I’ve rewatched this video like 6 times as a great quick reference and the way Casmo says “ONE - it’s a video game” still cracks me up every single time
It's been a very nice and polished series this, dude. Very concise, no waffle. As you say, it's all about putting warheads on foreheads as easily as possible. No convoluted nonsense.
I remember a 10percent true podcast featuring Mudhen WSO "Starbaby," where he was explaining finding and prosecuting targets using the AG radar mode. It's really bad ass and will be a fun addition to the game. Thanks for teaching/entertaining us, Casmo.
Quick and dirty is a good choice for some videos to get people flying and having some fun. In-depth will follow pretty naturally once the fun kicks in.
air to ground radar is fun in the F/A-18, looks like the Mudhen will be even better. One of my favourite things to do with the radar in the F/A-18 is dropping dumb bombs through overcast using auto mode. the expand modes can get you a really good picture of the target if you use them correctly, and it's loads of fun to splatter MR SAM units from above the clouds.

That arrow thingie looks useful as a final attack bearing. P.S. You could see closer to you by changing the antenna elevation, to have the radar point downward. But as mentioned by Baltic Dragon. This is rarely used.
Subbed! Your video got straight to the point. I’ve been beating around the bush learning the f15e a/g and today I took the time and I’m happy like a little kid about it. Thanks for the vid!

Is it possible with the smrt wep page open to plug in cords for each armament individually using the ag radar like you can with the tgp or manually entering cords? Would i just designat then press the xfer button?
I still haven’t used the A/G Radar even once since release lol. I never used it in the F/A-18 because I didn’t feel like learning how to pick out what “might” be vehicles in that sea of green. So didn’t even bother once in the MudHen. I know it has a HRM mode, but haven’t bothered with it. With being able to set up points for the TPOD to look at, or just using the velocity vector to point the TPOD, the radar as been pointless to me so far. Maybe as more people create missions for the vehicle, and they include sections where it would be useful, I’ll start learning it.
Not to mention that Auto doesn’t work for me. I’m one of those people that has the “bug” of Auto dropping bombs long every time, and the TPOD not guiding in GBU.
so I set up the hotas, and as the wiz i cant seem to get soi except on one mfd and well not sure if im expecting thing to work in the back that dont work yet
Is it just me or is Air to Ground Radar so cool. And then to have it modeled in a sim. Yeah, I know it is not so magic and isn't really sending waves over the virtual landscape, but still...
Heatblur said their F-4 will have a proper simulated radar, I’m guessing effectively raytraced. Obviously it’s always an approximation but as you say even this here is already super cool.
@@henrikoldcorn Razbam also has a "new" guy in charge of the radars for a while, and they're doing very proper simulation too. One of the coolest things for me was being able to spot individual civilian cars moving on the high resolution maps. Both that I could notice the spots moving on the roads, and that they are picked up by the radar in the first place. ED's ground moving target modes completely ignore the civvies.
It is VERY cool! An incredible amount of effort by Hughes and McAir went into the development of that radar. It was amazing to see the progress made during flight test in F-15B #2. The improvement in imagery and then linking it to Pave Tack (at the time) and the weapons delivery system was very cool. I witnessed a “shack” on a military tank target with a dumb BDU-33 delivered at 500 ft and 500 kts. using the radar and Pave Tack. It was impressive.
So are GPS bombs just not currently planned? I feel like using radar as a map to send highly detailed mark/tgt points(through cloud coverage) would be a perfect way to designate a whole bunch of juicy stand-off GPS points....but I don't remember seeing a single GPS bomb in the loadout.
@@sasquatch98 Roger, that's fine then but I didn't even see them announced when I went to look it up I thought maybe somehow the Eagle didn't carry them, which of course would be silly
No F15 RADAR System will transmit on the ground as there is an interconnect that requires that the Weight-Off-Wheels/Weight-On-Wheels (WOW) signal to the APG Central Processor Informs it that the aircraft has left the ground.
With a modern processor, i9-13900K, what settings should I be using for the number of cores? 6 is what I think I have set right now, have been seeing stuttering with the HRM.
I will say this might sound stupid but It’s possible lowering the core count could help just to distribute the weight on a few cores rather than have to balance and equal it over 6
You need to double check your guy on the editing deck. He sounds like he is in copyright violation of your voice. Your video’s are great because you lay it out in simple language and little smart comments. It’s more relaxed since you clearly state it’s a computer simulator and no ground crews testicles are getting cooked.
I do hope that ED would eventually add the proper ground crew for the ground bases, not just a carrier. And that they would really be animated and properly doing the ground repairs and re-arming, as well welcome and send you away, and get angry when you activate your radar emissions.... Sending you to court martial for it. That is something I love in those early 90's sims, that they took things seriously and not with attitude "Hey, it is a video game!". If you did not obey the commands and procedures, your virtual pilot was sent to prison or court martial. You had the nice explanation of your irresponsible behavior and failures and dishonor to your squadron etc.
The Synthetic Aperture Radar can only generate High Resolution Maps off of the direction of the aircraft. Off angle, the antenna is “dragged” along creating the large synthetic aperture allowing HRM generation. Note the “4.7” on the lower part of the radar display. This indicates a 4.7 mile (on a side) square HRM. As one approaches the target area, they can step down to the smaller maps (3.3, 1.3, 0.67) with increased resolution of the target area, depending on range.
You did read the part about it being a preorder, right? It even said it might take multiple months to be released from that point in like the second sentence of the preorder description..

Indeed, that episode were an F-15E takes down an SA3 with a GBU-10, while F-16s keep it off by shooting HARM missiles in RUK mode.
You can adjust the radar elevation for the AG radar in RBM to better cover the ground at high alt and short ranges.
Good point
