Next upgrade I'm doing is for the Alesis Strike module around $700 because I love that onboard sampling and individual ins and outs.

I've had the ATV cymbals for about a month. Bought the 18" ride and was so impressed I immediately upgraded all my cymbals. Compared to the Alesis Strike and Roland Cy14 cymbals, the ATVs are by far the most realistic and best feeling I've played. The Hi-hat was extremely loud and I actually prefered my roland vh11 and returned the Hi Hat. The ATV hi hat actually requires a power supply and upon inspection, the top hat is just one of the 14" crashes with a hi hat clutch. Just my input for anyone wondering about ATV.

Yes! I use a pretty old vdrum set at church. I found a $500 MacBook Pro bought ez drummer and decided to cross grade for around 250. It was so worth it.

I'm still wondering why anyone would watch ur videos and give a thumbs down... anyways, I just love ur videos brother. I got my first electronic drums here in Nigeria from watching ur reviews. I bought an Alesis dm10, later got Roland td 30 and now mimic pro awesome module. amazing work sir. I pray all off this effort brings some heavy dollars into ur account... God bless you always

Really enjoying the videos, thanks! I had $1000au to upgrade my standard roland td25kv. I got a used kd140, a used pd128s a used pdx12. A brand new Bt1 bar trigger and new snare stand. Sold the kd9 and 2 x pd85s. Ended up costing $950 ( $700usd) for the upgrade.

In answer to your question Justin, if I had the money I’d get several Versatrigger wireless triggers and give them a try. Dealing with wires when gigging is getting to be a pain.

Versatrigger was really interesting, I tried it out back when It was brand new and had bugs. Wonder how good it is now.

65 Drums I saw your review and it looks like they have added hi-hat and cymbal triggers to their product line since then. Their U-Box could also connect to an existing edrum as a wireless transmitter. If I get a chance to try them I will let you know the results.

What about the Alesis strike module? I see it on ebay second hand for around 600 pounds. I am starting to consider to get rid of my first kit. Jobeky drum shells for around 500 hundred bucks (second hand), module TD-11/15/25, drummit 3 (not decided yet as I HATE CABLE SNAKES AS MUCH AS YOU DO). Keep my rack at the moment (TD -3 drum rack) and the cymbals: second hand roland or go crazy and get Jobeky Low volume cymbals (375 brand new). Total: Around 1100-1600 pounds. I also need a Hi hat stand (60 pounds) what do u think people?

Very cool ideas. Thanks for sharing them!! Roc-n-Soc drum thrones ROCK and are worth every penny! I recently ordered a Laurin snare drum as extensive research I did online shows very favorable reviews. I plan to make a unboxing and first impressions video once I receive it and hope to upgrade all my toms if Its as good as I think its going to be.

Totally agree about the VST (even tho is use GetGoodDrums and windows laptop ;)) : this changes everything for 100$.
Considering how cheap a td17 module sound but a good the pads and cymbals are, this was a total waste to stay with the stock sounds.
Sounds is getting awesome and this really make it feel better to!
Especially when you like to mix your sound in the daw to recreate album sound.
For me this is the purpose of e kit : playing on mix ready kits with sounds you've heard on your favorites records

Awesome ideas (love these types of videos, justin!)! Just to add a few more to the arsenal on the Neil Peart-type idea:
Nowadays we can get whole kits at really great sale prices. The cool parts of this idea: we'll get a module, so no running out of inputs/polyphony; we'll get a rack and/or other hardware to help expand/replace what we have, likely get another pedal or other hi hat option along with both drum pads, cymbals and bass drum as well as all of the cables!
Yamaha's DTX532K and KAT's KT3 Advanced are both 999.99 USD right now. I've also seen some nice Roland SPD-30 Octapad or SPD-SX Sample Pad bundles with stand and other accessories to make it an awesome addition for the same 999.99 - even the heftier SPD-SX Special can be got with a stand for that amount at some places.
Coming in just under a grand for about the same size kit as those mentioned above are Roland's TD-11K, Yamaha DTX 522K (let's say we don't need or want an actual HH stand, but just the cymbal to be used as a cymbal/china), and either Nord or Yamaha's awesome multipad solutions with a stand and possibly other goodies.
Go even cheaper and we can get the new Alesis Command Mesh kit to add one 10" mesh drum, three (+1 bass) 8"" mesh drums, three little 10" cymbals, pedals, hardware, cables and a module that can accept samples - though somewhat limited on the sample thing.
Granted, some of these things might not be as great as they seem on screen. Be aware and really look into things.

Next thing I would upgrade is my brain of my drums if I had $1000 to spend because I have a Roland td9 and updating it would mean better support for other pads I get in the future, for example the newer pads only work with the newer brains, but still support all the older pads, so I would then be able to buy any pad and know that it would work with my drums , unless the company exclusively only makes the pads for their specific brand.

  • @Vdrumtips1

For me it would be the ATV cymbals, I would buy a whole set and resell some of my Roland cymbals. This way I would have a big upgrade for less than 1000$. Hopefully the dent-problem will be resolved.

6:51- can't DISAGREE with you more, about Windows laptops and drum software. For the record, I'm using a 9-year old Dell Precision laptop (M4600-- 2nd generation i7 quad-core, full HD display). I bought it used on ebay for $225 which is about what they always sell for (came with standard hard drive, and only 8gb ram). I've upgraded it over the years with very cheap upgrades: a 500GB SSD (Windows 7), and a 2nd 1TB SSD (in the optical bay, where a DVD drive was). $250 investment a few years back. Even with only 8GB ram initially, Superior 2 ran flawlessly. Now, the laptop has 32GB ram (max-- a $120 upgrade) and Superior 3 is flawless. Not only that, but I can have other synth plugins in a Reaper project, with two instances of Superior (two different kits from different libraries) and I have absolutely no issues at all. Total cost for the laptop with upgrades: $595. My upgrade to Superior 3 from 2 was only $150.. so, total.... $745. 32GB ram, 1.5tb of pure solid-state storage. POWERFUL laptop and Superior Drummer 3.
Mac is not the be all end all. Any Windows laptop decently set up / configured and optimized for audio will blow away a Mac and at 90% less cost. Just an FYI for anyone out there. Love your vids Justin, but no way is a Mac better for drum software or audio than an optimized Windows laptop or tower. :)

Thank you for another informative video. I upgraded my TD-30k by adding a PD-125 for a 2nd floor tom and a cymbal percussion pack (CY-8 + hardware). Also found a PD-8 at GC for 19.00 to be used as a 2nd snare/timbale... so my set is shaping up quite nicely. I performed some cable management by wiring everything through the frame. Also ordered a Kat silent strike bass drum beater to try that out.
QUESTION: Have you done any "mods" to your 30k (CY-15R bell mod and PD-125bk to 128 mod)? I especially would like more sensitivity to the bell without having to lay into it. There are mod videos, but I would like your take on this topic, being a TD-30k owner for several years. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I don't think that drum set was out when I made this video. It's a solid drum set. Module is the only downside because it's the TD17 expanded, not the td27. All the pads are pretty nice

If anyone can answer this question that owns a trick double bass pedal (dom2 dominator) that uses it on a e drumset. I am looking to use these specific pedals for a Roland 17KVX (can’t remember the name of the kick drum pad) would it be a good investment using the dominator trick double pedal with the Roland 17KVX kick drum pad?

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Nfuzd uses eighth inch cables, so all you'd need is a eighth inch to quarter inch adapter. I'm not sure if all 3 zones on the ride would work, but it's worth asking Jobeky about :)

While I agree with most of the stuff you said in this video, I cannot agree with you on the statement regarding Mac. PCs are equally good at VST. I’d save that extra money you suggest on spending on a Mac and buy some expansions for Superior Drummer instead and an ASIO compliant sound card if you don’t have it already.

    • @StilettoSniper
      @StilettoSniper 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Lukasz R, I totally agree with you.
Justin, as a professional software engineer that has developed for both Windows and MacOS, you just totally lost my respect as a reliable source of information and guidance with that broad stroke, off the cuff blanket condemnation that all Windows laptops simply "suck for drum software". Sure, some people PREFER to purchase MacOS and Apple hardware over Windows, but it is your across-the-board condemnation of all Windows hardware and operating systems as "sucking at drum software" that disturbs me. I suspect that despite your quasi-authority status here and background as a computer and edrum software user, you are not acceptably experienced across a sufficiently varied number of Windows platforms to make such an incredibly far-reaching and broad statement. Does your broad-brush statement include folks that have the latest laptop hardware and Windows software, and are using audio interfaces with excellent reputations for reliability and performance, such as RME? Would those "suck for drum software" nevertheless, should they trade them in for a used MacBook to get better sound? Is this broad recommendation to simply upgrade to a used Macbook based solely on your own experience trying to configure your gaming laptop with Windows, SD and your FocusRite audio interface? I would hope not! Can't wait to see your video that explains technically why only Macs "suck less" at running drum software. I have a feeling there are more than a few of your followers that will beg to differ with you and have their own positive Windows-based experiences to counter yours.
Since so much of what you say on this channel is based on opinion, and not incontrovertible facts, I'd suggest putting a bit more thought into what you say and how you say it, BEFORE you actually say it, so as not to mislead your viewers. This is especially the case if you are framing it as a recommendation or even a what-if suggestion that others should consider to spend their hard-earned cash on. Because some people out there will likely take your statements at face value and may act on them without further research, and based on what I heard here about how every Windows laptop simply "sucks for drum software" and getting a used Mac is the way to go, taking your recommendations at face value would be a real shame.

Justin, I’m a subscriber and I’m commenting on one of your random videos here.
Could I talk to you by phone to get your pro opinion on the new Roland TD-25KV set I just bought? I’m second-guessing my purchase. I bought a Roland TD 25 KV for $2300 delivered, and want to sell my complete Roland TD-8 kit which I bought in December of 2001. I was one of the more active guys on Vdrums.com back then, when Roland‘s nylon mesh pads were fairly new.
I think you suggested I keep my Roland KD-80 kick pad, while I sell my new KD-9 kick and the lame included new MDS-9 drum rack with my ancient TD-8.
(I also bought a new DW MDD double kick pedal and MDD 2-leg hi-hat stand.) Please advise. Your reviews are great. Thanks, brother. 👍🏻🇺🇸
