- Just to make it clear - the video and the audio do not match/sync. I made the video by taking some video and merge it with Prime Time from the New Years Eve show. Hope you like it anyway, even though the video quality is bad...
For me Rossington Collins Band is one of the greatest bands to ever have played and made music, and it's a shame they got so little time. Dale Krantz' voice was (is) a killer, and she gave the band a certain personality and style which I love greatly.
Prime Time is a very, very, very good song by Rossington Collins Band, and this version played at The Omni was not an exception. This show was broadcast nationwide on the radio, and the setlist for the night was:
Prime Time
Opportunity
Misery Loves Company
One Good Man
Winners & Losers
Getaway
Three Times As Bad
Don't Misunderstand Me
Sometimes You Can Put It Out
Freebird
A great numbers of songs.
I'm not sure, but I guess there are two recordings of the show; one with a better sound quality than the other. But then again; on the one with the lesser quality you can hear much more of the audience, and they were over the top this night. If you can get a hold of one of these recordings - please do it!! It's the best show by them that I've heard, and I have quite a few of them now...
Rossington Collins Band are:
Dale Krantz (later Dale Krantz-Rossington) - Vocals
Gary Rossington - Guitar
Allen Collins - Guitar
Barry Harwood - Guitar, Vocals
Billy Powell - Keyboards
Derek Hess - Drums / Percussion
Leon Wilkeson - Bass Guitar
Loved this band and her voice is insanely good .
Was great to hear they regrouped and came back. Dale is/was outstanding in her vocals. Yes, we were ready to see the BIG Boys. No disappointment at all in their choices. Just more awesome Rock and Roll! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
It was Skynyrd with a female vocalist and I loved it! The band deserved more love than they got back in the day. When I heard them at 15 in 80’ I could not get enough of them. Dale had and has a killer voice. Disrespected by the 80’s and that’s a shame.🎶
Skynyrd was a band I truly identified with in the 70's. Howvwer, I'm honestly surprised the Rossington Collins Band did not go over nearly as well. They should have. They had the same talented music writing machine with an outstanding lady singer upfront. She carried it. They rocked and regardless of obvious comparison to Skynyrd by everyone, they should have been received much better for their work!!! Great fucking band!
The music was great, the lyrics not so much. I recall at the time a friend telling me "I'm tired of listening to Dale Krantz's problems." I tend to agree. The first tour was very well attended, the second was not. I think the Skynyrd fans wanted to believe but the female singer wasn't really doing it for many people. On the night I saw them in '81, the band wasn't happening. Something was up with Allen Collins. He wasn't moving around at all and at the end of the show he just tossed his guitar, luckily it was caught by a roadie. I recall on the first tour 38 Special opened for RCB. They pretty much took the night. What a band back when they were still up and coming.
Geez Greg, Allen lost his wife and unborn child in 1980. He just wasn't the same after that.
Wasn't the same without Ronnie out front. The band sounded great to me...awfully lot like skynyrd here, never heard this one before.
I just don't like the vocals. Her voice just does nothing for me
@@jamestate5059 I completely agree. They should have begged Paul Rodgers or Jimmy Hall to join the group. I get why they chose a female singer to replace Ronnie, but I don’t think it went over well with true fans of Skynyrd’s music.
I was 2 months old! Now I’m 42 and here listening to these legends! ❤️ So thankful God made Skynyrd and this band after the tragedy.
I saw this band 3 times and I truly loved 'em!!! Great songwriting--such a fresh approach to southern rock at the time!! God bless everyone ever connected with this music!!
I only got to see them once and I would have seen them again if work had t gotten in the way back then.👍🏻
Please don't worry about the vid here ! ANY footage of ANY quality is a rare treat, and the audio is A1. Thanx and good job :) Dave.
Yes ! We’ll take what we can get and be very thankful for it 👍👍👍👍👍👍
RCB was a force in their own right....their 2 albums were awesome....totally underrated. I saw them in Santa Monica, CA at the Civic in 1979? I was still in HS and I graduated in 79 and the last song they played was Freebird without lyrics. The amps went out halfway during the show. Ominous to say the least. I can't remember which person came to the mic and said, "I think someone is telling us something" We then drove off to the hills of Pacific Palisades and smoke big fat ones overlooking the lights of LA and reminised about Skynyrd. Damn I miss those days.
Saw the same show in Chattanooga , same year graduating, good times
I was there at Santa Monica and right when the guitar solo started they kicked the mic stand over that was upfront for Ronnie, then the power went out, they took a break for a minute came back out and went right back into the solo then power went out again, they got pissed off and left the stage and the lights came on...concert over
Great band. First concert I ever went to -- at a small theater in NJ in 1981. I loved Skynyrd with all my heart but was too young to ever see them live. By the time I knew who they were, they were gone. Had to beg and cry to get my parents to let me go to this show. They went with me to keep an eye on things. I had both the RCB albums and really loved the music. I think Dale Krantz wrote great hooks and had great spirit. Barry Harwood was a fine picker and singer. Sure, I missed Artimus, but I caught up with him years later. So happy I got to experience this band in person. It had only been four short years since the demise of LS. On top of their enormous talent as live musicians, one thing that sticks out in my memory is the amazing stage presence they all had. And here I am, all these years later. God bless em all and all of you too. -s
i saw their first gig at the great southern music hall in orlando. we had no idea what to expect for the new vocalist. they kept it a secret from the general public. was very pleasantly surprised.
when they came to phx on their first tour, it was one of the greatest memories of my entire life, seeing my hero's, Allen and Gary picking right in front of us again. The opening band was called Russia or something like that and they barely got 2 or 3 notes out and the crowd booed and started throwing things at them and they ran for their lives. The whole night was magic and i get chills thinking about it. RCB was a great band. I miss you Allen, you were the best.
I was 17 or 18 back in the mid 60's when my band played a gig in East L.A. The crowd didn't want to hear Hendrix or Cream and began throwing stuff at us. I got hit in the head with a lime and our lead singer nearly got beaned by a beer bottle. Didn't take too long to get the hell out of there. Looking back I guess it was just part of paying our dues.
80? 81?
At the civic plaza.
I was there!
Freebird for the encore, spotlight on the microphone. Nobody singing but I heard every word.
@@nickrobinson7283 damn!! That’s a messed up crowd!
Yeah kinda but things are more screwed up these days. Looking back we should have never booked the gig.
good stuff...why am I getting chills...I guess my mortality fighting with the years goin by so fast since this was new ...yet still unaged and timeless like yesterday.
I saw them in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1980 and I was even closer than this film...just the memories of seeing those Skynyrd guys is something I'll never forget and what a great album they were touring under.
I’m jealous! I wasn’t born til late 1980 and I’d trade my years to go back to see them live!
Saw them twice, and they blew me away.......Wish they would have kept going.....Very thankful I got to see them......
Knew Jawsy doe knot deserve free They is Bad Company. 😂🤞
What an awesome damn band. Dale Krantz Good God that lady was born to sing with this band better yet they had the same fire and spirit as LS. Couldn't have gotten any better than this.
I LOVE HER VOICE, ENERGY AND FLAT OUT BEAUTIFUL ⚘🎤
I saw them two nights in a row at Sunrise Musical Center in south Fl on this tour. Free bird as the encore without lyrics was hauntingly powerful.
They could have searched forever and not found a better "frontman" than Dale. She was the complete package for RCB. Musically she helped push the band in new directions and gave them just what they needed to make this such a successful project.
Going with a female lead singer was a stroke of genius which truly set them apart from Lynyrd Skynyrd - which was the whole point of it. Regardless of what they called themselves, the comparisons to RVZ would have been inevitable for any man that took on that role. Going with a woman essentially eliminated that uncomfortable scenario, and allowed them to truly become a "new" band, despite essentially being the old band with a new singer. I don't think anyone ever saw Dale Krantz as RVZ's "replacement".
great voice and pretty besides!
@@ddt3831 it’s just a damn shame what happened to Allen’s wife and then to Allen. It was one of the worst things I ever heard happening to anyone.
@@robert.m4676Yeah, they had a rough time of it. Unfortunately, it seems to be par for the course for most Southern Rockers for whatever reason :(
Phil: your statement cannot be disputed
Thank you for posting this film footage.I've seen rcb 3 times The first time great. The second Allen threw his guitar into the crowd. And walked off.The third They opened for C.D.B.They all had beard's Looked liked like hell.Just worn out.I think allen collins is one of the the most underated guitar players of all time.
Allen was so full of energy...the Spark! and Barry Lee Harwood...what talent, his playing was on par with Ed's in my book and he sang and wrote really well.
Wow! From when Atlanta was Atlanta!
This is good no, great stuff. I'm getting chills also...Collins rocking out and vintage Gary before he sold out.
What a cheap shot lmmfao at you cheap people
Saw in Knoxville TN, was back at the back but still felt the energy. Thought I was seeing and hearing the reincarnation of Janis herself! Blew me away!!!
Saw them in Cleveland, front row off to the right side. Loved it. Got a guitar pick from Gary, but that was lost long ago. Along with great photos.
What a blast from the pass. So glad to hear this tune again. It has played in my mind for a long time. And darn thing about it all I could not get the name off my tongue who played it. I Knew but just could not get my memory in track. Thanks to a poster who had this band posted.
I was there too! So miss those days- per my friend's Dad connections we had backstage and front row for everything. Miss those days and wish I had the tickets that showed $11.00
Amazing! Video of the Rossington Collins Band! I love Dale Krantz. She is up there with my other two female vocalists Grace Slick and Patti Smith!
AMEN TO THAT ! 🎤
Thanks for posting! Any R-C Band footage is welcome! I was lucky enough to meet Mr. Collins in Mpls. during their 1981 show!
💔💔 rest in peace, Gary Rossington
I knew there was some good footage of RCB out there ...thanks for letting this out to the public....
I think Gary wore that same jacket in Nashville ...wow bringing back some memories... and they kept telling us there was no footage of RCB anywhere...thanks for this video you guys!!!!
Proof that some exist and there probably is more out there....
got to work for these guys for a few shows......it was Skynyrd minus Ronnie....but it was pure Skynyrd
I was there. Mother's Finest rocked as well. Radio station re-played the Kinks NYC Palladium show for the ride home to Dunwoody. Still my favorite New Years Eve's ever
Had the pleasure of seeing RCB twice. Thanks so very much for posting this rare footage
Will never forget the feeloing when the boys walked on the Boston Orpheum theater stage for 1st tour. It was earth shattering ovation. Allen smiled all nite in awe of the constant roar of the crowd.
You should have been at Volunteer Jam at Municipal Auditorium when Charlie Daniels welcomed them on stage AFTER the crash and BEFORE RCB. Some of them still had casts on, it was the very first time any of them took the stage after the crash. First time they played Freebird with the mike stand out there with Ronnie's hat on it, as an instrumental. Now THAT was intense, the crowd was next level. Look that up.
42 years ago let that set in
I saw them in 1980 in Springfield Ma what a concert that was !
I Was at this concert had a great time !
A spectacular song, and an equally great live recording of it.
Frikken' powerhouse right here, that's all.
All these guys had to be brothers, because they hung together as long as they could in all these bands, sure miss them all 🙏
Great Footage !! Miss you Gary my Friend.
Loved this band...never saw them live. Dale Krantz...loved the energy she had and her voice :-)
Got to see them once. Great band. Gary Rossington doesn't get the credit he deserves as a guitarist.
They were awesome and 20 minute. Freebird
I was there! First concert I ever went to. Mother's Finest opened.
Now THIS is what I call ringing in the NEW YEAR in style!!!
Oh,yeah!! I drove from Virginia to Atlanta to visit a friend and see this concert!! After warning him no to light up yet ,and wait for the lights to go down, he did it anyway and got busted. I sat alone with nothing to get high on and he spent the show in a locked room somewhere..
Saw them live , was awesome, didn’t realize at the time what I was seeing in history
Love her she rocks
Outstanding!! 🤩
1/2 dozen young men standing in the front row at the old Milwaukee Auditorium for the opening act, Henry Paul Band. Then absolutely knocked out by 3 things: a) Allen and Gary in front of us, b) this blues shouter Dale, and c) Barry Harwood getting the solo right away on Prime Time. He stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the big boys - - and sang, too. Good gravy, what a band.
I for one, think you did an AWESOME JOB with this video. Thanks for sharing it. Dale sure could GO!!!
I was there that New year's Eve I was lucky enough to retrieve a drum stick and one of the band members handed down a red Solo cup of champagne after the new year came in with a bang celebration 81 is what it was called I had no idea it was filmed I wish I could see the whole show
i havn't seen any live videos of them
thank you
Thank you so much for this rare video, please upload the entire concert !!!!! Keeping the memory alive !!!!!! God bless them all !!!
Gotta say - good video; thanks Pure Rock N Roll, btw - it's simply incredible that after such terrible injuries, Gary and Allen could do ANYTHING. Much less something this accomplished. Not that Billy too, wasn't hurt.
WILD THING ..thanks for the share.
kickass. band.aint heard them in years.
very good and rare thanks
This was the first and only I've ever seen Allen on a Stratocaster
Plenty of footage of him playing a Strat in Skynyrd
Great Band. Dale is excellent. In recent years I learned of a band called Vinegar Joe. Elkie Brooks and Dale have similar roots.
one Badass Band
Love the Life you Live
The audio comes through clearly and that's all that really matters, to me anyway. I was supposed to see them in Pa and they broke up, for understandably good reasons and so I never got to catch them live. I'm Free Today is my favorite song by them.
Awesome show at Paramount Northwest in Seattle. They had two tour busses parked outside with airplanes painted on them
thanks so much for posting this treasure!
Wow, seems like yesterday state of mind. The good days when he had a lot of peace in this area of the world. Maybe some intense feeling due to the cold war and nuclear deals but neve the less pretty peaceful. It was so great to see this band. It was not the second coming of Skynyrd though. Great to see Allan enjoying himself. Unfortunately not long after this it came to an and for one and a new beginning for the rest. So it's bit of a blessing and a curse scenario. Nice video thanks.
right on this rocks....peace....
WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT ME AND SOME FRIENDS JUST LOOKED AT EACH OTHER WE KNEW WHO THIS IS AND YELLED OUT THERE BACK THAT WAS IN 1979 NEVER MIND THE DIFFERENT VOICE WE JUST KNEW .
This was a departure from Skynyrd. Thestory I heard was, they wanted something different, but similar. In MY HUMBLE OPINION, Dale was AMAZING. SHE HAD THE BALLS OF A MAN! When Allen wasn't wasted he was on top of his game. Gary was the ultimate professional and Barry Harwood filled the gap that Steve left......The only thing I missed ( besides Ronnie)was Artimus....For that period, I though he was one of the worlds best drummers. ON my first date w my future wife, I drove from NY to MD, picked her up, and drove to Fla, and listened to one cassette all the way down, GUESS WHICH ONE, RCB.........
"Gary was the Ultimate Professional" His Drug and Alcohol use was the reason they wrote " that smell" the words "oak tree your in my way" was about him on Quaaludes and Whiskey.. He never really got sober/clean until after Allen Collins and Billy Powell both died.. I had the pleasure of talking with him over lunch on the Simpleman Cruise.
Thank you sir..hmm, guess who beat out Artimus and Charlie Watts in a feature Modern Drummer article..take one guess and go take another listen..
Thank you..DH
I saw rcb on both tours 80 and 81 both were great and allen Collins rocked on freebird who his t shirt that said whos rossington that he had on.great band.
Nice playlist
3 people hit dislike...wtf!!!??? geez this is history film!!!!
It was nice to see some of the survivors from that ill fated plane crash Skynyrd was in just 3 years ago, back on stage doing what they loved. Goes to show just how amazing Skynyrd really was or is, cos they came back from it all & played some GREAT music. This video alone, can attest to that. They are simply AMAZING!!! What a great video. Thanks for posting it up. GREAT JOB!!!
Excellent
@valleydreamin
hey, i was there and a friend has the whole show on vhs, back when they did the "next best thing" after concerts in atlanta. i went to the show and a friend stayed home and taped it. still have the tour program too. a lot of memories
18 minute freebird was awe
Dynamite comes in small packages... as this voice explodes
Great video, even if the video and sound aren't matched up. Very cool seeing this band in action.
So good
AC my all time favorite siure would of thunk rcb would of been huge only goes 2 show works that came from Ronnies noggin pure gold not jus 1 or 2 hits everything came out of Ronnie & his boys God bless em all r.i.p. brothers
RIP,,,,,AWESOME
To those who doubt Dale, just try and remember the time....The family was all to hell..They wan't to stick to it somehow- but didn't too...They knew each other -Dale lived down the road a ways. Everybody partied together back then if you were cool. When she sang- right away she just turned it loose- didn't have to try to be a Van Zandt, and nailed everything out of the gate, and the band went from "WTF are we gonna do/" to this is gonna be great. If you saw them with her-you saw it. If you want to stand back and throw rocks-you ain't got a clue....Don't compare the two styles, they changed "in the wind"...
i was at a newyear eves party and this came on live from this concert westwood 1 radio and i was the only one who knew who they were i was soo drunk i had the whole house jumping around to this and i kinew nobody there except the girl i came with and the guy i worked with who had the party when i left they dragged me back in they all became lovers of this new band and some forgot about the crash the album went gold but the second didnot have allen collins so it went by the wayside but i got it anyways
Please upload the rest of this concert! That'd be awesome!
Dale was a backing singer for 38 Special, You can see and hear why Gary married her!! Great voice.Having a chick sing lead was a challenge for the band and for her which paid off.
she is something special
Yes, he recovered from the injuries he sustained in the air crash, He was later involved in a car crash in 1986 which left him paralyzed. Always missed.
Allen looks happy...
Michael Luther The footage was from before his wife died, i think.
Yeah, this was June 1980.
They were fantastic in concert. I try to find ANY footage and material of this band ♥
Reminds of smoking some dubes with friends, was a great era
This band rocks my wife grow up with Steve &Castle in Miami ok bring your band to BRANDED,MO. we need good rock & roll and good internet a show like this would be as big as any country or rock show in town I would say come on down but well you know how it is come no up P,P,P. of Branded,Mo.
Band are steamin
The best band ever , lynyrd skynyrd too , I LOVE ITTTTTTTTTTT
Epic voice
hey was this the newyears eve show i was at a party listening to this and i was the only one who knew who it was at first nobody believed me except for one girl who heard them introduce them as rosington collens band and for the encore they left a open mike no singing just a light remembering ronnie and the rest doing freebird then people knew who they were
I saw them in Indianapolis on this tour and it was a fantastic show! I think the problem was all the weight and baggage they carried which overall they never recovered from.
I wonder why there is so few videos of RCB on TH-cam, they were a great band
Well it's prime time
You got to shake off those work man blues
Said it's prime time
You better put on your dancin' shoes
'Cause they're alive and well and ready
Are you ready for the great big boys
We're alive and well and ready
Are you ready for the real McCoy
I know I said, are you ready
Well it's gonna be a good, good time
How I love when the sun goes down
And it's the best time, yes it is
Hey I got the best news around
Yes they're alive and well and ready
Are you ready for the great big boys
We're alive and well and we're ready
Are you ready for the real McCoy
Oh no I ain't talkin' 'bout no bad boys
Are you ready for the real McCoy
Oh yes, yes, yes
It's been a long, long, long time
But we still know the games you're playin'
And now it's prime time yeah
Hey hey I think you know what I'm sayin'
Said we're alive and well and ready
Ooh are you ready for the great big boys
We're alive and well and we're ready
Are you ready for the real McCoy
Oh of course I am talkin' 'bout the big boys
Are you ready for the real McCoy, yeah
Ah-ha wow
From the band, for me one time, bring it on, ooh
Yeah, I'm here to tell you
They are alive and well
And I believe we are ready
Are you ready for the real McCoy
Are you ready for the big boys
Hey yeah, ooh
Are you ready, yeah

I wish i had this and This Is The Way '81
Tour plus The Allen Collins Band live
from '83,'84 all on a 2 DVD Video Set.
I miss the Omni.
プライムタイムのライブとは、珍しい!。
I seen them at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, N.Y. On the 80' tour. Very big deal at the time especially since I was a huge southern rock fan. Don't remember a girl singer ( obviously there was one.). She's no Bonnie Bramlett and not my first choice but competent I suppose. What I do remember is when they played "Freebird" at the end of the show there was no singer. Just a lone spotlight on the microphone stand until the jam started.
Saw them play here in Jax, the cops kicked me out for smoking a doobee.. I bought another tix and snuk back in!!
locved he rvoice love it
There is nothing wrong with the lady singing but to answer a lot of your questions this band needed a male singer
