My mom used to make this when I was a kid, she called it 24 hour salad. (Made the night before and the dressing sat on top) Many memories from picnics and 4th of July parties. Fond memories ! I remember her green bowl with the lid, she loved that bowl. Lol

I love salads! I go healthy by adding fruit slices (strawberries, blueberries, apples, grapes, etc) but this looks good too (for a guilty snack 😂) One negative, NEVER salt your lettuce (or any high water content veggie) it turns soggy!

Are they still bacon "bits" if you make them rain like that? That was a veritable hailstorm of dried pork! They are supposed to be just a garnish, but you've got enough there to perhaps add a gingerbread man or two making bacon snow angels on top.

Yum! I make mine a little different to allow for dietary requirements. Always a beautiful presentation. I invested in some glass containers with sturdy lids and do this on an assembly line scale so I have one a day for a week and my own homemade salad dressing to be served on the side. A wonderful, easy to customize salad! Thank for sharing! Much love! ❤️
One of my favorite salads. We do it in just a 9 x 13 and leave the tomatoes out. The topping is just mayonnaise and sugar with cheese sprinkled on top. Yum!!
The salad looks good but how do you serve it? Spoon out as is or toss it in a bigger bowl to mix well? Won't the dressing make the cheese go pasty if it sits on it for several hours?
We make ours with: Iceberg, celery, red onion, fresh bean sprouts, frozen thawed peas, freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese, bacon, layer mayonnaise sprinkled with sugar then add chopped egg before tossing. No vinegar for us.
This brought back great memories! One of the favorite salads my Mom made. We made it pretty similar, but no Cheddar. The top was "frosted" with mayo, then sprinkled with Romano cheese and a little sugar. Soooo good the next day!

Spoon out carefully your desired amount. Mayo keeps everything moist. I don't use the mayo and make my own dressing to be served on the side.

Too funny and I increase the vinegar! Vinegar can be very polarizing, people love it or hate it.

Here in WI we call this salad 24 hour salad and it shows up at picnics, family reunions and backyard bbq’s all summer long!
