Thanks Keith for your great video tour of Wellingborough. This was my favourite station until we moved to Australia in 1983. We have returned for family visits every 2/3 years and each time I have taken many shots both still and video. I was disappointed to realise I could not visit this year to see all the changes but in one video you have captured them all. Thank you so much and keep doing what you do. Cheers Mike
Great to see the work that goes into our stations, a lot of people complain about the railways and don’t appreciate what goes on to improve and keep them running, I think they do an amazing job
Thanks for the tour video and my goodness how Wellingborough station has changed used to go through a long time ago en route to Sheffield, so pleased the old loco sheds have been saved as well as certain bits at the station. Take care stay safe, stay well.
Thank you Keith for a very informative tour of the improved station at Wellingborough Midland. Lovely to see the architecture of the Midland railway. I notice that the name of the new development of Wellingborough is named 'Stanton Drew' The name Stanton may be a nod to the mining and quarrying of ironstone that took place locally by Stanton. That had a beautiful metre gauge railway. The locos are preserved locally at Irchester. Wellingborough used to have a fantastic variety of motive power unlike these days with those awful sheds, (I suppose they might be the equivalent of an 8f )oh to see a 9f banging through Wellingborough. Its sad that Wellingborough will be poorly served by British Railways!!!! (EWS read Eastern, Western, Southern Region). Stephen
Thanks for the visit to Wellingborough station. I love to hear you talking us through the events. It is mostly trains that provide the sound on railway videos. Smilevideotrains is a very apt name for your channel. You keep me smiling.
It’s unbelievable how much change there has been not only to the station, the shed area and of course Neilson sidings where the GBRf 66 was. Back in the 80s I spent many an hour down there with the 45s and 47s on the mainline passengers, then the HSTs of course. Thank you for doing this brought back many memories.
Nice to see someone had sense to stick a preservation order on those wonderful engine sheds. So much of the old character of the railways has been lost through demolition for the sake of demolition. Thanks for taking us along with you Keith, made for an interesting video.
Enjoyed your tour of your local station Keith and the changes that are taking place, your commentary was so imformative, some people get paid for doing the same only your the best! Never had the pleasure of this lovely station so can't appreciate how it was really. A very worthwhile tour really enjoyed , go back to bed now, ha ha! Cheers Nick.
Hi Keith, good to see your new video. Great improvement to the station, thank you for taking the time to cover it. Hope all is well with you and your Lady June. Stay safe in these strange times my friend. 👍
Great to see you about Keith! Don't worry about the shakes, I can manage that on stills. Although, if you hadn't said I would have thought it was the 'vertical hold' on my laptop (showing my age). ;-)
An interesting little look at the Wellingborough station changes there Keith. It's all starting to look very different and modern now, but the old station and buildings looked lovely in the sunshine. I think those Corby electrics and timetable change will be at least 6 months late if not a whole year........
Amazing. I was just there today and was astounded at the changes in this area. My brother and I used to train spot here over 60 years ago. We'd come from Higham Ferrers on the"Gusher" and arrive at Platform 5. The new footbridge replaces the one that was there at that time. Oh happy days.
Well, improvements in one direction, but not in another! I notice the "Trench" diggers were at work on the station Platform, where would we be without trenches on a platform! ;-) Thanks for the update Keith, look forward to your next programme, Ian.
Wow! Most of Wellingborough Station seems to have changed beyond recognition in most parts for me. I haven't been there for twenty odd years though. Thanks for sharing Keith.
Good attention to detail on making the footbridge extension the same design as that already there. Will be interesting to see 'sparks' flying through there in the near future
Very enjoyable, I did chuckle at your comments about the way things are these day and over announcing everything. Too many signs and you miss the important one. It drives me mad too.
Keith I believe the different platform heights is to allow for the cant of the track to allow for a faster speed on the through trains. Keep the videos coming!
Wellingboro' in its heyday had 5 platforms, where the height difference between plat 2 & 3 was a south facing bay platform for Northampton trains, platform 3 & 4 was used for locals to Highham Ferrers & Rushden. North end of station (behind the Stn masters office was all coach sidings. Prior to 1962 ish.
Thanks Keith. I have only been to Wellingborough Station once, about three years ago, and all the 'rework' has taken place since then. With the bay platform that has been removed, isn't the 'new' Platform 4 the 'old' Platform 5?
6 days per week, 12 hour days. I thought that only happened on Monty Python's Yorkshire men sketch! You ought to do a video on YOU. What you and Lady June did before you retired. I presume you worked on the railways? Or not?
@@SMILEVIDEOTRAINS If you get the time, put a video together with stills of photos of you and Lady June when you were younger. I only know you as an 82 year old man and Lady June with dementia. It would be good to see you younger and know more about you. If you ever come to Doncaster or York let me know and i'll come and meet you. Nick.
There is a proposal for a future Bedford to Leeds service somewhat down the line. Not for a few years. It sort of aligns with an idea I proposed for Bedford that trains from the north would terminate there after a future station upgrade at Bedford. Thereby alleviating traffic congestion south of Bedford and connecting Bedford to the north like it always has been. It seems ridiculous to me that any timetable would not accommodate connectivity directly to the north when you consider the railway was designed for it since day 1. Its not signed off yet and would be piggy backed off of HS2 developments since Toton will become the main hub to London via HS2. You can read about it here (after the first advert) www.therailwayhub.co.uk/7390/game-changer-hs2-proposals-could-slash-rail-journey-times/
Gotta laugh at those "waiting shelters". Assuming social distancing is still in effect, you can get a max of 6 people in there? Not expecting many people are they? I think Network Rail got them as a job lot - they seem to appear everywhere. Surprised we haven't seen them at Northampton yet - all that money spent on that carbuncle of a station building and the platform is still a mess. At least they'll improving Welly a bit, and Welly's station seems to have far more character than Northampton's... Whilst looking for oldie pictures to follow up this informative video; I found this - www.flickr.com/photos/78089679@N03/7026233805/
I agree about Northampton. So much money wasted on such a *****building. Platforms are hopeless especially in bad weather. The one and only shelter is well past it's sell by date. As for Welly, lovely preserved station with lots of character. Instead of getting a better service it is apparently gonna get worse. No express services. If you want to go to Sheffield for instance you will have to change at Ketterng and Leicester. Same for Nottingham. Welly has always been poorly served by rail. We will soon be getting 2 trains an hour to London, thats ok but we also have many people wanting to go north.

The Little R'Ale House sounds like my sort of pub. Will have to give it a visit when they open again. Thanks for the info.
