This "Game" has the potential to be the next big thing. If Minecraft can be as popular as it is given how limited it is compared with this "Game" then Dreams has the potential to be massive. I've put in hundreds of hours into Minecraft and I always wanted to fully realise my ideas, but unfortunately most of my ideas weren't possible within Minecraft. Dreams has far exceeded my expectations and as such I can't wait to get my hands on it. I can easily see Dreams becoming my new addiction. This "Game" will live and die by it's community. Dreams also has the potential to make so many people lots of money through TH-cam channels based solely on Dreams.
I don't think it's really fair to compare this to Minecraft. They are two very different types of games. Minecraft is an open-world mesh of sandbox gameplay and survival gameplay. This isn't anything specific. Dreams is basically whatever you want it to be. You can't really blame another game for not being able to achieve that. This is it extremely ambitious project.
@@michaelw4861 I didn't misunderstand your point. If you see an error in something, you correct it. Regardless of whether or not it changes the point. If you didn't, way more things like books and movies and video games would have all kinds of mistakes in them. That's how correcting things works.
@@godofthecripples1237 I don't think anybody was bashing Minecraft, just that many people used Minecraft to create insane creations even though the tools were limited. This just basically blows the limitations off and lets people go truly nuts. Part of the allure of the creations in Minecraft were that everything was painstakingly placed. So when someone creates the Death Star or Skull Island, it's truly something magnificent due to all of the time and effort put into making them. Dreams is very different. It won't take months to make the Death Star, it might just take a day or two, but that leaves you so much time to do other things. So while any one creation you make in Dreams may no longer be as alluring as those in Minecraft, that's simply due to the different levels of scope. Again, not a knock on Minecraft, just saying that the stuff we're gonna be amazed by in Dreams are gonna be fully realized creations.
I suspect those levels, games and general examples will be available to experience in the Beta. The value to show none creatives just what they can have access to if they buy Dreams makes it a no brainer for MM to just make available in the Beta. I think people will be shocked at just how much Dreams will have to offer to everyone that buys it. This looks phenomenal, like Game of the generation type stuff.

I think it's going to be the case for a lot of creators that they won't necessarily plan what they're going to make, but they'll explore what their imagination and the tools in Dreams lead them to make. One thing I will say is that the Souls games are always about the level design being key. The elaborate way that pathways intersect with each other and end up opening up, into this epic, but supremely cleaver world is what blows most of the people that play them. The enemy designs are also so inventive and tackle each one at each stage of your personal level of experience is just so satisfying. QUESTION!: This involves the legalities of copyrights. So say I make a story line in Dreams and somebody in the real world plays my story but then decided that he or she wanted to write a book format version of my story and publish it in the real world for themselves. Can he or she legally do that to me since my story isn't technically copyrighted? I've been trying to get an answer out of Mm but they keep telling me that they're still working on legal stuff and will have more info on that closer to release...I just have a fear of posting a story I have been working on for years into Dreams only to have some individual take it in this manor.
That's actually a great question, I had never thought of that. However, if they already told you that they'll have more info on that later, then I guess we just have to wait patiently. I bet they'll let us know before we get the game in our hands, so don't worry about it :)
They could unless you have a copyright registered, now the reason why is because you'd be publicly sharing it and offering it for them to edit and do with as they wish, if you haven't publicly released it and therefore haven't offered it to anyone to use or alter and someone found your story somehow, it would be protected by intellectual property, you made it therefore you own it until you publicly share it without stated legal copyright or trademark, and there's a whole mess of grey area's in the copyright legal area, my advice would be to keep any stories you greatly value to yourself until you can actually copyright it
Don't upload. Make a video recording of your story and characters etc then copyright the video/ story first and make your items uneditable. Then upload. Yes you have ability to make your stuff un editable.

I've been playing Little Big Planet for 10 years now, it's a great game/tool to come back to after gathering inspiration from other games. Dreams is the next step in allowing gamers and newcomers to express themselves and get it on screen for everyone to see and enjoy. Dreams needs to be marketed in a way that grabs people's imagination. Why not make trailers for different style games, then right at the end put made in Dreams across the screen. My most anticipated game after LBP.
LBP also appealed to platforming fans. From what I've seen, Dreams seems a bit more niche to me due to it's heavy emphasis on the game creation tool. I could be wrong of course and it ends up being a breakout hit.
I no joke found out about it yesterday and I'm a huge LittleBigPlanet fan, I think Mabo could be right. It really needs more marketing and promotion for such an awesome project.
man hearing these guys ooze positive impressions of this games makes me really excited as a 20yr old art major in college who's super invested in video game culture I hope these tools are as robust as they sound and just works above all else. Being able to get hands on with potentially a light game creation tool would be awesome.
@@eric-ph Never got into level building in LBP, but Dreams could very well become my primary animation software going forward for 3D productions. I want to produce VR films too!
Wow you guys really did a great job describing and gushing over this game but not seeming at all like your just star struck stupid by it, you have good reasons for your jaw dropping and you describe those reasons so damn well. This is the best coverage of Dreams I've seen done other than their own videos and this is as good or better than their own.
Why are they showing brand new gameplay and NOT focusing on that? "Yeah lets just play some unseen footage in the background to talk over, that sounds like a good idea."
I have seen every nanosecond of gameplay footage that exists of this game, I'm a bit obsessed. That's why I'm upset that there is new footage but they aren't letting it play on its own with the audio that would normally accompany it.
I have a feeling the one major limit in Dreams is going to come from Space limitations where the more you put into the game the laggier it starts to get until the FPS is so low the game is unplayable and that limit may not be large enough for really complex games. Also they won't be optimized at all so depending on how you build the game it could make it run better or worse like if you weren't really efficient with your Polygon counts your game will lag all over the place.
You can link levels together so if one level gets full you can go to the next level seamlessly since the next level loads while you're in the current level
People are making a huge thing out of how long the core campaign will be, but you have to also remember that there will probably be a tonne of games and other content that will be part of the Dreamscape stuff. The Devs at Media Molecule have been experimenting and we see the stuff they've made with Dreams in the trailers that the studio releases at each major event or even in their own demos online. Even on day one of the Beta we'll likely have access to a bunch of Dreams/Worlds that the developers have made. Most likely they could save Art's Story for the full release and just have the Devs Jamming online with the community to show newbies the potential of Dreams when the Beta lands later this year.
LOL, Little Big Planet in 3d is what Dreams is. People are going to love this MORE than Little Big Planet. You can make short films in this. It's going to be amazing.
Super excited for this! I know it's not going to explode upon release but it will be more of a slow burn to set the world in fire as new content gets created that interests people. I don't like the idea of people being able to monetize their creations but I'm all for being able to link your Patreon as a sort of tip jar. "I really enjoyed what you created in Dreams, here's $5, hope to see more from you!" Locking content behind a pay wall in a game that relies on community creations which you already paid for is not ok!
Well as long as you decide it's not ok for people to profit off their work, then I guess it's not ok. I guess Media Molecule has no right to put Dreams behind a pay wall either
If you take the time you can make stuff look pretty realistic. It's more so about time than if they engine can do it. Basically I think most stuff will have the cartoony painterly look to it but there will be ways to hack it if you get to know the tools superwell. However probably don't expect something looking like Uncharted.
Great podcast! I think when it comes to the thermometer and limits, you can take a look at the story MM crafted in Dreams itself. Optimisation tools are also a thing. I am still confused by copyright stuff. You can't make money with your creation in Dreams directly and it can be clear that your thing is a fan project (Let's say it is not high quality). I wonder how it violates the copyright stuff... Anyway, the tools of this game are really powerful and can be used in many ways, if Dreams itself can't apply to the mainstream audience, the community draw a lot of attention to it. LBP1 and LBP2 were new at the time, but they still managed to draw in millions of people.
oh man i cant wait ive been on tilt brush and medium since day one this thing looks amazing im finally getting a psvr just for this bwahahahahaha so stoked
I really think this game could blow up a whole new genre, and if things turn out allright, maybe even change gaming itself as an experience. Especially if it ever arrives on anything else than a Sony system. Or you know. Maybe a new No Man´s Sky type of letdown.
That's my concern, that the game will be an overly complicated second job to just create the most basic of things. There's nothing more demoralising than struggling with the logic stuff. Luckily it seems a lot of stuff is copy and paste. You want a FPS, or 2D side scroller you just take an already existing one with the basic elements you need and reskin it.
Regarding copycat games, the one stipulation should be to not use the likeness of copyrighted game characters or clones of levels in your games. Games with similar mechanics to existing games have existed forever and are not an issue. Similar is not an issue, clones is. The big issue is handling adult content. How do you moderate and restrict access to it? Very difficult.
It's going to be a nightmare moderating the adult content being uploaded. I wonder how 'mature' a creation can be before it can't be shared publicly. Do they have private sharing? Can it be has violent as Mortal Kombat or as sexual as Senran Kagura? what about disturbing imagery? something that isn't sexual or violent just unsettling to look at/listen to.
I did ask this but I think they just thought I meant porn stuff and kind of laughed it off. I think the best course of action is to release a separate downloadable "pass" which allows you to access the more adult stuff (e.g. partial and tasteful nudity (not hentai dating sim shit), swearing, extreme violence etc. ) This will make it so they can still launch the game with the family friendly rating and marketing but still not censor people's creativity. I don't know though, I would probably rather just not have any of that stuff than to have actual bad stuff (racism, porn etc.) Where kids can be exposed to it.
A mature filter does sound like the best option. Another good option would be to instant ban people who post Mature and x rated content as a deterrent. Of course there still will be troublemakers who doesn't care and break the rules anyway. Just hope nothing to bad will slip through.
Wow! So glad the video started out with almost the douchiest opinions possible! As to imply that "niche" means it can't be popular. Also if it isn't, that would be a shame!
I can only guess this probably has been asked before.. so if anyone knows, can you please tell me if you can import your own textures? if not, you could maybe paint in dreams your own texture? and last, I know it has PSVR support, but would you be able to make the same one game that can be played with and without PSVR ...IE: Resident Evil 7
What's will happen with copyrighted content? What if, for example, someone decides to recreate the original *Super Mario Bros.* in Dreams? Or *Mario 64*...With soundtrack and all... Nintendo would freak out, they'd force Dreams to include a copyright claim system like TH-cam's
Mm will not remove copyrighted material unless asked to do so by the IP holder. They have said to probably just not make anything Disney related and I would suggest the same for Nintendo. However of course these rules only apply if you publish the level, you make anything you want if you keep it to yourself/friends.
My biggest issue with this is as a professional... why would I want to use Dreams? Like, everything's tied to the platform. You can't make any money, all you get is cred and great tooling. So many creators existed for LBP, but that's the thing I feel, they're mostly just people making cool things and people who are very invested in LBP. This is why it is a "game" and not a "game engine" - because sure, you can create games in it - but it's completely gamified to tie you to Dreams. There's mention of some PSN releases or something - but having no access to fix bugs or extend the engine is a huge limitation for developers, so even then I feel I'd basically not trust creating something with a product like that. It'll be a great game none the less. I'll never play it though, no playstation hah!
if you have a 3d printer, you could model something cool in dreams, and then get a 3d printer to then print that thing out. sell it, profit from dreams.
Can you export content from dreams? Is that something they have confirmed? Also that "it's simple" is actually just spec work - so as a professional it makes very little sense. It's great for a hobbyist though!
A child cannot just "play with unity" You can't make music in unity You can't sculpt in unity Dreams is actually a much more complete creative package than unity.
Legality won't be an issue. Nintendo or any other organisations will probably be happy because they would have to worry about these games getting out into the wild, its all controlled by sony, so Nintendo just ask sony and sony can stop it being shared. Normally its much harder to lock down something that infringes, with multiple websites etc and then still you cant get them all.
superawsomemega Thank you. I posed this question (as well as a couple others) on the PS4Dreams subreddit, and tweeted at Mm a link to the thread. I also asked this question in GI’s recent community post on their YT channel, taking questions to ask Mm. Like you say, I don’t think this is a feature in Dreams, but I hope it will be one day.
@@maddoggnick96 Yeah if it is ever added I think it will probably be post launch as an update like online multiplayer. Even without specific features built into games the act of creating stuff could be pretty interactive with streams.
It won't be popular. Until! I make the next big fad game that everyone streams, ill win all the awards and it'll sell millions of copies making me the next God of the indie scene. Dream big or go home.
Really excited for this game, but I feel like the marketing has been poor. I had no idea that this was pretty much the ideas behind LittleBigPlanet taken to the ultimate level, as the stage presentations just made it look like the tools in the game could only be used for sculpting and animating and it didn't help that they showed no gameplay beyond that. If I hadn't bothered listening to interviews about this game, I would have no idea that this is a game right up my alley, much less a proper game itself instead of just some 3D creation tools.

You can link levels together so if one level gets full you can go to the next level seamlessly since the next level loads while you're in the current level
There's no polygons in dreams
Finally I can make the RTS ive been wanting to make since the golden age of RTSs in the 90s
Dreams is the biggest software thing since Windows 3
I was all about the Logic tools in LBP2, and that’s what I want to delve into in Dreams.
A lot of sleepless nights obsessing over dreams
Now see, it's a game engine, or....you can play *Anything* & *Everything* the community makes....let that sink in...
Cool concept, lets see how they implement it
LOL, Little Big Planet in 3d is what Dreams is. People are going to love this MORE than Little Big Planet. You can make short films in this. It's going to be amazing.
I'm buying VR for this game!
Is there a VR specific story mode?
No. All 3 campaigns arent VR specific.
However,I think they will package in a few VR levels/games to help show what's possible.
No
Super excited for this! I know it's not going to explode upon release but it will be more of a slow burn to set the world in fire as new content gets created that interests people.
I don't like the idea of people being able to monetize their creations but I'm all for being able to link your Patreon as a sort of tip jar. "I really enjoyed what you created in Dreams, here's $5, hope to see more from you!"
Locking content behind a pay wall in a game that relies on community creations which you already paid for is not ok!
Well as long as you decide it's not ok for people to profit off their work, then I guess it's not ok.
I guess Media Molecule has no right to put Dreams behind a pay wall either
My question is how realistic can you get the graphics to look? Like if you were making an fps would it have to look slightly cartoony still?
If you take the time you can make stuff look pretty realistic. It's more so about time than if they engine can do it.
Basically I think most stuff will have the cartoony painterly look to it but there will be ways to hack it if you get to know the tools superwell. However probably don't expect something looking like Uncharted.
Check youtube for "PT in dreams"... Pretty realistic
Yeah I'm gonna get lot in this game for sure
I will 100% buy VR for this. Please be a bundle. Pleaaaasssseee.
people make working simple computers in Minecraft. Dreams is gonna BLOW UP!!!!!!
Hopefully the Playstation channel puts a whole bunch of tutorials, for different types of genres, on TH-cam. It'll be a great help for casual users.
There will be tutorials in game, like lbp
They've said there will tens of hours of tutorials in game.
Plus it's the only reason I've kept my PS VR as I'm interested to see what other people make. I've already made a VR game for Dreams on paper.
Theme park rides will be a blast and haunted houses
Definitely Mate, would also like to make my own escape room in VR.
you mean world
windows unlocked pc use to the general public without coding experience, dreams will do the same to cgi for film, game and vr experience design
YEESSS I WANT THIS GAME
oh man i cant wait ive been on tilt brush and medium since day one this thing looks amazing im finally getting a psvr just for this bwahahahahaha so stoked
Will we be able to create our own little characters and use them in other community created worlds? that'd be awesome.
Yes you will
I'm making VR Vehicles. Search that after release my friends
I really think this game could blow up a whole new genre, and if things turn out allright, maybe even change gaming itself as an experience. Especially if it ever arrives on anything else than a Sony system. Or you know. Maybe a new No Man´s Sky type of letdown.
I really just hope it doesnt crash and burn like Little Big Planet 3
closest thing to a PSVR creation tool so far is Recroom
That's my concern, that the game will be an overly complicated second job to just create the most basic of things. There's nothing more demoralising than struggling with the logic stuff.
Luckily it seems a lot of stuff is copy and paste. You want a FPS, or 2D side scroller you just take an already existing one with the basic elements you need and reskin it.
there's chisideps to put om your level logic chips make 2d
chip sets to put on lol
Wow. Imagine a MARIO PARTY type game in Dreams, but ENDLESS MINIGAMES.
Yeah each time a mini game would trigger it drops you into a random multiplayer dream. That's a very good idea.
Excited 😜
Does anyone know how many players are supported in multiplayer?
local multiplayer seems to be 4. Online, it wont be at launch, but he said 8.
Its not for the general audience but think of the memes... think of what people can do with their imaginations
Now its a 2019? Omg 3 years of waiting isnt enough?
HELLYEAH Channel do you want it to be perfect or not?
@@seniorsly yes i do. Do you?
HELLYEAH Channel yes, that’s why 4 years of waiting it’s gonna be worth it!
HELLYEAH Channel Also, a beta is coming next month.
@@seniorsly i hope it is an open beta. Or at least they know who of is are following since the begging
Moooooore!!!
Tool and Dreams 😩
Dont worry guys, i am ana artist. and i will create worlds for you to use for ur games. CANT WAIT!
Can't wait to see them. Hopefully a big creator uses one in popular level. God bless.
I think the best course of action is to release a separate downloadable "pass" which allows you to access the more adult stuff (e.g. partial and tasteful nudity (not hentai dating sim shit), swearing, extreme violence etc. )
This will make it so they can still launch the game with the family friendly rating and marketing but still not censor people's creativity.
Does the beta come out this Tuesday?
no. But that'd be great!
They're referring to the magazine. (:
this is the Only reason I would buy a PS4. ( ...and Castlevania. ; - )
I can only guess this probably has been asked before.. so if anyone knows, can you please tell me if you can import your own textures? if not, you could maybe paint in dreams your own texture? and last, I know it has PSVR support, but would you be able to make the same one game that can be played with and without PSVR ...IE: Resident Evil 7
somebody needs to make a sick mega man x game
So does that mean i can make polygons smash each other if you know i mean 😏😂
Yes,but u can't publish it
I mean, you can publish it elsewhere...if you know what I'm sayin :)
@@magniteproductions3767 if i buy this engine game im going to make a first person exploration game or a survival game one of those two
@@magniteproductions3767 and yes i know what your saying😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏😏
HaHAAAAA! I KNOW WHAT Y'ALL SAYIN ;)
I think it would be cool if you could plug in a 3D printer and print a model sculpture
You can. They've had 3D printing in the mix since the beginning
Well... It's already happened. And nothing happened
guy in yellow looks like a mix of ImAlex and Elon musk
Thomas Ingram there is a bigger chance that people will play your level in dreams, especially if you’re good at it .
if you have a 3d printer, you could model something cool in dreams, and then get a 3d printer to then print that thing out. sell it, profit from dreams.
Can you export content from dreams? Is that something they have confirmed?
Also that "it's simple" is actually just spec work - so as a professional it makes very little sense. It's great for a hobbyist though!
you are a professional of what?
@@jmg24bad game development. I'm currently making a film production pipeline for a game engine though
I just wanna get this game and make shit all day
or you can go play with Unity.
A child cannot just "play with unity"
You can't make music in unity
You can't sculpt in unity
Dreams is actually a much more complete creative package than unity.
Idiot
It should be rated M so we can make whatever we want
But can it run crysis?
Legality won't be an issue. Nintendo or any other organisations will probably be happy because they would have to worry about these games getting out into the wild, its all controlled by sony, so Nintendo just ask sony and sony can stop it being shared. Normally its much harder to lock down something that infringes, with multiple websites etc and then still you cant get them all.
Can you make stream interactive games like TPP
Almost definitely not.
But hey, reach out to Mm and suggest it, you never know.
That would surely help get streamers playing and people interested.
superawsomemega Thank you.
Shut up and take my money.
You can’t make micro transactions or trophy farming games either.
Curse my attatchment to Nintendo, for i may ever get my hands on this game...
It won't be popular.
Until! I make the next big fad game that everyone streams, ill win all the awards and it'll sell millions of copies making me the next God of the indie scene.
Dream big or go home.
I only dislike the controll with a controller
What else are you expecting to use on a ps4? A wii remote?
Sure. Or the wii u game pad....
@@christophm.2623 Keyboard support has been confirmed so u can use that
uhhh this is nice. Thank your for the Info ;D
So essentially Photoshop the video game? 🙄🤷🏻♂️
That javy guy is a big cringefest
when will they show something which isn't a platformer :/
They have. You just have to find it on youtube.
Project spark crying into its soup.
It can't cry, it's dead, been dead for years, it was barely even alive at all.
Wait... so if I make a game in Dreams and complete it I can’t publish the level if I don’t have VR?
no. If you make a PSVR Level you can't publish until you complete the level yourself
You need vr to make vr levels, otherwise we'd just get trollware.
get ready for flashing lights simulator in a VR level you least expect
no you make level that can be completed
What?????
Really excited for this game, but I feel like the marketing has been poor. I had no idea that this was pretty much the ideas behind LittleBigPlanet taken to the ultimate level, as the stage presentations just made it look like the tools in the game could only be used for sculpting and animating and it didn't help that they showed no gameplay beyond that. If I hadn't bothered listening to interviews about this game, I would have no idea that this is a game right up my alley, much less a proper game itself instead of just some 3D creation tools.
Cool concept I would love to get my hands on this for Pc as well
Keenan Constant rip you man, they said they are never ever going to do that
At least one can 'Dream'...
