Section 498A of IPC Explained
Section 498-A is an offence under the Indian Penal Code, 1860. It was brought into the IPC in 1983 to stop cruelty to married women because of dowry. This often led to their deaths. It makes it a crime to be cruel to your wife or to your relative's wife.
Misuse of Section 498a IPC
Misuse of Section 498a IPC has been a big concern over the past two decades when a girl is not satisfied in a marriage for any reason & needs a divorce, she ends up filing a case against husband & his family and involves relatives as well at times and puts a section of 498a IPC to claim maximum compensation amount. Misuse of Section 498a IPC leads to unnecessary distress among husband & his family.
