This is a great hack! My dash cam just came off because of this problem. Never had issue since I bought it about a year ago. I immediately went on the internet to find replacement and found one that’s compatible for $30! Insanely overpriced. Then you are to add the shipping cost plus the wait time for delivery! This not only saves me money but also time! Thank you so much!
My solution. I have an old model of Vantrue N2pro. The old model suction mount was of poor quality and I was delighted around 3 years ago to find they had introduced a new "improved" mount. They are, I believe, on their third which is not compatible with the older model. I bought two for the cars and they served well until recently. One began to tumble down regularly until it has no suction and was useless. I noticed the rubber had frayed a little probably due to the increasingly hot summers in SW France. Strangely the other still works for the moment. I have followed the similar advice here and in ,other sites without any success. So I went through the "traditional" solution route. I bought translucent very strong double sided tape which seems to be a Chinese only made product from Ali Express of 1mm. I carefully stuck it around the suction edge and without the camera being attached attacked it to the windshield (windscreene). Holding it firmly in place for 2 minutes. To my surprise it has held firm with the camera attached for three weeks now in hot weather. Time will tell. The advantage of this tape is its not unsighgtly and, if necessary, can be removed easily without trace
Be careful, I tried it with hot water and it worked a bit. Then I used a hairdryer and it got better. Then I wanted to make it even straighter with the lighter and it got melted, damaging it inreversably.
Even easier fix. BOIL WATER. Fill a coffee mug 1/4 INCH of water. Put the suction cup in face down. (With no tension on the spring). This will flatten it out quicker and easier/cleaner. I still cleaned mine afterwards with some alcohol. Thanks for the tip. That's what made me find this other way!
I've actually done it several different ways since I made that video 3 years ago. Since then, I sent the mfg of the unit an email, and they sent me one that you permanently glue to the windshield, that was about 2 yrs ago. Not a problem since then.
I guess you'd say that! It actually works really well. I've done this to this particular suction cup at least 4 times.... It last about 4 months in hot weather... longer than that in cool weather
Jack, you are wrong. That depression under the suction cup has the role of allowing the suction cup to catch a small volume of air under it, air that will be pushed out from under the suction cup when you apply it to the place where you need it. In this way, a vacuum will be created under the suction cup, and the suction cup will be fixed there precisely because of the atmospheric pressure, which is slightly higher than the pressure under the suction cup. What you are doing there with the lighter is ... pathetic. You can improve the original product, even if it is older, with a double-adhesive silicone sheet, which will increase even more the adhesion of the suction cup on the windshield. I wanted to attach a picture but I can't.

Thank you for your kind words, they need to make a better system for the dash cam suction cups
Great video!! I just bought my second GPS suction cup and always used water to stick it but this is a MUCH BETTER idea! Thank you.

Be careful, I tried it with hot water and it worked a bit. Then I used a hairdryer and it got better. Then I wanted to make it even straighter with the lighter and it got melted, damaging it inreversably.

Just go to five below and get a new one for 5 bucks
Thanks for this! Having the same problem with my dash cam.
It actually works for about 6 months.
@@JackTemple nice! I'm tired of it falling while I'm driving. Thanks again!

@@apostolicway2604 Some times your plastic is too old, and has been damaged too much by the sun... (Probably dried out)
thanks , i think i have exactly the same car cam as you and it wont stay on the window.
Salty hot water
How long do you think that'll last?????
That last about six months, and then you have to do it again. But at least it works for a while.
Wow! Love this!
Great idea!!
It works Barbara!
Holding a lighter open for 15 minutes? You do make life harder for yourself. Use a hair dryer, or hold it over the edge of a stove top element.

Just glue it
kinda like shrink wrap 🤔
