For any who come to this tutorial from bedrock this design works but you do need a layer of solid blocks above the farm to block the light I recommend 4-7 blocks above the farm and ~5 blocks wider than the farm to get the light level to 0 in the farm. Adjust size larger if you don't think it's large enough.
I’ve been playing Minecraft for over 10 years now and finally decided to give Skyblock a try a few weeks ago. This is the mob farm I’m using-the first one I’ve ever built that doesn’t rely on a spawner! I think I may have built it sideways, but the proportions are the same, and I’m currently watching the killing chamber fill up with mobs. Thanks so much for the tutorial!
Hey I just seen your command block video that was uploaded 5 years ago I left a comment and I clicked onto your channel to see if you were still active and yes .... thanks for the tutorials. I'll subscribe
Hello, thanks for the tutorial, it works great! I thought it was a little confusing, I've had to watch it many times over to understand what I'm supposed to be doing. Even building in creative mode first, I still struggled a bit. I have some constructive criticism. I find it would've been helpful to see the end product first, then a brief overview of what we're building and the dimensions we need at a glance (chute and chambers in particular). Other than that, once I built a couple and got the idea, it was an easy and simple design to work with. I do appreciate showing how to build it in survival. Thanks!
I spent 1.5 hours mining afk cobblestone, made 4 stacks of stairs, 6 stacks of slabs, stack of ladders, and 32 torches. AS IM WALKING TO FINALLY START IT I GOT CAUGHT UP LOOKING DOWN AT THE VID, AND FELL OFF MY 3 WIDE BRIDGE SOMEHOW TO THE VOID BRUHHHHH 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@Aykhan_edits presumably only one water block and they'd rather use it for the cobble gen. Though if one wanted they probably could use a single water block for both a basic farm of the classic design and a cobble gen. Seems like it'd be annoying though.
Great job bud. FYI you can go 21 and the mobs be a one hit kill and since I play all your skyock maps I've had lots of practice to perfect it for those precious iron ingots lol. I have a feeling your coming out with a new map using the blossom as the starter tree lol. Love to see it be quest based with a few rewards for getting your first piece of iron ect. Enjoying the series as well. However spiders come in handy for string which is very much needed if you don't have grass to spawn sheep. I don't mind the spiders contained vs phantoms lol
For bedrock you have to repleace the stairs and others non full blocks, with wood planks. Non full blocks let the light pass in bedrock, and the mobs doesnt spawn.
How about if you extend the roof out another 12 blocks or so in every direction? Not sure exactly how far out it would need to be, but seems like that should block the light from being able to go into the sides.
@@Lea_D. The issue is that the farm relies on mob path-finding. When a Mob decides to wander, it makes 3 attempts to locate a full block (not half slab or stairs) within a 15 block radius, and then tries to get as close as it can. It's why mobs tend to wander towards the walls of canyons. The more full blocks you have in your roof, the greater the odds that a mob will attempt to wander towards that point, which does not lead the mob to the trapdoor. Java will let bottom slabs and stairs block light, while bedrock does not. 1 solution might be to build the roof from full blocks, out 12 more blocks as you say (i think only 7 is necessary, but i don't recall), at 18 blocks above the spawn platform, so its out of their block selection range, but still provides the necessary shade.
@@jarrod752 Sounds like something to experiment with in a creative world to figure out how high up and how far out it should be to solve the transparent stairs problem. Going 7 blocks out used to be enough, before they lowered the light level to 0 required for spawning, so that's why I was thinking it might need to be 12 or even 15 blocks out now. The extra roof extension also helps with pack spawning (not sure if that applies to bedrock).
See using trapdoors is actually better entirely. Some mob farms use only trapdoors and blocks. Slabs, actually mobs will spawn on them if the block is up meaning regular top height of a block the opposite of it is lower and mobs would not spawn on it. Constructing it out of trapdoors is not that cheap but it still is a good way. (If u have only 1 water source u have enough.
at 7.21 the first pstair wall you made was only actually 12 while the alternate are 11, so do you want the mob spawning floor at 12 or 13, because the stairs start one block higher than the block you place
I do wish it worked on Bedrock. I'm currently running around in a trench every night bashing at mob legs. After many hours of play, I've gotten one potato, one carrot, some almost dead enchanted bows and armour, one iron shovel, and one iron ingot. ONE. Six more to go. I have the bucket because I cheated and put a bucket of lava in the bonus chest. I do eventually want cobblestone...
Have you tried the funnel mob farm? It's an older farm we used back in the day in the nether, it also worked topside, not as good as the water type but it still worked great. GG!
6:05 Confounds me beyond reckoning as I follow along. Am I placing planks as he is where he is on the layer he is, or is he talking one layer lower, or am I placing stairs in the layer he's placing planks on but only where the two spaces where the vertical shaft is going? I'm so unbelievably confused.
I'm pretty sure building this at 13 height is not going to spawn anything on the first few levels of the farm, as mobs only spawn between minimum 24, and a maximum 128 blocks vertical radius from the player. Depending where you decide to build your afk area.
I know i'm not the creator, but I do not believe so. Skeletons have the same spawning conditions as zombies. Creepers are a bit shorter, so there is a way to make only those spawn, but not a way to make them spawn.
are the 85% of mobs supposed to just stay on the platforms inside and only few drop? because i followed the built 100% with every block and only few mobs drop down and majority just chill on all layers not moving
Had it built up before I noticed you mentioned it only works in java 😩. Been trying to run your ilmango inspired skyblock map lately and still can’t seem to find a good working waterless mob farm.
see if making a layer of solid blocks above it (about 4 blocks away from the roof and 7 block farther than the edge) to create a dark spot may work there are other farm types that use the roof idea but this is the only farm that uses slabs. i think its mainly a light issue as slabs (and possibly stairs) let light through. im going to be testing this myself soon.
because mobs look for full blocks to head it to, and stairs don't count as full blocks. It's also why you have to make that box of planks, so that the mobs can path find it to and fall into the hole.
Done the farm like the one ilmango did, 20 block height, mob die with one hit, but they spawn very less compared to ilmango and yours, what am I doing wrong???

does it work on paper software? and on multiplayer servers

3:00 bats do not count against hostile mob caps afaik
Whats the reason for using stairs instead of blocks?
hey dan, i built the farm but its not spawning mobs? what could i have done wrong?

really usefull
This doesn't seem to work for me in 1.20.4, I've been waiting for 20minutes and still no spawn
I've tested a few mob farms and you have to be 24 block down from the mob spawn location.
can endermen spawn in this farm?
How far should you stand
is there a version for bedrock?
How good does it work?
Can you use stone for this mob farm (stone stairs /slabs)
Yes, any type on stair/slab combo would be fine yes.
:)
So if you had a cobble generator you could make a cheaper one with a stone cutter but you can't get one in your superflat though
is there a version of this mob farm that will work for 1.19 ?
It’ll work, I just wanted to mimic my farm from series that’s all…
Not for mcpe or bedrock edition
Total item haw many can any tell
In superflat you don't get that much wood ir it would take soooo long to get
does it works in a normal survival
does it works on 1.16?
can this be built in 1.13?
