@@duelist1954 I'm not gonna lie, I originally started looking into cap and ball revolvers because I found out I can carry them in my state at 19 years old until I turn 21, when I'll be able to carry a modern handgun with a license. I stumbled upon your channel when I was looking for the best option for a self defense cap and ball revolver, and after I bought my .36 caliber 1851 Navy and .44 caliber 1860 Army, I've watched more and more of your videos. I'm now a huge fan of black powder guns and I thoroughly enjoy them. I have a new hobby I'm passionate about, thanks to you lol.

It is interesting to think that these pistols have had more active use, and for many more years than the originals would have had, most originals were probably retired after 20 years of use, and here we are shooting then actively after 50 years as I am.
@@71simonforrester Hello Simon, I no longer live in the UK, but there should be no problem if you join the Muzzle Loaders Association of GB, They will point you in the right direction to a local club and with your membership you should be OK, there are club ranges all over UK. Good luck!
I'm a felon who cannot truly own a legit ' legal ' firearm considering I'm a free man and have been since 11/06/06; and the second Amendment pretty much etches in stone my right to bare arms no matter what

@@jonathangriffiths2499 doubtful. Many level 3 misdemeanors will keep someone from EVER owning any firearm that uses smokeless powder. 2A infringements are unConstitutional.

It is legal in many states (and Federal law) to own a percussion gun without any restrictions, as they are considered "antiques and curios" instead of firearms. However, if loaded it can be considered a firearm with the same use restrictions as a cartridge gun. It is not loaded if the caps are off.
good for you man. wars were fought with these guns, they aren't bb guns. all it takes is one shot.

One of the things I did to my Uberti revolvers was to fix the Uberti short arbor. Pietta gets the arbor right, but Uberti still makes their revolvers with short arbors. Do you fix your Uberti arbors?

I am slowly gathering a collection but it's a lot more effort in the UK as we have to justify each one with a reason - beyond just 'because they're beautiful and I want one.'

I only have four, but I love to take them to the range, and often. I shoot more cap and ball than I do cartridge. Mike's videos got me started. I have the 1847 Colt Walker, 1851 Navy (.36), 1858 New Army, and 1860 Army. Don't tell my other guns, but my favorite is that 1858 Remington. But I love them all.

Very nice collection. Thank you for sharing. I have two now, both steal frame Piettas, 1860 Army and 1851 Navy in .44 Cal. And it is Christmas morning, Merry Christmas. We are going shooting this Christmas morning.
I now added 1858 Pietta Remington New Model Army. I'm looking forward to shooting it. Thank you for sharing your cap n ball revolvers

Never shot a cap and ball revolver in my life. After watching Mike's videos, I decided to get into it. Now I've got an 1858 Remington and the 1860 Colt. I really enjoy them. Mike taught me how to load, shoot, and clean these revolvers. I've taken my sons shooting with me, and now they are hooked. Thanks for bringing these to us and showing us the hobby.

Some beautiful revolvers. I have had a Ruger Old Army in stainless since around '84 or '85. I put 9 Lbs. of Pyrodex through it the first couple years I had it. I don't know how many rounds it has fired altogether but a lot. It is still tight and the trigger is oh-so-wonderful.
I need some Colts and Remingtons.

I think that the Starr revolvers are very under appreciated...I think they are a better platform than the colt and most definitely have a stronger frame
Yes. They have a better frame, but they are not as ergonomic. The originals had a tendency to chain fire because the nipples are more exposed than Remingtons or Colts

Nice collection you have there, what would be interesting is if you made a video of if you lived in the 1850-1870 time period which of your Cap & Ball revolvers would you keep if you could only keep two. (I know, tough choice)

My first cap and ball anything was a Pietta LeMat (which is probably one of the worst to start with) but this man assisted greatly in the process of getting what I need and for that I have this channel saved

Old Army Rugers are very good, too bad they don't make them no more, so I heard.

thank you for making this video. i find it hard with many of the cap and ball revolvers to pick them out as many have an over all simular look and geting all these designs in one place has helped me out a bunch

Just got my 2nd Remington a 5 1/2" along w/my 8" first, I have 3 extra cylinders, Have a 6x Lee conical mold and a 2x Johnson&Dow mold, Have a dual canister rock polisher : I make BP with willow.Got a corning press.

I don't have any cap and ball revolvers........at this precise time. I have one coming to me, probably the end of next week. One of those "fantasy guns", I'm sure.....an 1851 Colt navy Snub Nose 44Cal., made by Pietta, imported by Taylors. I only purchased it because I really like how it looks. I doubt I'll actually ever shoot black powder and ball out of it.

Those leaf sights on the dragoon are actually historically correct.Colt outfitted some of those guns with those sights for use with the detachable buttstock.
This reason is why I changed to the Ruger old army in the full frame. Never had a cap jam in that pistol.

Hi Mike, Since you included a couple of the "fantasy" '51 .44s. I was a bit surprised you didn't have an 1873 SAA percussion model from Pietta or Uberti...I have one on order from EMF and I'm waiting (somewhat patiently!) for them to come off back order. Great collection!
This is the first time outside the US Army I have seen the word " ogive " used in a sentence.
The " Ogive " we had was at the very end of the non nuclear warhead we used with out Lance Missiles.
It was a metal aerodynamic cover at the nose of the warhead under which was the controls we would use to
make the settings on the warhead section for ground burst or air burst.
We pronounced it " Oh-Jive " though haha.
( Takes " Use ogive in a sentence " off his bucket list )
hopefully one day they will have more reproductions of double action cap and ball revolver like the adams revolver that you could show us in videos like this in the future
Thanks for another good video. I've only had a cap-and-ball revolver (Uberti 1858) for a short time, but I love mine. I hope to get an 1860 model from Uberti. Beyond those two, I might look for a Walker at some point, I don't feel a need to collect a bunch of them. I just enjoy shooting them.

my great great great great uncle served in the civil war and I have just inherited his original 1858 Remington revolver along with his sword, scabbard, belt, and buckle. If you know of anyone who has any knowledge on civil war swords, would you mind letting me know? I have been searching around but I cant find anything about the model of sword.

Never ever sale your cap n ball revolvers, over time buying them you will end up with a very nice collection. I'm following your advice on not selling only buying. Thank you
i have a 1851 .44 confederate navy that belonged to my father. It has had well over 500 rounds put through it and still works great. It has developed a little play, and the finish is wearing away, but that's to be expected with a 30 year old gun. Its dead on, 1 inch groups at 15 yards. These black powders got me hooked on single action revolvers at a young age. I love them to death. I use a .454 round ball with a greased wad, and 30 grains of FFF. Unlike a lot of people, i have never had issues with cap jamming, or the ram rod falling while firing. I guess i got lucky.
In all my years of shooting these cap and ball revolvers, ive heard a thousand sob stories of all the problems people have with their pistols, i guess when it comes to $300 bargain bin knock offs at your local department store, you get what you pay for!
No way to get accurate numbers, but I'll speculate the total number of brass frame replicas sold outnumber the steel frames .
Don't feel bad Mike, I have that many and never wrote an article. ;) There's nothing like handling them to see how they developed over time.

I too have an ASM Walker decades old and an Uberti Walker just acquired this year. It would be nice to get a horse to carry the three of us. Me and two pistols.
If you ever hurt your leg you can use that long barreled one as a crutch. Those may be replicas but you’ve got some serious $ in revolvers there. I’m jealous.
After getting my 50 cal CVA rifle I was wanting a pistol to go with it I passed on a Patterson but got a Uberti 36cal 1862 police thanks to you I've learned a lot watching your videos over and over but now I need to know how to remove scratches and to re-blue maybe a video would help "hint hint "

Nice collection. I note you rarely have anything negative to say about Uberti. Would you generally choose Uberti, or are they all about the same.
Uberti has better geometry and generally better quality.

duelist1954 the only Uberti problem I heard of are the short arbor problems.
I'm kinda comparing apples to oranges, but my Pietta 1860 colt army is a pain to remove because of the short arbor, but the Uberti 1849 colt pocket fits like a glove

Mike, You have done so much to educate me and guide my purchases. I bought a Uberti Walker 44 cal, a Uberti 1851 Navy 36 cal, and plan to buy a Uberti 1860 Army 44 cal. Rilfles I bought a Traditions Hawken 50 cal at a gun store used for just 199.99 ! and I love it. Today I ordered a Traditions Kentucky Flint Lock 50 Cal, found online for 398.00 The one i am trying to decide about next is a SA colt replica that I can shoot 45LC and 45 LC black powder cartridges. I see Traditions has these a a very low price. Would you buy a Traditions, or should i stick to a Uberti or Pietta? Thanks for all the education Mike.

Great video Mike! Have to say I was quite surprised to see you stop at the horse pistols! You don’t have a 1862 police model in your stable? I absolutely love my Uberti 1862 police with 6” bbl. it is a great gun. I have put wire trigger/bolt springs on most of my pistols, wow how smooth it makes them. Have you done that to yours? I hope you can keep “evil Roy” at bay for May years to come!

Hi Mike I have watched your videos and enjoy them. Weather you know it or not you helped me decide on an 1858 new army Pietta 44 C&B revolver. Got the Taylor's 45 long colt cylinder as well. I love this gun. Was wondering if you have a video on lessening the main spring strength as the pull back on the hammer is a bit of a beast. I did see a video of a fellow rounding the back sides of a main spring to lighten the yank back but was not sure if that was not a yahoo way to go. I certainly made sense to me but I am not a gun smith and you are. Love your work by the way. Do you think you could help me out. I am very capable of following instructions. Been and artist and a hammer swinger for years. Would really appreciate some input. Thank you Josey
