great band. I’ve got most of their albums. George Xanthos played Pedal Steel guitar in that band, but he too died in 2007.

  • @tmnl8037
    @tmnl8037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Has Mal Eastick left the band and replaced with Geoff Achison? What happened with Mal Eastick?

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Mal retired from the band a couple of months ago. He is concentrating on his own band

    • @tmnl8037
      @tmnl8037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RJRKM I think he is living far away interstate these days. I’ve got a couple of his solo albums. I think it was Mail that wrote the music of the Andrew Durant lyrics for the song “Ocean Deep”which was unfinished when Andrew passed away. Geoff Achison is by far the best lead guitarist there is. I’ve only seen videos of him playing, but I’ve been collecting his albums a while now. He used to be in Dutch Tilders band before. I only heard about him from you a few years ago, but I stopped going to live music venues a while back because of the Covid lockdowns. That’s not me in my profile photo. That’s a photo of Richard Clapton when he is 100 years old. He will not answer my emails since I made him look so old and is still upset at me.

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tmnl8037 yes correct on all counts. Unfortunately Mal does live way up in Yamba which makes it difficult to pull a gig together at the last minute at the same time I think he’s happy to concentrate on his own band at the moment. Yes he did help write Ocean Deep when Andy was on his death bed. No one could ever replace Mal Eastick in Stars, but Geoff is a wonderful replacement.

  • @tmnl8037
    @tmnl8037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mick Pealing’s voice is sounding better than ever. Where is the pianist? Maybe you better get Glenn Shorrock to play piano for the band or Brian Cadd.

    • @RJRKM
      @RJRKM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think we need keyboards we’re a guitar band.

    • @tmnl8037
      @tmnl8037 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RJRKM but there is a piano in the video and nobody is playing it. That’s why I suggested it might look good with someone like Glenn Shorrock or Brian Cadd playing it. I read Glenn Shorrock’s book and he was very upset when LRB decided to replace you, and he said you were his best mate back then.

      Mick's voice is EVERYTHING imo. Incredibly it hasn't changed or 'aged'. Bizarre hearing that genuine smooth rock country sound emanating out of this old grey man (still pleasant looking though😎)
