Great to see this, I love my canal systems. A lot are forgotten about yet hold some awesome fishing spots. It would be great to see more volunteers do this on a regular basis and clean their canals.
great video Tom, I used to fish the Plumpers stretch at lunchtime with a 4m whip I kept in the back of the van. its got me thinking to get back on and do a bit of lure fishing on there. its a lovely stretch of water between Tinsley and the city centre. I spotted a familiar name in Mick Dawson on the sheets, still use his tackle shop at Hillsborough.
After the first minute, I gave this a like, loved every minute, and it brought back good memories of canal fishing, especially seeing the winning weights. People forget that the purpose of a match is to catch more than the other guys, that's all, and the weight doesn't matter, as long you have more! So, for me, a commercial fishery is a boring place to be, that requires physical strength and stamina to haul out those over sized, over fed, fat fish, with the reliance of having the right "mix" of bait, and exceptionally expensive equipment just to compete.
I grew up fishing the sheffield canal mainly the old bsc stretch and basins, had some really good days and good weights, i also believe that canal fishing will come back strong, sooner the better.
Same as the South Yorkshire Canal at Kilnhurst and Mexborough belonging to Kilnhurst & District AA. A total of 150 pegs that are hardly ever fished looking at the length of the grass although the stretch opposite Mexborough Church had been cut when I fished there last week.
I love canals. But there are no canal matches for around 30 miles from my house. It’s a real shame about the negative stigma attached to canals but there is for commercials. One day rivers and canal will come back strong.
what a poignant video....real nice gentleman on the video....must have had great memories of the good old days you could see it in is eyes reliving the past.....i bet they had some great matches and some great laughs after the matches ended.....imagine strippers at tunnel barn farm......i bet they would get through the weigh-ins super fast.....great video really enjoyed it
What are we lucky in the Netherlands? we still happily fish all competitions in channels. commercial fishing is luckely still far from us. I live in the north of the country. Where many of these beautiful channels are. and plenty in fish.

Still kicking, some big carp in there from the city centre up to the first basin, ive spotted plenty, im a predator fisherman tho, and ive had a thew good size pike out, some days its on some days its not, plenty of rud tho...would love this canal to return to the days the people are talking about......
I've fished the canal for 30 + years and never had any trouble or had the car touched. Usual regular cyclists and people from flats in town use it for running. I know most people either by face or name 👍
anybody still fish crooks valley park near children's hospital about 30 year ago since i last fished there some lovely 2lb roach and carp in double figer and tench if you got one about 7-9lb good old days
this is the second one of these videos I have seen the other was ruondhay park and I think bloodworm was to blame for the death of these once grate fishery's
Sheffield canal, I've fished this for 50 years ,until I was paralysed from the waist down, after two years I started to walk again but still unstable with my balance, I purchased a Wanderers permit to fish but to my dismay canal & River trust plus Sheffield city council do absolutely nothing for the Disabled Anglers with no axess to fish or having to walk a distance which disabled Anglers like me can't do, ime so disappointed with this, why the hell don't these services do something about this because they definitely can they can make the five weirs walk & canal walk that is disruption for Anglers, but they( city councils Sheffield & Rothrem) won't take their Barriers down in places where the disabled angler can park & fish I know of two venues where you can well they can absolutely make this happen but they are so ignorant to these places and this is a plain fact. If any of the Sheffield city orRotherham or Canal & River Trust see this text please please contact me in desperation of Anglers & listen to my knowledge I will share with them, but ignorance is bliss, because I've done my best before & regulary get no response. If there is someone out there understands & knows how hard my plight is please respond with you're answer to this, Thank you😢
This has the making of a belting series.

Great video! Still love my canals. Always were my favourite venues to match fish, and do a lot of pleasure angling on the GUC these days.
Superb .. It like that all over the country.. good days

Brilliant video, I used to love the Sheffield canal but you hardly see a sole on there now, not sure if the same head of fish is still in.
I fish this canal regularly it’s got some lovely fish in there all good size and species 👍
Weres the best spot for big pike on the Sheffield canal?
There are some big lads in the basins at Tinsley.

Pro trick : you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching all kinds of movies recently.
@Joziah Keanu yup, have been using Flixzone for since november myself :D
Our local canal matches went downhill when the cycling got more popular, however. Its seem to be getting decent turnouts once again.

The canal and rivers trust should do more for canal anglers clubs pay enough in rent but anglers are an afterthought

Always fancied fishing the Sheffield Canal, who has the fishing rights to it? Or is it free fishing??
Free fishing along much of the length now David.
The carp ruined the canal
Why?
