- One of the best items of footwear for the summer are loafers! I personally am a huge fan of tassel loafers and how they elevate a particular outfit. Today's video is all about comparing two entry level loafers. The G.H. Bass Weejun 90s Kilt Tassel Loafers and the Dr. Martens Adrian Loafers. This is my 1 year later review.

as much as I loved them I sold my Adrians after only 4/5 wears because of the excruciating pain I had to suffer walking in them, my feet would literally start bleeding after 20 minutes.. after this video I think I'm gonna buy a pair of penny loafers from gh bass since I think they'd be perfect for the summer.

I got the Weejuns in my true size and I've worn them for probably 150-200 hours in total while walking a lot so they are worn in but they still hurt my feet after 1-2 hours of wear, the top part of the heel also got a tiny crack on both shoes after just a week of wear which probably indicates that they are a bit too small. I got wide feet, so if you have wide feet and are usually inbetween sizes I would probably size up one. (Just some info for anyone in the comments that have wide feet and are stuck on which size to get)
I had this issue with polished leather Larsons. I gave up on them. But recently I bought suede Larsons and they are joy to my feet, the most comfy loafers I ever had. Try suede - by the way I have wide feet too, and I think the suede just stretches to handle them in a way the polished leather cant

Docs also aren’t created with a shank! so there’s less foot support. if you like the look of them, the solovair version of adrians are still made with a traditional shank. great vid drew
would you recommend the Solovairs for comfort then?
I have the Adrians and I think they’re great, a bit stiff at first, but my slim feet really fit the shoe. I think the Adrians fit people with fairly narrow feet perfectly and if you’re like me you shouldn’t feel any weird aches. I wore them for almost 15 hours straight one day and had no pains whatsoever
Totally agree I have wider feet and had to upsize to get the Adrians right, which isn't optimal

Yes I agree. At first i have hesitation to buy Adrians, reading the reviews that it's heavy, a little heavier, etc.... but I have a narrow, slim feet. I finally decided to buy a pair (go size down) and at perfectly fits...breathable enough. I never had foot pain, blister or whatsoever.
For people looking for Adrian loafers : Solovair (the original Dr. Martens maker ) just dropped new loafers exactly looking like the one from Dr. Martens but Solovair is made in England, leather is better and there is more sizing options available. Highly recommend

Agreed! I switched to Solovair last December (watched so many comparison videos,) great quality, fit, look, and seem to last longer!! Also, hopefully better pay for those who are making it.

Can we get a sock video? What socks were you wearing, I've been starting to get into nicer socks and not using tube nike socks all the time anymore, so were should I look? I bought a ton of socks at Uniqlo in London since we don't have Uniqlo and they dont ship to Norway:(

Uniqlo socks are my favourites. The oldest pair I have is 7(!) years old, and they have no signs of wear and tear at all. I love the quality, and I only buy socks from Uniqlo. It’s also a huge plus that they are plain and have no logo on them. I can’t recommend them enough.
Bombas is good
I like bombas but they might be a bit overrated.

I personally can't talk about the Weejun loafers because I don't own them, however I own the Adrian Loafers and I love them! I personally like the wider silhouette and it personally fits my foot perfect. I love your videos Drew, keep them coming!
Would you say the fit of the adrian loafers is similar to the fit of the Dr Marten derbies in the heel area?
Did you size down from what you normally wear in other shoes for the Doc Martens?
As mentioned in the comments, Solovair > Docs. They even offer a factory visit north of London if you're into that, plus their support is awesome. Sorry for fanboying lol

As a US 9.5, i got the Adrian loafers in a US 8 and they fit very comfortably for hours, despite also having a narrow foot.
Same, also a 9.5 and an 8 fits perfect
same my docs are comfortable to me, maybe he just needs a different size

Michael Jackson wore GH Bass loafers also Florsheim. He was able to buy any shoe in the world so….must say something about those brands. Affordable too.

I was just thinking about getting some loafers and just rewatched your vid aswell
it's because Dr. Martens shoes are not made with shanks. if a shoe has a heel, it needs a shank. it'll mess with your heel and arch to not have a shank in a heeled shoe, it's necessary for support. Dr. Martens are just poor quality shoes, Solovairs are much better versions of basically the same models, higher quality materials throughout + improved construction level for similar pricing

Tbh I love them and have been wearing them for multiple years. You’ll only notice the difference with solovairs if you work in a more rough environment several hours a day.
I’m stuck between either the G. H. or the Solovair tassel that Tyler the Creator uses. Maybe that OG quality is gonna make up for the lack of feel that the Martens bring? What would you prefer? Maybe you should do a trifecta battle between all 3 ;)

I'd definitely suggest going for Solovair, great brand and quality; their customer service is also on point. Have a few Made in England Docs but now converted to Solovair - quality s so much better. Try them and you won't regret! 👍
I've got a pair of black Rockport Shakespeare loafers and has its own comfy adiprene insole in it.. great affordable alternative for adrian & gh bass weehjuns.. authentic classic loafer look with an inside modern tech support, better check em out, pure underrated stuff 💯
For comfort use a pair of good strong shoe trees to stretch/ widen the shoe a little more. I left my shoe tree in my Dr. Martens for a little more than a week and comfort has improved a lot. Your mileage may vary. Have fun!😅

I think it’s your foot shape I have a wide foot and just got mine today it is the most comfortable sole very bounce like the yeezy foam runner I would suggest putting a wooden shoe tree inside the Adrian loafers
I got the docs in and immediately knew it was a bad shoe. The material felt like hard plastic was uncomfortable even trying to slip them on. Sent them back fast

I have the adrian loafers and the sizing is god awful. The size 7 fit way too tight and the size 8 is big so they are always sliding around even with the tongue pads. I got the bigger size and just got used to it. I am def copping a pair of the GH Bass loafers.

I reget buying the Adrians. The fit is horrendous, to say the least. I looked at the reviews, and many mentioned that I should size it down a full size because they run large. I did that and it still is large on the width, the left size larger than the right. Every time I take a step, the slip off. I bought some patting for the heal, and the helped, but it still uncomfortable. I can't wear them.

I’ve been looking at the Adrian’s a lot but can never find them. Do you think the Made in UK variant would be better than the stock model in terms of comfort since it uses better materials and softer leather?
look at solovair's options if youre willing to drop money for any docs made in UK shoes; theyre made in the original factory as docs in the same ways that gave them their old reputation of being long lasting, but you do lose the iconic yellow stitching for grey stitches. i guess you could paint them if it matters to you that much. Also look into other "kiltie" loafers if you want to really expand ur options.
I’m a US 8.5 and picked up the G.H. Bass Weejun II Larkin Moc Tassel in a US 8. Waaaay to narrow and stiff. Couldn’t wear them for 5 minutes.

Umm I definitely can, they are much more broken in now. You can definitely slip into them

merino wool socks. rotate your all leather shoes, rest 1 day inbetween wears. a little bit of gold bond powder before putting on your socks to reduce odor, sweat, etc. GL

All Doc Martens are uncomfortable. I had a pair that didn’t hurt to wear and couldn’t stand wearing them past 4 hours. Yeah, it’s an iconic brand but I stopped wearing them over 20 years ago. GH Bass on the other hand, hard to break in but at least they’re worth it when you do. Great shoes.

the adrian loafers are kinda unwearable. i tried my true size and my foot was slippin all over the place in it, i tried a size down and it was too small. what you're talking about comfort-wise in the video just sounds like it's too small. but no one can wear their true size cause your foot barely stays in it. make half sizes, docs.

LOL @ people thinking the thick Doc Marten leather is "better" or more "quality" than GH Bass or anybody else's leather. Most of the additional thickness is from plastic and paint, not from cow.

I am a size 12 and I got size 12 GH Bass loafers and they fit so big. Does anyone know what I should do? I already wore them, the bottom got scrapped in one day of wearing so I doubt they’ll take them back
