This is my device and I am very pleased with the job Alex and his daughter did. Extremely happy with Northridge Fix and I was tickled to see it on TH-cam.
I love how bluntly honest this brilliant lad is even when he makes an on-screen mistake live on camera. Most content creators only leave the 'perfect' shots..
Can you test a SSD hard drive? It's a Samsung 480gb roughly. Computer just didn't recognize one day when the laptop booted up. Lost over 400GB of OS, data, etc. It's sat a few years and would love to be able to get it up and running.
Maybe someone already asked for this, but it'll be great if you could show your meter readings so we can see what you see while probing the components. A successful and satisfying repair as always, another lesson I learned sir... thank you
maybe because they do it in the line of work, repair, not for actually making videos.. making videos like that may take a long time while there are more things to do
4.31am and I'm watching this. I got so happy seeing you fixing someone's hard drive 🙂 I'm always so excited seeing you fixed something 😄. Keep up the great videos ❤ You have an awesome team and we are glad as real subscribers can be part of your team 😃🙏🏻
Very common problem with hard drives, this is a TVS diode that protects the drive from too high voltage. What happens very often is users put the drive in an external enclosure and use the wrong power brick. Don't use a laptop charger to power your external HDD folks!
I got an old external HDD that died so I removed the enclosure and plugged the actual hard drive into my computer.....it was recognized, but could see no data (my theory is the MFT and the like are prolly stored on the controller card thats in the enclosure) so good 1st obstacle overcome I turned it off and came back in a day or two with some recovery software and the drive isnt recognized...not in windows not in the bios, nowhere but it powers up, but the computer cant see it .....so, whats up with that?
Congratulations to your family, I had also some episodes with my daughter and her help with soldering some parts! Who knows maybe she could be the leader in popularization repairs in younger generations! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
It's funny when you use different probes on each end. You always make me happy seeing that smile and I can hear your wife shouted with joy in the background. Good job my brother.
Family first. Nice to see she want to take after her dad. Love how we can hear your wife in the back. Always a happy 😊 when you say consider job done before you have done it.
thanks sir.. got some HDD same no spinning 1 year ago try measure what u did in video and viola got work take part from donor board.. big respect fro indonesia 🙏
I've got a bunch of hard drives laying around that I want to wipe before recycling. This channel looks like it can help in that regard. Thanks! Stay safe.
Clicking is mechanical - this won't fix that. Don't power the drive. It's possible that the arm is stuck/not able to park. The non-spinning one go ahead. Seagate drives often have the TVS diodes blow.
I had to laugh when you had the probes mixed up. I have been there. If you didn't say a thing, most everyone would have never known. I was 5 when I was first let into my grandads business. I swept the floor for a quarter. 60 years later, I am retired in the winter home I bought along the way of 40 years of work. God speed to your daughter that she becomes an important part of your business.

Easy and clear...👍 good job thanks i learn always something New. You are really a lucky man,and most important a proud father . Cheers from 🇨🇵 to the great family team specialy to that young Lady.
I always tap my continuity probes together to hear the beep before I test anything, too many times I've left it in voltage or resistance without looking and thought that I found the problem.
Northridge fix you are the best because you like your job and your happiness is when you arrive fix something i know your happiness is not money your happiness is when proof your knowledge to yourself and to the world that's why when you fix something i see your face with smiling
Great job! In most cases, data recovery companies would try to swap the PCB, and see if it works, but you, down to component level. I bet you save that persons money in recovery.
@@oliwek70 Newer hard drives have more circuitry. Specifically a BIOS that contains all of the information on drive geometry, firmware, and other important information about the drive. You can't simply swap the board from one drive to another, even if they are identical model. Theoretically you can simply swap the BIOS chip to a replacement board, but I've not had much luck with that.
Great job, great fix. Nice. Well 1:29 it seems that it's time to take a break and go on vacation😂 just a joke, small mistake It is so nice toe hear that your daughter will help you, you have a really great family. You are the hero for your daughter👍 greets
When you take the boards off of the drives, what do you do with the drive platters, heads, and chassis? I have been in the data recovery business for 40 years and if you are just going to toss the components, we could take them off of your hands
I once had a customer (name withheld) that called our office and said their system wouldn't boot up. They powered it down each night at the close of business. ( I went over and I could hear that the drive did not spin up. I said I needed to replace the drive, and their response was that they did NOT have a backup. Just in case it was a sticky bearing, or a tired motor that couldn't get past the stiction of startup, I gave the case a spin as someone else turned it on, and lo and behold, it booted up just fine, they did a full backup, THEN I replaced the drive and all was hunky dorey. ;)
enjoy the video. Damn i loved it. Wish i can get my sisters hdd working again. The recovery company wants $1300. i think im gonna check its chips first before i give it to the company. I bought several of the same drive from ebay.
Its always better to replace that diode, but the drive will work if you simply remove it. It will work with out that protection obviously, but it will work.
I make a habit of touching my probes together when I pick up my probes for continuity mode. Saves you from an unplugged or damaged probe, or this scenario.
A few years ago now I started to have a problem with my Seagate 2 TB drive, I hooked it up in it's old case and plugged it in, it started to smoke. I found the culprit ufortunately soldering/desoldering isn't going to do the job. How can I check if and what component is the reason for the mothorboard to smoke? And If I can get a replacement board, what to watch for?The chip and series are the same?Once I managed to save a HD Not sure if I replace the mobo the drive will be usable. Any help much appreciated since I have some files on it with my mom that passed.
i had the same issue with my wd 1tb hdd which is not in warranty, thoroughly checked all the shorts and found the same diode shorted out and replace the same. but still not spining . please help me out .
Well done man really good job! I have a HDD that is spinning and the PC picks it up but I can't get in to the HDD when I click on the drive It is as if it is loading but nothing happens. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Ohh this is great, but unfortunately I got my 2,5 Inch Drive dropped from my desk (from 70cm from ground) and land so hard. I managed to safe/backup them 1/4 of the files but the rest is still stuck. Any advice where should I bring the drive to repair it? It's still spinning but bad sector due the impact

I made this mistake. That means replacing this kind of chip could save my drive?
@@WunjoxFlo i did the same but with the charger that's came with the external case
Can I just brigde the TVS Diode? Will it Work?
@@Sackface225 No, a diode is like a check valve. Current flows only in one direction and not the other.

this is informative. i have some drives that are either clicking, or not spinning at all. gonna try this soon.
Clicking is mechanical - this won't fix that. Don't power the drive. It's possible that the arm is stuck/not able to park.
The non-spinning one go ahead. Seagate drives often have the TVS diodes blow.
Clicking sounds means it is physically damaged there's nothing you can do to fix that
Correct. Will use clicking one as donor boards.

When you remove the boards you should label them with the details of the drives it came from because of the firmware.
