After the election I was angry and feeling hopeless. Then I started writing this song and my hope returned. No matter what side of the aisle you are on, we are all in this together.

Things didn’t work out quite like I expected
And everything that I held dear seems to be rejected
And I don’t understand, but I’m really trying
To figure out why so many were OK with the lying.
Shining city up on a hill. Patriotic words spoken.
Now we’ve swallowed down the red pill. And we can see how it’s broken.
Built on the backs of stolen land and stolen labor
How did we imagine that we ever had God’s favor?
Purple mountains majesty, a land of liberty
Poisoned and plundered from sea to plastic filled sea.

I remember when we were taught that everyone is our brother

But it seems that those ideals are not as strong as greed
And billionaires now hoard away more than they’ll ever need
And lawmakers all gladly line their pockets without shame
And play with all our lives because we’re just pawns in their game.
