I just got a Mexican oregano (Lippia!) at shop that carries plants - end of the season and it caught my eye!! I am in Oregon (zone 8) and have its 'cousin' Lemon verbena in a big pot that's come through several winters, hoping it will as well!
Hello! Very informative video. Could you plz make a detailed video on Ornamental Oregano please especially on its propagation and light and temperature requirement. Couldn't find anything on TH-cam. Thank you.
Mexican Oregano (Lippia graveolens), which is in Verbena family (verbenaceae) instead of Mint family (lamiaceae) is my favorite. I use it in homemade chili powder and taco seasoning.
The last plant is Vicks plant not Cuban oregano. People get them confused all the time. I don't understand why? They look nothing a like and taste completely different. Cuban oregano is much biggers with faltter leaves. Vicks plant shouldn't be used for cooking. Vciks plant (plectranthus tomentosa) and Cuban oregano (Coleus amboinicus or Plectranthus amboinicus)
It is possible to extract oil from Cuban Oregano, but the oil yield is relatively low, and the oil is not commonly used in the fragrance or flavor industry. To extract oil from Cuban Oregano, you would need to harvest the leaves and stems of the plant, dry them, and then steam distill them. The resulting oil is typically pale yellow to brown in color, with a strong, spicy aroma similar to oregano.
Thank you so much for telling us the 5 types of oregano
