And as for towel rubbing do I need to rub when it’s wet or dry? And do salt spray do I need to spray first n then rub or rub it dry n then spray? Pls answer my questions I’m in two weeks in but nothing improved😢

    So with this method, do you need sea salt everytime you rub the hair or not at all if u dont want to?
    And I didn't really get the washing count, once a week? With or without schampoo? Sorry for my english, and I would be very happy if you would answer soon! I want my dreads too look exactly like yours in 1 year update :D

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      RihoGaming so not you don't need the sea salt. You spray that every two to three day on depending how it feels. Rub everyday at the beginning. Until your happy and cut down as you feel the dreads are coming along. Wash every week or two at the beginning depending on how bad you need to.

      Invest in a good hair dryer. I sit with it for a few hours after towel drying my locs. my locs are to my waist so shouldnt take that long for you but if you're dedicated you'll need to make a habit of it You don't want any moisture staying in your hair, could lead to mould.

      Hobbsy just let it stick up. It will look bad and messy and people will stare at you but in the end they'll look amazing. Even if you do twist and rip or back comb they will stick up for awhile anyway. All dreads stick up then there new I guess

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im not sure sorry. Mine started in one mass but the more I rubbed the more little dreads would appire. I did not tie mine up at the start as I could not really. The set I have now I only rubber for a week then let them dread them selfs for the rest of the time. if there was some that I thought would be too thick then I would seperate by hand by pulling apart.

    • @99hank97
      @99hank97 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Knottytrent okay I’ll try give it more time and focus on separating the locked strands from each other as opposed to de-clumping the whole mass. Don’t suppose you have any tips for separating the strands as I can normally only seem to do it by pulling almost singular strands of hair at a time. Thanks for your help and reply, love you vids x

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr_ Eyeless you would just rub the hair you want to dread up. Try and separate the sides when you do it u less it's short hair.

    I heard that your supposed to rub it clock wise because that's the direction your hair grows

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      x-chetito XIII I have not heard of that before but it will work both ways as if you rub anti clockwise then there should be more friction? I’m not sure I’m just going with what worked for me. Thanks though I will look in to it :)

    Hey i really Love Your dreads i also want to get myself dreads in the future(my hair is still too short) and i really like the results of the rubbing technique but i do have really thin and straight hair so my fear is that they will fall apart before they get the chance to lock while showering so my question is whether thats true or not and if i should consider another method to start my dreadlock journey? Greetings from Germany Lorenzo

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lorenzo Schröter it should work over time but will take longer. There lots of methods that would work better. You should research back combing, crochet hook or maybe twist and rip. These should stay in so your hair should stay in dreads :). Good luck. By all means try the rubbing method and let me know how it goes. :).

    • @lorenzoschroter1230

    can i just use my hands?

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could but you would get less friction and the process would take longer. Plus the salt spray would not get in to the fibers of the towel and then each time you used it you would not get the benefit of a salty towel

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      x-chetito XIII yeah I don't see why not. As long as your rubbing it should be fine. Just make sure your sponge is not going to fall apart and get in to your dreads.

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      kodubbe just until your happy yes. I did mine for a week then left them ever since. First time I did this method I rubber for three months then rubbed on loose hair. It's up to you really where to and when and how long. Until you like it! :)

    • @kodubbe
      @kodubbe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Connor Trent right on. if it will just continuously lock up the dreads then I'm all about this method! I just don't want to be counter productive and rub loose something that was already locked up. thanks for your response man

      Diegolink it depends on your hair type if you have thunk curly hair then quicker than fine long hair. It also depend if hiw long you rub for be a week like me or 5 months.

  • @TallFrenchy
    @TallFrenchy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    how long shud i do that for ? im going on my third month this month

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tall Frenchy You could stop now and let them finish them self if you want to. I would not over rub otherwise you will start you join up the dreads that have formed with others unless you want that. You can focus rubbing on parts of the head that has more loose hair.

    • @TallFrenchy
      @TallFrenchy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Connor Trent it’s just the back of my head I got a lot of loose hair so they fell out but I guess just let it be and should I make a video of my dread update and then u can see it and tell me if I shuf keep rubbing

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      make a video for you not me. Then you can see your progress. You just need to be patient brothey will come just maybe spray twice a week with salt spray, wear wooly hats that helps loose hair get pulled in. if you don't want any loose hair you should get a crochet hook and tuck in. but they will only get better in time :)

    • @Knottytrent
      @Knottytrent  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No only when I wash them. If its a really nice day and they are itchy I will rinse them with water and massage my scalp under the shower with means I can postpone a wash for a week. If I can't dry them I will just wait till my next wash.

      Lint is the fluff you get off your towel and gets stuck in your dreads
