  • @rpstephans
    @rpstephans ปีที่แล้ว +193

    To be a superstar, you have to be elite and consistent offensively. Obviously defense matters and while Jimmy is an elite defender, he's an inconsistent offensive player. Putting up crazy offensive numbers puts you into the superstar category. I would consider him a star, above an all-star but not quite a superstar. Guys like Jaylen Brown, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, Chris Paul, etc. for example would be in the same category because they don't put up numbers but can have a huge impact on the game. However, offense is more valuable than defense in today's game.

For context how bad that is, Westbrook's true shooting in regular season was 51.3%, Harden's TS% this postseason was 54%. He was sensational in first round, with 67% TS%. But after that he was terrible, under the standard of a regular star, not to mention a superstar.
      Jimmy plays defense I get it but as first scoring option he was literally giving Heat negative production being that inefficient, in fact almost the least efficient among all players. Jimmy carried the Heat in first round, and then he was the one being carried vs Celtics.

    Jimmy Butler is a lower bound player whereas Tatum and Booker are upper bound players. Sports analysis always lean towards upper bound players because they sell dreams, but they always forget that dreams are unstable. What Lebron, Jokic and Steph have in common is they cover both ends of the boundary. If we really think about it, Jimmy Butler is definitely equal to Tatum and Booker. He can still score 50+ if the game requires him to do it, but he is not going to do it game after game. He can guarantee you a 20+ with a decent chemistry and a solid defense. Tatum and Booker have crazy scores much more regularly, but they can be completely invisible at times. It's as if they sabotaged the team with their nonexistent plays.

    If ur scoring game requires you to make a ton of free throws to get to 30 points you are not a superstar. Idc how good you are on defense, there’s a reason Jaren Jackson Jr is not a superstar and Luka Doncic is. Jimmy butler when he doesn’t get bailed out by the refs can barely average 20 ppg. And not one single time since the bucks series did he put this team on his back and take them to the finish line. These are the superstars in my mind. Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antentokounpo, Jayson Tatum, Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, Damian Lillard, Joel Embiid, and imo Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Those are the NBA’s superstars. Jimmy Butler is a star and a great player, but he was not good this postseason since the bucks series. He wasn’t the best player in the Knicks series (Jalen Brunson), the Celtics series (Jayson Tatum), or in the Nuggets series (Nikola Jokic). I’m gonna ask y’all a question, and if you decide to respond to this comment I ask you to rly ask yourself. What has Jimmy Butler accomplished without Erik Spolestra? He had many talented teams in Chicago, didn’t do anything. He had a very talented team in Minnesota, but there he couldn’t be a leader and teach KAT and Wiggins how to be professionals. In Philly, he had his most talented team, couldn’t get out of the 2nd round. And now in Miami you expect me to believe that Jimmy butler is carrying these lesser talented teams?! No he wasn’t, Eric Spolestra was winning 40+ games with Goran Dragic as the best player. Jimmy butler is not the reason the heat are good, Eric Spolestra is!

      Leading a team to a finals is important and noteworthy, but in the case of Jimmy he has done it because he meshes well with the overall team. He does not have standout performances on a consistent basis as some of the other superstars. I think he leads a team that meshes well and does so in a good way but not a "great" way.
      When I think of superstar, I think of someone that would skew the balance of the force. Like when Lebron left Cleveland that literally changed the fate of the NBA. When Durant left OKC, that literally changed the fate of the NBA. I don't think that if Jimmy goes to another team, the NBA would change. He is good... but just not great yet.

      You did not watch the series then. Caleb Martin beat us. After game 2, the celtics stopped buying Jimmy's pump fakes, and he was no where to be seen. Also Tatum was cooking Jimmy everytime he was matched up on him. Jimmy was calling for picks every time Tatum was defending him. If you think Jimmy is better than Tatum then you don't know ball 🤷‍♂️.

    I agree that this isn't the start of a dynasty. I feel like a few teams in the west need a few tweaks and they'd be better than the Nuggets. I think the Lakers with shooters on the roster is better than the Nuggets. The Suns with actual depth would be better than the Nuggets. In the east, I still think the Celtics as is are better than the Nuggets, and I think the Sixers as is even with Harden are better if not just as good as the Nuggets, even the Bucks with some tweaks and a fully recovered Middleton are better if not just as good as the Nuggets. But they will continue to be contenders.

    Winning will always validate a man’s greatness. Sadly a lot of great players are often diminished because they haven’t won a ring. Jimmy might be a player who will suffer from this. Is Jimmy an all star ? Yes is he better than the aforementioned I would take Jimmy over dame and Tatum. Both player btw are more talented,but there are clear intangibles. Winning intangibles. He won’t overwhelm you with his talent but his tenacity. Hard to really value guys like that. It’s the same thing with draymond.Draymond probably wouldn’t be good outside of golden state but you see his value and he doesn’t score much. Defends at high level. Jimmy is a great player. He’s the definition of the under dog.

    Mad Dog is being silly to say he'd take Booker over Butler is a series for his life. Booker is 0-3 in elimination games in his career shooting a combined 15-49 in those games. Intangibles aren't everything but they do count.
    Monica is right, Butler might not be on the same level as the absolute very best players, but you can't definitely say that guys like Booker or Lillard are better than him when he has done more with the same or less

    What Dog is missing is that Denver is still very young. Porter is 24 and has a high ceiling. Braun is a rookie and made a serious impact in the finals. That team can get better.

      Bro stop it a lot of stars could have beaten a Giannis injured bucks team a knicks team that pretty much loses Randle due to pouting cause he sucks and a low iq Boston team lakers and suns would have beaten Miami in 6 easily this year plenty of stats could have went to the finals with that road he had

    • @OEx25
      @OEx25 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Round 1: Bucks missing Giannis for 2.5 games with a completely incompetent coach
      Round 2: Knicks.. who are just not a good basketball team (Jimmy shot 43% and 11% from 3)
      Round 3: Celtics who showed in every round how weak they were mentally with a completely incompetent coach (Jimmy shot 42% and 35% from 3)
      Round 4: Lost in 5 games while Jimmy shot 41% and 37% (decent) from 3.
      Heat had to execute and absolutely did their job, but they did it largely as a team with the best coach in the NBA leading the way. Jimmy was a superstar for 1 series and a very good player after that. Shouldn't have even won Eastern Conference Finals MVP, in my opinion.

    People act like its an insult when someone say hes a star but not a superstar lol chill out. For me hes the type of player to be the second best on the team with a really great primary star player. Like for example if the Heat would add Lillard he would be great as that second option.
