    Yes. I am occasionally asked how I keep my locs so thick and I say "leave them alone". Seeing your scalp all the time isn't all it's made out to be. Also I think the term "slaying your edges" sounds terrible like you are literally trying to kill them. Keep on "slaying" your hair and it WILL leave the abusive relationship.

    Great tips! Personally I retwist 3-4 times a year.

    One should also consider combining locs. The first time I loc'd my hair I parted them really small and as they grew (got longer and heavier) some of the locs became thin. Also some of them around the edges became thin due to manipulation so I would combine a thin loc with the one next to it so as it grew out, it became one thicker loc. I would highly recommend this to save locs also. Now that I've loc'd my hair for the 2nd time I only retwist my hair 4x a year. I wash my hair semi frequently but I do tie my locs down every night so that keeps the fuzziness to a minimum. I definitely don't do heavy styling and I pop/ separate my locs in order to keep them uniform.

    Amen!! I am asked all the time about mine. I retwist once a quarter. I'm going to go for 6 months this year with just braid outs. I hate fresh retwists.

    I agree that you shouldn't retwist your hair every chance you get, if your hair grows away from your locks I find that waiting a long time to retwist makes them appear thinner?

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Reyaunna Williams hmm I'm not sure what you mean

    • @AllIAm1
      @AllIAm1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Keisha Charmaine some people have hair around the loc that will not grow in the direction of the loc but grow away from it causing the root to thin...this happened to one of my locs near the back but I think it was breakage from not moisturizing properly (I had gone 3 months without retwisting at that point)

    • @KeishaCharmaine
      @KeishaCharmaine  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      at that point I suggest you braid those loose hairs into the loc before twisting. That may help those hairs stay in the loc

    • @ayeshiawyatt8654
      @ayeshiawyatt8654 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Reyaunna Williams this is my hair. It has gotten a lot better as they've matured though. The longest i can go without retwisting is 5 weeks. I have a looser curl pattern, and my roots marry quick. My locs are still uber thick though.

      how?

  • @kikidee32able
    @kikidee32able 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I get my hair interlocked twice a year and I do two strand twists when I think it’s getting a little messy but I love them not being over manicured. Less tension on the scalp

  • @monti42
    @monti42 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What do you recommend for people with hair that grows outside their locs? The longer I wait between retwists my roots become an Afro and my loc is just barely holding on. This is not for all my locs but definitely some locs in the front and crown.

    HELLO😀 I AM. 9 MONTHS LOCKED AND I HAVE BEEN RETWISTING. AND WASHING EVERY MONTH IN A HALF, DUE TO SOME OF MY LOCS ARE NOT YET LOCKED, SO UNTIL I AM FULLY LOCKED, I WILL GO LONGER ON RETWISTING AND CONTINUE TO WASH MONTHLY😁 HOPEFULLY BY THE FULL YEAR I WILL BE COMPLETLY LOCKED😌

    • @KeishaCharmaine

      retwisting helps it loc and stay uniformed in shape so keep that in mind. I wasn't full locked at 9months either, that's okay.

    I am on my 8th month mark of my locs started with mini two strand twist for thickness due to my thin fine weirdly mixed texture hair. I have to interlock every 4-5weeks or my hair grows out of itself. it hangs off of thr new growth. Is that ok with the frequency?

    Hi Keyshia,
    Hope you are well. I am 5 months in my loc journey, I started with 2 strand twist. I noticed my locs keep unraveling in the middle of the strands so it looks like it has a whole in the middle of some of my locs but the ends are intact. I am nervous because will it affect my locing in the long term? What do I do to fix this issue? I use a loctician

    How to thin locks? My hair is really dense and heavy (my hair is past my shoulder and each loc is a bit smaller than pencil size) and I feel I can't even do a bun it's so thick. I don't know if I should restart locs and do sister locs.. will that help? Idk.

    • @KeishaCharmaine

    Does anyone else experience scalp tenderness after 8 weeks into the semi free form phase? I try to go 3-4 months between maintenance but oh man. They are pencil size, not thick but past bra length so not sure if it’s weight. Any essential oils that soothe tenderness? Any suggestions are appreciated.

    • @NekolMaree
      @NekolMaree 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tryn2bereal I find fenugreek oil helps with irritation and inflammation. Look for fenugreek oil for hair recipes.

    • @cocomint26
      @cocomint26 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tryn2bereal I also experience tenderness by the 8th week mark! That’s the longest I can go without retwisting. The only thing that eases this feeling is to wash every three weeks with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner as well as massaging the scalp every few days with oils to separate the new growth.
