Thanks for posting. I've been tracking down all the locations from 1956's "The Wrong Man," and have been researching the Victor Moore Arcade. (I think the food joint at 8:45 is where Manny sat and "picked horses.") It's amazing on how few photos of the old subway station/arcade are out there. This video is really a great resource.
Amazing, I lived on 74st between Broadway and 41st (closer to Broadway) from 1966 - 1999, so this brought back a flood of memories. Thanks for posting this incredible time capsule.
Wow man, I appreciate so much that you got to take these vids many years ago, I pass by that bus terminal every morning to go to school and am amazed at how it looked two decades ago, thanks! Ur the best!
Thanks for uploading! I went through here all the time when I was younger, & completely forgot on how it used to be, down to the all the cigarette ads and chain link fences separating the bays inside the bus arcade. All the staircases, and old ramps in Roosevelt. Even the old Transit Police District used to be there, definitely quite the station. Funny the things you remember as a kid. Thanks again!
Hi Trainluvr Love your vids I am Queens native myself But I was born in 1998 so the Arcade by then was being replaced by the new transit center which opened in 2005 so my early memories back when I was a kid was when it was under construction but I do remember Tribourugh Coach but I lived in Queens Surface territory I was wondering how big was the Pakistani, and Indian community back then in the 80s and 90s my dad immigrated here in the early 80s and use to tell stories of how Jackson Heights was where all Desis came together and shop stuff etc back in the 80s and 90s I live in Fresh Meadows now so my family does not really go to Jackson Heights much like we did in the early 2000s. Have you heard of Kebab King and Shaheen Resturant one of the first Pakistani/Indian Restutrants in NY
74th was mostly south asian by the early 80s. The Arcade building didn't actually close until 2001. Pre 1966 there was a paper transfer between lines, going back to the 1940s.
Thanks for setting my memories right. You correct it was 2001 when it closed .I was 4 back in 2002 and I saw the construction between 2002 and 2005 when it opened. Thing is I only remeber when the new terminal was under constrution. I asked my dad about the Arcade and he told me it use to be seedy area during the early 80s.
Hey trainluvr. Do you have any more videos riding the R33s world's fairs at this point in time? I am a big fan of specifically the R33S cars. overall the other redbirds
Prettier awesome. Greta job man! What movie are the last images, and do you happen to have videos of 82 and 37 ave, as well anything on 90th also Northern blvd?
I honestly wouldn't understand why they had that " Queensboro 8th ave" sign on the underground 74th street station. If they meant only 8th avenue via Manhattan only the E train goes that route. Others that wants to take F goes via 6th avenue, R goes via Broadway, G goes through only Brooklyn etc. Pretty much confusing for the non-New Yorkers, tourists, and ppl who are new to the area if they only had that for the display back at that time...
There was no F train when the station opened. There was no need to update the signs since people in those days had a working brain, and were willing to ask strangers and change booth agents for directions. However, I would agree that the newer type signs should have been installed earlier, but funds were needed for other priorities.
@@trainluvr The 74th underground station opened in the early 1930's, the F train introduced in 1940 running via Hillside Qns Blvd express (Queens) towards via 6th avenue line (Man.) But, why did it take that length of time in that span of over 50 yrs to not put that sign when you took that footage in '94? Anyways, it still would've been pretty confusing if I were able to take that entrance since neither of those trains would've directly go to the Bronx...
Hard to believe that 94 was 2 decades ago! Great shots of Queens and the redbirds was a cool treat!
Now almost 3 decades ago 😩

I miss these times 😢
Thanks so much for this. I was trying to remember what the 74th St station looked like in the 90s before the renovation in 2002. Perfect!

You're welcome. DON'T miss My YEAR 2000 trip to Victor Moore Arcade vid! Also the 1991 Jackson Heights Vid.
I didn't realise that some subway entrances still had their original signs all the way up into the '90s!

You're welcome. If TH-cam existed in my time, I might have had to drop out of college!

Wow, an abnormally UN-crowded 7 train!
of course, there was a million less people in the city then
you are doing god's work, this is incredible!
I didn’t know we’re still stations with those signs back in 1994.
I wish you'd have shot the subway stories comic store in there
Do you have more videos of Jackson heights especially of the south Asian community?
