The HF guys have been asked more than once who the best singer in the group is; without fail, everybody else immediately points at Rob. 😉 Now you know why! Rob actually has a college degree in Vocal Performance with an emphasis/area in Opera. His voice teachers (one of whom I know personally) tried to talk him into going professional, but Rob felt he didn't have the discipline necessary and took a different route (and we are all SO blessed he did!). He did this aria for his Dad who hadn't heard him sing opera in 15 yrs and it brought him to tears. 😭 Austin turned out a very respectable performance, too! He has a lighter, more head resonant voice (where Rob's is more chest resonant). His college major was also Vocal Performance, but with an emphasis in Musical Theater. His vocals are more of a lyrical tenor style which makes his part sound more like a great "crossover". It's actually gaining in popularity amid younger opera lovers. Rob was trained in the classical style as a heroic/operatic tenor. I know they were both nervous about how their fans would receive this. They shouldn't have worried! ❤🎶😳🤯 It hushed a few people who thought they were "just country singers" as if that's somehow a lesser accolade. Lol This performance proved their serious training and ability to sing whatever they choose! 😉👍 Trivia tidbit: Adam Rupp (vocal percussion/co-founder of HF) has a degree in Trumpet Performance! He also plays keyboard, drums, and bass guitar. He's adept at musical arrangement (when the holidays roll around, check out Home Free doing his arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" It'll blow your mind!). He has a naturally sweet high tenor voice and is a master at harmonizing anything! Tim, who impresses us with his 5 octave range, has pointed out that Adam probably has the widest range in the group! He can soar with gorgeous descant high notes and that "harmonica" he does is actually his voice, just distorted to create the sound effect! Then he can drop the bass freakishly low, as well. That guy isn't human! Lol When God was handing out talent, these 5 guys snuck back into line a few times!! 🤯😉😁

You stated the talent of Home Free very well. One of my favorites (I have many) of Home Free videos is, as you mentioned, "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Adam did an absolutely amazing job in that arrangement. The frozen scenery and imagery is incredible, also, in this video.

YES!!! This dropping today was THE best surprise ever!! SO damn happy you two reacted to this!! I'm sure some of the Homefries have commented this already, but as the story goes, Rob was initially reluctant to do this. Austin had to convince him. After Rob was done with his recording, Austin was apparently so blown away by Rob's opera vocals that he went back and re-recorded his part. They absolutely KILLED this and your reactions just made this amazing performance that much better! AJ called it with the harmonization. As Ogre said, that's actually not normally done in Nessun Dorma, but it showed off their flawless blend and just WORKED!! And for not being opera fans, the appreciation you two showed for the sheer talent and skill on display here was awesome to see! Great job as always, guys!

After playing lead in several of his high school productions, Brown went on to pursue a degree in music theater. His first post-college gig was singing on cruise ships, which sent him around the world - but more importantly, led him to Home Free. Rob most definitely has a talented Opera voice, and Austin is no slacker. Yes, Austin asked Rob to do this. Rob was hesitant, as he had not sung opera in over a decade. He was also worried about how it would go over with the fans. Well, no worries, as it was a SMASH HIT! Most Home Fries had the same look on their faces that both of you had. Astonished! Really enjoyed your reactions to this. I've watched this several times and seen several reactors who are opera singers react to this who have followed them on Home Free and were just as amazed as you guys were. I am not a big opera fan either but have come to love this piece sung by Rob and Austin. I especially enjoy watching how surprised Home Free fans are hearing Rob and Austin "try" to sing opera. Home Fries have always said that they can sing any genre of music and this proves it. Looking forward to your next reaction.
OMG....this was by far...the best reaction to this video I've seen yet...the look on your faces at the beginning was priceless! This just shows...there is absolutely nothing these guys cant sing!
Y'all (especially AJ!) have been Rob-smacked! Excellent reaction. And I second the suggestions for Austin's Bring Him Home and HF'S Do You Hear What I Hear.
Great reaction! This just shows how talented and versatile Home Free is. Rob was trained in opera in college, and Austin was trained in musical theatre. Every reaction I have seen from professional singers, especially trained in opera, all commented immediately that it was very obvious Rob had opera training. A great reaction to Austin is 'Bring Him Home' from Les Miserable. It's on his channel. Broadway is Austin's wheelhouse. Tim's channel is amazing where he shows his 5 octave range. The talent of the guys on Home Free is amazing!
When this first came out, I didn’t pay much attention, waited about a week to watch it only after EVERYBODY was recommending it. I’ve been a Home Fry for years. I was shocked. They had me crying by the end. Those guys just cannot make bad music of any kind. Great reaction! 😊
Pretty dang awesome though, huh, guys? Austin talked Rob into this, but Rob would only do it if Austin joined him. They practised in separate places, and when Austin heard Rob....he went back and worked on it some more. Great, huh?
Its like Austin really wanted to do this for the longest time, and finaly got a chance to. But he know he couldn't do it alone and convinced Rob to dust off his old past that he thought he left behind. Then Rob said ok, but I'm not embarssing myself to the people who know what to listen for on the high notes. He knew how limited his operatic skills are because he has the knowledge and education to know better. (Reverse Dunning Krueger Effect). So he said to Austin YOU do that and I'll back you up on the lower notes. Rob will fill out the skills base so Austin can shine.
Rob is a dramatic tenor, richer with a lot of depth. Austin is a lyric tenor, lighter soaring. My dad had a degree in vocal performance and sang mostly oratorio and opera. He was a lyric, transitioned into dramatic when he was in his 70s, but never lost that soaring quality. His last professional performance was at 92.
Loved your shocked reaction guys. This came out a year ago this month and all of us Home Fries pretty much reacted pretty much as you did in your reaction. I never get tired of watching this video. These guys are just so talented.
Austin has been trying to get Rob to sing Opera for awhile. The only way he would do it is if Austin would do it with him. Rob is Opera trained. And is a Tenor. Austin is classical trained. As in stage musicals And is High Tenor that's why Austin sings higher then Rob. Great reaction guys.
In their normal songs, I find that Austin's tenor parts can drown out Rob's lighter tenor. In this one, it is completely reversed. At the end, Rob's voice is just overpowering Austin's.
@@DRHHUBI believe Austin reined back his own voice because he really wanted to showcase Rob's abilities in this performance. He had to talk Rob into doing this opera performance in the first place.
@@barbarakennedy2667 Rob wanted to be an opera singer. Austin couldn't drown out Rob in opera. He was trained in classical not even close to opera. But this was the only way that Rob would do it was for Austin to join him.
Rob seriously blew my mind with this! They sound fantastic but I just couldn't get past Rob's voice to absorb it all, lol. I've watched this probably a hundred times cause it's just so good. Amazing! ❤
You will see fans say "Oh, there's Opera Rob!" at different times. His training allows him to be incredibly versatile. The Adam Chance-written original for the video game "Skull & Bones" also takes advantage of all of their respective talents in some new ways. Rob is quite clear: this will not be performed live at a Home Free concert. The warmups for it are antithetical to performing country acapella. He enjoyed it greatly, and there may be more like it in the future, but he doesn't see returning to opera on any regular basis. Also, have to give a shoutout to to Steven Martinez, who provided all of the instrumental. (I feel like Austin looks like he should be playing Don Giovanni in the Mozart opera)
Peter Barber is a fellow reactor and he's also done interviews with Geoff and Tim on his channel. He does reactions and analyses of videos, many of them from Home Free and VoicePlay. He's a professional opera singer and is also a member of a four-man group called The Bass Gang. They invited Tim Foust to join them for an a cappella rendition of Hooked On a Feeling, last made public in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy. Peter hadn't seen the finished product when he did a reaction/analysis of it. That one is so fun to watch and the music video itself is a total treasure. It's a total hoot that, at that point the 4 members of The Bass Gang had never met face to face. They'd send their part of a video to their arranger from the Czech Republic, Egypt, and 2 US states. They are fantastic!
Second best reaction I've seen to this video. Your expressions were priceless lol. The best reaction was from a Italian opera singer/reactor who said she not only forgot they weren't opera singers but she forgot they weren't Italian. Rob's vocal coach said he could have a HUGE career in opera. Thank God he joined Home Free!!!!
Hearing this for the first time when it came out, it made me rethink many of my life choices lol and question deep-seated beliefs! I have never, however, doubted the talent that is contained within Home Free!
In an interview with Patrol Gaming, Austin said that he'd really wanted to show off "opera Rob"; however, Rob said he wouldn't unless Austin sang it with him. Austin went on to say he thought he'd been okay but that Rob was fantastic. I love the way they support each other. They're both classically trained but Rob was extensively trained in opera (Austin had training in it; however, his degree is in Musical Theater).
Such a treat! But seriously, Rob sounds like a different artist than we hear when he sings with Home Free! I don't care for opera, but these two "tried" and did what I didn't expect--they made me want to watch it over and over again. Who knew? 🤭
the late, great Pavarotti ( R.I.P.) says....."you better sing, boys!" -- btw Nessun Dorma means "no one sleeps" and this aria is sung by all the great and near great operatic vocalists.......originally composed for one male voice, though female artists have also sung this beautiful piece of music........
Rob is university classically/operatically trained. It had just been 15 years since he had sung in that genera. Austin is university theatrically trained. So they both have vocal training from a university. Same with the great Basso Profundo, Avi Kaplan, formerly the bass for Pentatonix. He had recently graduated with a vocal degree from a university in California. He had already received a letter of intent to hire him as their Principle Bass from the L.A. Opera House when he got a call from Scott Hoying needing a bass for a new A Capella group forming for the NBC A Capella sing off. Avi had to make a spur of the moment decision and chose the newly forming group or Opera. He chose the new group. He remained with Pentatonix for 6 years before beginning his solo career. He now writes and sings Americana/Folk, Country and Western music. Avi Kaplan Full Moon (Kaplan) th-cam.com/video/0IOXovCH9eE/w-d-xo.html You never know what someone's musical training background is.
They were so good. You are right, Rob studied opera in college but that was years ago. He’s a tenor and was so good. Austin has Musical theater training but was also good. He would be considered a lyric tenor. They clean up nice don’t they?! Great reaction boys!😍
Opera Rob majored in vocal performance in college, and did a lot of opera. This was a real shocker for fans! Austin studied musical theater in college. Here he sounds like Austin singing an aria. Rob sounds like a completely different voice!
I'm wondering WHY you guys haven't popped up in my recommended before now (for Home Free!)!?! And YES, we were/are ALL taken-aback by these 2 KILLING IT!!!! And STILL - So Damn Good!!! ---- YES, Elizabeth (The Charismatic Voice) is amazing .......... and have you watched any of her performances??? She is REALLY something to APPRECIATE ... You would NOT believe the POWER that comes from that woman!!!! (I'm Country btw, always have been) : ) Be Safe
SURPRISE !! This is so great..Robs the one who has had some training in Opera and Austin had Theatrical training. It’s not too often, but at times when two people are singing together to, take a queue, as you say from one another so they stay in unison with each other. That’s what Austin did. That’s a really hard Opera to sing alone, much less to sing in a duet.
Opera singers reacting to themselves must be a thing. Peter Barber does the same thing when he sings with The Bass Gang. You should check out The Bass Gang with Tim Foust from Home Free, Hooked on a Feeling.
This is wow, wow and again wow. It is insane and extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great. But Rob, I'm perplexed. His voice is just magical and so rich Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. He will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers 5 times and more in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..
In fact, Austin's college training included the same training and auditions for the college shows as the opera kids. This was not the first time he sang opera. He was asked to study opera, presumably because his teachers recognised that in the modern opera world a voice like his was worth a fortune - an opinion echoed by a reactor with a great deal of experience in the field of opera. The difference between Rob's and Austin's voices has absolutely nothing to do with training but with the basic physiology of their vocal organs. With further training, Austin still wouldn't be operating with the fully dropped larynx that Rob employs but would remain a brilliant lyric tenor with a great incisive edge to the voice. Rob has a lovely voice but of a type for which there is less demand these days, as it's not so useful for the range of music a singer would expect to cover. The Italian operas for which such voices were produced are less popular now, and for most modern composers they sound too "produced" for contemporary music. Lyric tenors also have more openings in classical song (very popular in the UK) and oratorio, and can move into musicals. Btw Austin is the high tenor of Home Free. Not sure where you got the idea that Rob is normally singing higher.
Great reaction! I just subscribed. Looking forward to more Home Free from you. I had to watch this Aria multiple times to make sure I was actually hearing what i thought i was.
This was Pavoratti’s signature aria. It was Austin’s idea getting Rob to sing opera…but, he’d only do it….if Austin sang With him 🙃‼️💗…. &, they really did pretty darned well …. Loved it 💗🙃💗‼️… Austin trained in musical theatre…just a small amount of opera in uni.
Austin is using the wider mouth shape that is used in both country and pop music. If he had chosen to sing with the rounded mouth shape that Rob was using, which, of course, is the operatic style used to project the voice forward and out over a full orchestra, Austin's voice would stand with any tenor opera singer.
Actually it was all Austin's idea and he had to convince Rob to do it. Rob was classically (opera) in college. Austin was a musical theater major college but also trained classically later on. They both were very nervous about this during the premier. Rob is the lead tenor which is the lower tenor and Austin is the sky high tenor. I really enjoyed watching your reactions to this song. You two made me laugh so much.
Lord your faces say it all! I also love Elizabeth in the Charismatic Voice. I watched Peter Barber's analysis. My first opera was when I was 16 and in Rome. They were doing Aida staged in the ruins of the Roman Baths. Stage was large enough for 2 horse-drawn chariots to run around. I had no idea what the translation was, but I did tuck that treasure into my brain and I still appreciate opera and more especially operettas. In English - None shall sleep, None shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, In your cold room, Watch the stars, That tremble with love And with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, My name no one shall know, No... no... On your mouth, I will tell it, When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!
The depth of Rob’s voice in this was a surprise to most of this. Austin still sounds like Austin. Which is beautiful. But Rob! This is Opera Rob!!! You can hear hints in some HF live performances. Most notably in their live performance of “Skull and Bones”. Who knew. I’m glad you guys checked it out. Your reaction is a reflection of many of ours.
I have listened to these guys sing in Home Free several times and despite the horrible Country genre was able to recognize that they were great vocalists. But this... 😍😍😍😍 OMG, this was so amazing. I had no idea that they were this great. Some of the best Metal vocalists practise opera or are classically trained.🌹🌹❤️🔥🌹🌹Dan Vasc being one of them. The lead singer in Nightwish is the same. LOL🥹🤣😂🤣 You guys are so hilarious.🤣😂😎😂🤣 Thank you for this.🤘❤️🤘 🥰🥰🥰Hugs from Canada🇨🇦
This is so awesome! Home Free can do anything! I’m not sure why you think Rob has the higher voice between the two of them; Austin almost always sings the higher notes and is usually introduced as the high tenor. I just discovered you so I am a new sub but a long time Home Fry. Awesome reaction! If you haven’t listened to Home Free’s cover of When A Man Loves A Woman yet (I looked through your playlist and didn’t see it), you will hear Austin’s high notes and it will blow your mind. Thanks again for a great reaction!

These guys, and I mean all of Home Free, can sing anything. ANYTHING!! I bet they could sing the phone book and it would be epic.
Great, huh?
Amazing!
That not the way I heard it. Austin wanted Rob to do it. And he wouldn't unless Austin did it with him.
They wanted Austin to train for opera when he was in college. But he stayed in theater music
I still applaud and yell BRAVO! Rob is classic trained in opera, Austin trained in theater. Rob's dad cried when he did this.
Your reaction is PRICELESS! How much do we love our boys!!!! Home Fry for life! 🤠🤠
This broke everyone and you guys did not disappoint. Great job guys
don’t know anyone who’s jaw didn’t hit the floor when listening to this ❤🏴
Hehe, yall had THAT face! Love it!
This is total shock n’ awe! I wish your two missing buds could have been in on it. Maybe a repeat?
We did it purposely just the two of us because we are the fans playfully fighting over who we think the better tenor is.
It makes me cry every time I hear them sing this! Great reaction!
Your faces were priceless 🤣😂
All guys in Home Free have various music degrees. I think Rob trained in opera for about 10 years. They both did so awesome! Loved yalls faces!
Home Free is like a box of chocolates…. you never know what you’re gonna get! 😮 Really enjoyed your reactions. ❤❤❤
Thank you
You said it this is Austin's channel and this is his way of highlighting Rob's talent.
Evidently Austin heard Rob’s track and promptly recut his.
Skull and Bones is on our list!
Shock & awe guys, shock & awe😮
We Home Fries live for this type of reaction😊😊😊
"Ya think ya know a guy" - best comment ever😂😂
From what I've read, Austin wanted Rob to sing this song, and Rob agreed only if Austin would do it with him.
U go Rob and Austin!!! The talent from HF is unmatched!
The GREATEST A-Capella Group
EVERRR!! Any song they sing is pure perfection!
Fun reaction guys!😂🎶
Now you see how talented these guys are. Austin is a "high tenor". While Rob is a tenor.
It wasn't until the very last time they sang together that they harmonized. The first two times they were singing in unison.
Austin is frequently identified as the "high tenor" and Rob is usually called the "lead tenor" or just "tenor"
This was so very awesome. Rob and Austin killed this! Love your reactions!
Hearing this for the first time when it came out, it made me rethink many of my life choices lol and question deep-seated beliefs! I have never, however, doubted the talent that is contained within Home Free!
#HOMEFREE...can sing anything!
Nessun Dorma is an aria from Puccini's opera "Turandot" (it's in Italian, an English translation is available on the 'net).
Whenever anyone asks The Guys whom is the best singer, they always instantly say Rob! 😂. Completely loved you guys reaction! 😂❤❤❤❤
Austin trained in musical theatre. Rob received opera training. It shows on both of them.
I had to watch your reactions twice!
It’s like AJ said you think you know a guy!! Talent in spades 😊
😁

You never know what someone's musical training background is.
They were so good. You are right, Rob studied opera in college but that was years ago. He’s a tenor and was so good. Austin has Musical theater training but was also good. He would be considered a lyric tenor. They clean up nice don’t they?! Great reaction boys!😍
Your reaction to this was everything! Rob and Austin killed it!
They need to do more opera - they are superb.
I've said it before home free can sing ANY genre!!! great reaction gentlemen! 😍
Opera Rob majored in vocal performance in college, and did a lot of opera. This was a real shocker for fans! Austin studied musical theater in college. Here he sounds like Austin singing an aria. Rob sounds like a completely different voice!
Fantastic reaction. I enjoyed seeing your totally shocked faces.
I love you guys! What a great reaction! Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
Every since they, release this video, I have seen the same face of surprise, enjoyment, amazement and gents you didn't let me down. Nice reaction 🖖🏾👊🏾
They Sound Amazing ❤
If you haven't already check out Austin's cover of Bring him Home
Yes please!
Opera singers reacting to themselves must be a thing. Peter Barber does the same thing when he sings with The Bass Gang. You should check out The Bass Gang with Tim Foust from Home Free, Hooked on a Feeling.
It's magic. Luciano would have been proud of them. I read that Austin bugged Rob until he would do this. They did very well with this.
Rob was trained in opera 😊❤
This is wow, wow and again wow. It is insane and extremely good. Fantastic. Both are doing great.
But Rob, I'm perplexed. His voice is just magical and so rich Chills just ran through my body. It flows into my heart. He will be able to stand with the greatest of opera singers. It's not often that I listen to songs by opera singers 5 times and more in a row. But here it is. Of course I hope that both will always continue to do Home Free, but I wouldn't think it wrong that such "trips" are made more often. Opera, country, ballads, soul etc. I think anything is possible..
You have to realize that the boys from Home Free are very adaptable.
The eye widening 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It is fitting that AJ likes Rob as he is from Minnesota and a big fan of the Vikings 😊
Thanks for subbing! We have some other HF reaction videos currently on our channel and we intend to do more!
Austin after hearing Rob did his part over.
Love Home Free. Loved your reaction. Subscribed.
They never quit surprising us!! Love this and live your reaction!! ❤
Thank you so much!!
Great job, guys! Fun to see your reaction.
In English -
None shall sleep,
None shall sleep!
Even you, oh Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
And with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
My name no one shall know,
No... no...
On your mouth, I will tell it,
When the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve
the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name
and we must, alas, die.)
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win!
I will win!
I will win!
This reaction was so much fun to watch!!
They are so talented ❤
Your reaction to this was priceless.
I say there's no try about it, they DID it. These notes and octaves don't hurt my ears. Very smooth. Loved your reactions guys.
buahahaha, just after you did a reaction on Diana doing quasy opera performance all of sudden you get these guys, brilliant!😁
Great reaction to a great performance!
You got it, AJ!
LOL🥹🤣😂🤣 You guys are so hilarious.🤣😂😎😂🤣
Thank you for this.🤘❤️🤘
🥰🥰🥰Hugs from Canada🇨🇦
Same for Dan Vasc, he is a metal singer and clearly knows how to sing opera. He does Nessun Dorma as well
David Draiman, Sound Of Silence as well
@@annelieshoornikLOL. I did not check for replies but decided to change my comment because they reacted to Dan.🤣😂You must have sent psychic vibes😂🤣😂
@@Rkbmomma You are so correct. 40 years ago I thought that about Metal and Opera too.❤️
@@dotwyness4110 The best cover of Sound of Silence, that I've never heard, was by Marcel Marceau...
I heard that Austin when he heard the track with Rob, went back and redid his part. Great reaction.
Thank you!
Well...that was really fun guys! Thanks for your reaction!
