I had a Giulia Veloce on lease for 3 years. Misano blue , 19 dark hole alloys and yellow callipers. Every fuel stop , every junction, every car park, I’d get compliments all the time. It was faultless in ownership. The only downside was I’m ashamed to say I accrued 9 points for speeding. So after the lease finished I bought a 1988 Alfa Sprint QV . Daily drove that for 12 months before getting a more sensible GT 1.9 JTDm for the motorway miles I was doing.
Have one for 2 year now. My wife daily drives it as she does low miles..I take the x5 30d on my daily commute. We have our baby seat in the back. Super drivable daily with plenty space and great economy. Then at the weekends ,I take it, put in race and have the time of my life. Amazing car.
Love the video 👍🏼 Back in 2018 I owned a brand new Giulia 2.2 diesel with a remap to 240hp, rwd, and a wonderful chassis. I loved it. The car got totalled in an accident which wasn’t my fault, and I made the mistake to not replace it with another Giulia. I mis it every day and I’m really craving after a Giulia Q with manual transmission. At the moment it’s out of reach for me, but one day this will be my dad car. @@dadcars understandable, the Stelvio drives very similar to the Giulia. Saw you recently on Alex's channel putting the child seats in the rover. I've been using my ct4 blackwing as a kid hauler. currently at 615whp it moves around pretty well!
Good video! I love how unfazed your daughter is with >500 bhp acceleration.... I spent 9 years in XFR's (also a 500bhp 4 door RWD Dadcar, and one you should consider) and switched to one of these recently. I can't really fault it to drive, though I do miss the V8 sound on startup and at low revs. Its ride quality - crucial in this country with its awful roads - really sets it aside from the typical German competiton, as does the rarity and lack of negative image. It is incredibly easy to drive in normal mode like you say - the Jags could bite - in a big way - even with all the aids on. That "£1900 major service" is every 4th service not every other. Using prices from AHM, one of the best specialists (not far from you as I recognise some of those roads) - which are similar to main dealer prices but with better care/knowledge - my 2018 would be £475/£565/£475/£1345 to service, in recurring 4 year blocks. Until you need the usual diet of brakes and batteries anyway............. Also its well into 2018 before you get 5 belts and folding seats... They are not an easy car to learn the precise specs on, there were very few changes from 2016 to 2024 but its hard to get definitive facts about what the specs are! Overall the car is so, so capable and quick that its almost its biggest drawback, its moved the game on so much from the 156GTA I had 20 years ago, but the roads and speed limits are the same. The New Car Uplift tax is insane, I didn't realise it was so steep. Makes my 650i's £630-odd seem not so bad... I do agree on the interior; every car seems to have black leather (or faux-leather) interior so a high-end car needs a bit more to feel as special as it looks. Ben's Grandsport has both an eye-catching exterior colour and a lovely interior colour.
I have a 2017 Quadrifoglio and tax this year was only £180 ! Insurance is good too- it’s my perfect Dad car! Love it. Only issue is that the rear seats are not comfortable for my teenage girls after about an hour - so some well placed back supports solved that! Brilliant car. Oh and beats most things when provoked 😂
You are driving history my friend..... this is what Jaguar....Mercedes...BMW... could not do....Still holds the NURBURGRING record 8 years later and it will never be broken...NEVER!
Was hoping you would review one of these, I've got one and they are amazing, with plenty of kid space in the back etc. The car tax figure quoted seems a bit off though, I pay £570 per year. Also worth mentioning the Alfa Romeo service packs, I paid £1400 for 2 years which includes the 4 year or 36000 mile major service with belt change.
Speaking from experience (had one) the car tax is only £570 per year, I think you’ve got confused on the first year’s registration tax that’s included with the on the road price, for comparison £570 is the same as a diesel Mercedes would pay if the list price is over £40k. So it’s actually pretty good.
Yep, once it’s 6 years old it’s only uk £180, as any car over the £40k when new has the added £310/320 for 5 years following the 1st year’s rate, (unless full ev, which is set to change in April too.)
A 2ltr 4cylinder turbo engine such as an SR20DET pushing 300bhp will do 38mpg on a long run, but will eat 6 or 7mpg on a trackday! I know as I've done it!

really looking at one of these to potentially replace my mk4 supra and b7 rs4 into one car as ive got a baby on the way but talks of 20k in warranty work in such a new car is terrifying!
The bulk of that money was two new headlights and the active front splitter replacement… all of which could have been done for a fraction if they repaired not replaced. I personally wouldn’t be concerned about buying out outside of warranty and paying an independent to look after it 🤙
I've had one from new - 68 plate and 30k miles. No significant maintenance costs or reliability issues, servicing with a dealer pack isn't bad. Main complaint is that the original tyres were just dangerous when the conditions were cold or wet. Also, residuals seem okay.
How much quicker on the move is something like this than a Gransport? I own a Gransport but always wonder if these modern 500hp saloons feel significantly quicker on the move..
They feel more than 20 years apart in experience. Modern cars like this though don’t feel fast when cruising around. Where as in the GS you can be going 38mph and look down to check you’re not going over 40 😅 flooring it on a rolling start not in race and doing the same in a GS, I’d say the GS “feels” faster… but in race it’s very clear which is faster.
Great car, great engine, great sounds! Sh1t Italian reliability and electrics that will turn this into a money pit after a few years.. Lovely car though!
@@ianwoolfenden8654 If I got this car ... and I really love this car so maybe one day I will .. I would absolutely change that around it looks so obnoxious backwards. I've had one from new - 68 plate and 30k miles. No significant maintenance costs or reliability issues, servicing with a dealer pack isn't bad. Main complaint is that the original tyres were just dangerous when the conditions were cold or wet. Also, residuals seem okay.
I think for it to be a family car, it would have to be able to start & run everyday, No?
This or a Ferrari FF?
The FF is still my ultimate dream DadCar! 🙌
How much quicker on the move is something like this than a Gransport? I own a Gransport but always wonder if these modern 500hp saloons feel significantly quicker on the move..
I drove the gran sport, I kinda liked it, but for me the cars are not comparable
Alfa's are more reliable than any BMW or Audi, just look at the stats
My bet is when they reach “money pit” years they’ll also stop depreciating which will off set it 😉
Electrics and reliability did affect the early production up to the 2019 upgrade
giulia over an M3? 🧐
I have a MY21 and my tax is 600 something, am I missing something re the 1600?
Yeah that was a mistake 🤙 meant to say that was it was for the first year when new
1:44 ... did they put the flag stripe on backwards orrrrrr ...
It’s mirrored on either side, they do it all over the car, there’s some reason for it I can’t remember 😅
@@ianwoolfenden8654 If I got this car ... and I really love this car so maybe one day I will .. I would absolutely change that around it looks so obnoxious backwards. Putting a country's flag upside down OR backwards is legit disrespect. Who ever thought that was a good design idea needs to be fired.
This or an m3
Dream car! Sadly they start at 50000€ 😢
I know the owner 😂
Ferrari California (not 488) 🤣
F80 M3 is actually the way to go....😂😂😂
The interior on your f80 M3 is better that’s for sure 😅
If your brain maybe
£78,195 tho, not really every dads car
I agree - I mean I own one, I’m subscribed to this channel, and I’ve not even got kids, so maybe this channel isn’t solely for niche dads who have the exact same budget as yourself?
There are a few on auto trader for sub £30k!
@@MattiusMaximus I can afford one, I am mortgage free, I just wouldn't be happy with the depreciation, and some gutless turd wanting to whip it off my drive.
@@dadcars some poor bugger took the hit on that, depreciation is my biggest gripe.
The lightweight thing is not true. As your friend Jayemm said, “Alfa’s scales don’t work”. It actually weighs around 1700Kg.
Yeah they claimed it was lightest in class or something but that was dry weight and it wasn’t …. Modern cars are not light! It’s still lighter than a G80 M3.
Hi Ben and daughter. Hope your all doing good.
That is one very cool car. I love the color of it. I also love that red stitching on the inside. Love the back folding seats too.
I remember when my Mum had a Alpha Romeo Milan or Milano. Cool cat, but it was small.
Loved the video. Take care and stay safe.
I’m hoping to get some older, more affordable alfas on soon too :)
Alfa* Romeo Milano (or 75 in the world)
Many thanks for the really great and authentic presentation of the Giulia. With your typical manner, you convey the emotions that one has when driving an Alfa. I also think it's great that you are passing this Alfavirus on to your children.
😂👏👌
Just brought a 2020 QV after my son wanted to go to car shows with me and Mrs saying the car had to have isofix and take two car seats. This video was the decision maker, Cheers!
Happy to be of service! Congrats! You have an awesome DadCar!! 👏
The best thing about the Tonale is the colour. I do like Alfas though, and the Quadrifoglio is a peach.
Yeah externally the tonale is a cool looking suv…
Finally, finally you picked a winner. Coulda washed it mind you.
Definite Dad Car goals!
Thanks Daniel! For a channel at my size this means the world 🙏🥰
