      I guess the BIA scared my parents so much they were too scared to teach us Navajo. Now I have to learn. I wish they weren't so scared but so brave with bringing heritage and giving us opportunity by moving off the rez to obtain work and school where there are few on rez. Whereabouts are you from? Were Blacksoil area

    My daughter and I just got back from Canyon de Chelly. We were literally awestruck by the majesty of this beautiful place.. and by the Navajo people throughout Arizona. Every single person we met from the area was kind and genuine. We truly appreciated this glorious place. Thank you for this video, we are honored to have been able to experience something so amazing.

      I'm sorry to say, but your name is Shawn Price. You speak English. Follow basketball. Listen to rap music or whatever. You have lost all culture there was. It would have been impossible to maintain it. And some Indian reservations don't even have natives living on there.

      Aztec Pride In Brazil most people are more native than these people on these reservations. And they are not regarded as indigenous. In South America nobody would regard these people as indigenous. I also doubt that you are that Aztec.

      @@joaogarrincha2971 I want to get mad and shout foulness at you! But then I realized I never thought most of these people who say they’re native are actually indigenous people! Like I’ve been saying they’re mixed with like a quarter native, but mostly they come from Mexico, central and South America or they’re of Asian heritage from the Philippines China and South Korea! There’s no more full blood indigenous Americans most have signed up for the casino money or the benefits the tribes give them like health insurance, lower taxes, tribal housing that they don’t have to pay a mortgage for, educational opportunities for their kids plus daily stipends for childcare, etc etc mainly it’s all about the benefits! Hey I guess we will be seeing you signed up for a tribe, you get your very own membership card and everything! It’s a blast being native🙂

    • @5cjensen
      @5cjensen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joaogarrincha2971 Wondering.....you need to worry about where you got your name. FYI we all speak English here in the USA whether we are non-native or not, a free country to participate in sports and listen to rap, country music or whatever music we choose to listen to. Some of us natives are very connected to our culture and proud of it. just so you know!

    I have visited Canyon de Chelly. My Navajo guide told me that to this day, his people regard Kit Carson as nothing more than a brutal killer whom they will never forgive. I have enormous respect for the Navajo people who have preserved their unique culture despite early misguided efforts to "assimilate" them into the Anglo way of life. You can find many Navajo elders who proudly volunteered to serve in the US Marine Corps. Sadly, however, despair and alcoholism is not uncommon among the older men.

      pinch mesh, as I understand, Navajo is, along with Apache, an Athabaskan language, with most of the "family" in Alaska. I took a tour of Canyon de Chelly back in '87, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our Navajo driver/guide was excellent. The only problem was that I didn't realize that the Res. doesn't participate in DST, so thinking I was way early, I nearly missed the tour. Oops!

    A lot of information but a lot of conflicting lineages. Being from Hopi/Zuni: I see there is a lot of misleading information. These place have names already and to which clans and migratory peoples that did pass through there. Some clans trace their origins from South America and to the north and both coasts have ties to these places and oral history details the histories of those places. Be it that the Navajo are now there, they should address that theses paces ought to be left alone and respected. some places are cursed or have a sickness about them. But to know what some symbols mean ask those who came from there. Rant over lol but yeah, just being a matter of fact.

    I was taught by a Dineh Navajo Historian, about the Yei Be Chei sp? dancers and what the dance is about. I did not see "The Clown" who represents the 5 fingered being. Perhaps he was off being a clown, and not following the dancers. Since that is his part in the dance. The lead dancer performs all moves, those behind him have to follow his every step and move. The Clown tho, he is supposed to follow the person in front, but per the reason for the dance, he steps out of line and goes around to the ppl watching the dancers and does what he wants. Has fun and whatnot. This is like the 5 fingered being. We always want to do what feels good to us, but is not best for everyone over all. The 5 fingered beings, are the Children of the Holy People. We are flawed and must strive to be better, continuously.

    I'm embarrassed to hear these story teller's talking about Na Ba Ho culture and the anasazi a lot of it aren't true for example this story teller says were in the 5th world and that ain't true, what I hear from my great grandparents is were in the yellow world and I hear that from a lot of our elders not from books or college educated brother's and sisters that barely can pronounce and talk in Na Ba Ho language so all you brother's and sisters need to quit fighting. If you want to know the truth talk to the elders not to many of them left that knows the truth of our native cultures across America north and south .

    According to Navajo traditional teachings the Anasazi had no descendants. They came from the south to the area and started to fight with the Pueblo and take them and other natives as slaves. He says that Chaco Canyon is where different groups of natives got together and dropped rocks over cliffs to destroy the Anasazi. He said that Chaco Canyon is where Pueblo natives once lived till Anasazi took it over. He said to look at the difference in how it is built you can see the Pueblo style with a different style of building right on top or next to it. Navajo traditional teachings also said there was two people before the Anasazi came. The Pueblo natives and the Cliff dwellers. He said that both groups were fighting with Anasazi.

    The Navajo are their own people originally. As they always came from the east, crossed the big rivers and onto the sea of grass. THey camped while scouts went ahead west and then later reported back. The Anasazi and fremont were already there. Many of which joined the Dineh, but some joined and ended up leaving never to be seen again. In this way, The Dineh are now a mix of Ana soza and Fremont and Dineh. Modern day Navajos could be descendents of all the diff. clans around 2k yrs ago. Over the last 2k yrs. I"d say you are Dineh Navajo still.

      They shot part of the film, 'Billy Jack' on top of Spider Rock. Yes, some People have climbed to the top of Spider Rock. Its against the Law to Climb Spider Rock, now. And, in 1863. Over 300 Navajos took refuge on top of the Navajo Fortress Rock (600 feet high), during the Navajos Long Walk. Fund raising has started on another Skyhorse Productions Film ...
