This is really interesting because I used to go mining in Maine from the early 80's to the middle 90's, and somewhere along the route was a pipe that had flowing water where people could fill up milk bottles and such. One time, we stopped and I filled up a jar with this water. But every time I drank some of this water, I would get totally wiped out. Six months later, I found out that they had tested this water and it had a high amount of Lithium in it! Interesting how it took that long to find out about the Lithium.

Gaston County NC has a history of lithium mining and processing. A visit could provide some useful information.

As a geologist and marine geophysicist, who also has a vacation home in Newry since the early 70s thanks to my folks, this strikes home. I honestly am not sure how I feel about it.

Lithium will be popular for a time but cars will be moving away from lithium so it won't be as much in demand as thought.

They should be allowed to mine this lithium.

Maine used to be a huge industry state where we used to destroy our environment for the sake of business in industry we have recently come up with new laws protecting our environment with some of the strictest mining laws in the nation and I’m sure if we want to destroy those new laws and start destroying our environment then we could find all kinds of valuable minerals and deposits all over Main but we will also destroy the beauty that the people here care about the people here the taxpayers are against destroying so the reality is mining is not an option here in Maine and it doesn’t matter how valuable the element that they want to mine is it’s not worth destroying our pristine environment that is just beginning to heal itself the Sebasticook river is just finally starting to get clean as well as many others across our beautiful state however mining of lithium would require open brain pits which would destroy and kill migrating birds as well as literally destroy the beauty of our state so I say we respect the new laws we put into place and we Live with them for at least 50 to 100 years before we even consider looking back

The moral of the story is you own nothing, if it is supposedly your property and they tell you what you can do and can't do well guess what it is not yours !!

My first thought was how can I get some of that money. You betcha yall better be on the look out. That’s like finding gold in the 1800’s. This means that surrounding land is way more valuable than Realtors understand. Mining companies from New Mexico and California are gonna be blowing your phones up. Gain your independence by Getting rich!

This will never be mined, the southern liberals here in Maine consider the northern half of the state there own personal backyard and will never allow any new industry. And if that means that the "peasants" (as they see them) have to live in squalor without meaningful jobs, then so be it.

Not a question of how to get it. It has to happen to stay ahead of China and the world. We have something they need and we want so get mining.

Extracting these minerals can be done safely, and to those who don't believe so, if it would harm the enviroment... Is it okay, as long as it happens somewhere else?

@@deltronzero9 And there's lithium HERE. And a massive opportunity to create jobs and income. I don't know what the hell you're talking about "guarding the gate", considering that Maine is a tourist state as it is, and much if it's economy depends on the annual influx of people and money from elsewhere.
