I especially love it when Bert Parks says to each new Miss America "this is now YOUR song".

I fondly remember my mom and sis watching these throughout the 1960's/70's as they diligently and excitedly followed the contest with pencils and notepads. I secretly enjoyed the whole thing. It was LIVE and IN COLOR and exciting.

"She took the town by storm with her all-American face and form" - truer words were never spoken. Judi Ford the epitome of Miss America in every way. The pride of Belvidere, IL - she's a beauty!

Judy Ford Miss America 1969. From my hometown. I had her as a substitute teacher a few times when I was in elementary school. Her mom and dad were friends with my maternal grandparents too.

@@kathryneast6919 please wish her well! I am from MA and remember being thrilled that she came so close to winning. I had a close college friend who was Miss MA 1978-79 and got to attend the pageant, which was sort of a dream come true. I hope Ms. Monroe has had a happy and fulfilling life. I will always remember being captivated by her.

That's debatable they were both gorgeous I think she lost because her answer was good but when she said love for everyone that might have been a little too over the top and maybe too hippie sounding for the judges I thought she was going to win I think that the winner was even surprised
