I didn't even notice. I am learning so many new/different stitches. I've been crocheting off and on since I was a kid in the 70s. Thanks for this great tutorial.
i was intimidated by this stitch before but you explained it so well and clearly that i understood super fast! thank you for this, i'll finally have a wearable bag instead of one with stretched out straps :')
I totally agree with you... I avoided this stitch but today I told myself "if this doesn't help me today, then I am going to buy straps and sew it on this beautiful bag I took soooo long to finish" 😅😂 but now I am happily crocheting my straps 😊 What I did to help myself was put clippie markers in the first or last front/back loop and very happy with the progress 😅 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏻
I want to thank you so very much for explaining this in such a simple way that even my teenager would be able to get it and the reason why I say this is because I'm really dyslexic and it's really hard for me to follow the traditional explanation of how to crochet when it comes to patterns and stuff so I need it to be extra simple and you manage to do that for somebody like me in a big thank you❤
My granny square bag needed a non- stretchy strap. Lucky to have come across this video. Thanks a lot 🙏 I noticed the tightening of the turning chain gives a neater edge on the sides. Everyday I learn something new in crochet! Happy crocheting :)
This was definitely a trust the process stitch for me! I was ready to start over after row 3 but said just keep going you can start over later 😅 now it makes sense! Thank you so much for your explanation!!
i was really struggling with making a strap for my granny square bag and i’m so glad i found your tutorial! you’re so kind and patient with explaining it, thank you so much this was so helpful!
I have never heard of this one! You're right--this would be great for potholders. I used to make thick potholders by holding 3-4 strands of kitchen cotton and doing single crochet but it was hard on my hands. This would be sooo much easier for me, especially since my hands have gotten more painful as I've gotten older. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for sharing this unconventional stitch. I've seen it before, but I couldn't imagine how to make it on my own. Your teaching made it very easy to learn. Your explanations are great. 🌻🌈🌷
tysm! i saw these on Instagram but couldnt find a good tutorial or the video i saved! waaay easier than i thought it was. currently making a strap at work for a crossbody bag :D
This is a great stitch!! I was trying to find what I felt would be the LEAST stretchy stitch to encircle the bag, and continue without stop to be a cross-body strap. I'm making this one from 2 hexi mandalas (actually lined each hexi with an exact duplicate of single color natural color. These have, SO far, turned out incredibly durable made of #2 cotton (or cotton blend, with more cotton than acrylic). The one I use DAILY & pack to the max (12-18#) regularly, I made about 5 years ago and so far not 1 stitch has worn or come 'unhitched'. But I hadn't found a stitch that would resist the inevitible stretch that occurs after years (yes, YEARS) of abusive use! But now I have it!!!! I had never heard of this stitch, but is PERFECT!!! And I AM doubling the #2 yarn, so is stronger and expect to make a duplicate so it is lined as well!! Thank you for a well made video that is going to suit my needs so well! I am ecstatic!! I love making these bags. Very time consuming but well worth it - IF you use QUALITY materials. Brings back the early 1970s bags so many of us carried!!!
Thank you for this. I am finishing a Bible cover for my study Bible and she's a little heavy. But I prefer using it at church rather than the phone app or iPad. But was dreading the straps because I imagined how useless a usual stitch would be. I'm using silk yarn with a strand of nylon shimmer running through, so it's not as stretchy as acrylic, but due to the heaviness of the Bible, I knew it would need something more than the regular stitch. Thank you once again. ❤
This stitch takes up a lot of yarn and it takes forever! It is impossible to pick up any speed! Maybe it's because I am using a smaller sized yarn or something idk. BUT it is what you say it is; a total game changer. So I will definitely be using it again. Just, maybe not for a shoulder bag strap...
It for sure takes a lot of time. There is no getting around that BUT i prefer to take the extra time and have the sturdy strap. Definitely something to do when you have a few hours to spare....
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I love making bags, but I dreaded making the handles. Now I can make as many bags as I want with a sturdy handle like this ❤
great tutorial! I love your commentary and this was so helpful. I made the origami bag by viv crochets and used this to make a sturdy strap. thank you for the help!
Is there a way to easily crochet this strap as you create the bag rather than sewing it on at the end? I love the stitch, and you are blissfully easy to follow! TIA
I think there are many options. You could just attach your yarn to the same number of stitches where you would like your handle. You could also find a d ring and a bag toggle (is that what its called??) And attach it using hardware. I also thought if you have a bag that is 2 panels, you could do a very long strap that would act as a channel between the two and continue up to be handles...i am going to give that a try next 😁
I personally would finish off the starting colour and attach the new colour with a slip knot. You can just add the new colour as you go but it will make a jog where the colour change occurs i think
@@KalebieNez i don't have this item anymore. I already used it. I would line up the place you want to sew it to and go through the loops. I will try to make a video on how to do this soon.
Very clear tutorial but… Quick question, is it possible to do this exact same stitch while changing colors every 2 rows to make a colorful stripes effect? If so, how would you do it? (Can you make a video about it/ reply to this comment on how?)
I am not entirely sure....you could add a second colour and carry it/pick up every other row. I would not cut and add each time. I will give it a whirl and see how it works
@@MrsStewartCC @kvargas5495 I make my bags using a total of 4 mandalas, 2 with mandala pattern & 2 made exactly to stitch numbers in original pattern in a single LIGHT color, for the lining. I stitch into 2 'discs'. Then create a band that encircles as much of the bag I want (leaving enough space NOT attached to the band as necessary in order to not stress the attached areas when reaching into bag to locate items). I begin attaching the band, initially, at least a couple of inches one way or the other from dead center bottom to relieve full weight of bag contents which would heaviest at center bottom - you wouldn't want a seam at that vulnerable spot. I then begin attaching the band to the bag at the other end of the opening space I had decided upon. And, do the same with disc #2, on the other side of the band! That also provides the depth to the bag that you would want, 3-4 cm. Just my method, discovered through trial and error!!!
Would you recommend using a smaller crochet hook? So I'm using a 6mm hook with chunky yarn (6mm was the recommended hook) for the bag. Would it be best to use a 5mm hook to do the strap with the same yarn, or stick to the 6mm hook?

I made my strap by double threading a single crochet! It’s thick and sturdy just like the thermal stitch
