渓谷や茶畑を鉄道が進んでいきます。

そのあとは、コロンボへ移動し、日本会館を見学。
日本とスリランカの歴史的な繋がりを体感できました！

【スリランカ元大統領のスピーチ】
故ジャヤワルダナ元大統領は、１９５１年のサンフランシスコ講和会議にセイロン代表（当時蔵相）として出席し、「憎悪は憎悪によって止むことなく、愛によって止む（hatred ceases not by hatred, but by love）という仏陀の言葉を引用し、対日賠償請求権の放棄を明らかにするとともに、わが国を国際社会の一員として受け入れるよう訴える演説を行いました。この演説は、当時わが国に対し厳しい制裁処置を求めていた一部の戦勝国をも動かしたとも言われ、その後のわが国の国際社会復帰への道につながるひとつの象徴的出来事として記憶されています。

Former President Jayewardene attended the San Francisco Peace Conference in 1951 as the representative of Ceylon (then Finance Minister). In his speech, he quoted the Buddha's words, "Hatred ceases not by hatred, but by love," and made it clear that Ceylon would renounce its right to claim reparations from Japan. He also appealed for Japan to be accepted as a member of the international community. This speech is said to have moved some of the Allied powers, who were demanding severe sanctions against Japan at the time, and is remembered as a symbolic event that paved the way for Japan's reintegration into the international community.
