what you've done here is very worthwhile and informative - thankyou! I''m a big fan of ralfy and now I can tell I need to start watching your videos too
I just sampled both Finlandia and Sobieski. I'd have to say that Finlandia is softer and a touch sweeter than Sobieski. But if you like a little burn in your vodkas, Sobieski wouldn't be a bad choice. Cheers!
You definitely should try Debowa Oak Vodka (PL). It has very surprising taste I think. And it's got amazing wooden packaging so you can not only taste the oak but also feel it :)
Hey liquorhound, do you use ice or whisky stones (max or reg size) to chill your vodka? Although I don't get the same flavor profiles you do (though I'm new to vodka) I use your reviews to pick out new ones as I do like the clean, low alcohol, no/little burn ones. Thanks for your vids!
Yeah, I'd love to get his opinion on it too. Purity is the best I've tried. He should be able to pick up on all the complexities of the flavor profile.
Dry Fly vodka is a must try. Distilled from 100% local winter wheat in Washington, it has a medium body, slight burn, but a big butterscotch and vanilla smell and taste.
Knowledgeable, precise, variety, and obvious care. Mad respect...needs better production. Mic and setting maybe? Getting too much audio fuzz and some weird cross shadowing.
Yeah, I know my early videos weren’t of the best quality, but over the last 5-7 years I’ve upgraded my camera, lighting, and audio to improve the production. 👍 Thanks for watching and cheers!
I would suggest joss vodka made in Nebraska .If this is your hobby order a bottle .small distillers offer a micro spirit indicative of post prohibition liberties
Glad to see a review on the Reyka. I bought some in Iceland when I was on layover while coming back from tour in Iraq back in 2009. Still sitting in my cabinet unopened. Always been curious concerning what it would taste like. I plan to crack into it the day I leave the Army for good ;)
top three favs from most expensive to cheapest. 1.stoli elite 2.crystal skull vodka 3.reyka but reyka for the win because of how great it taste compared to price point.
titos is made of corn while rain is made of white corn which is sweeter and creamier and I agree titos is a great mixer goes with anything very well; it doesn't have alot of flavor though. btw if you have had brekingridge's vodka what did you think?
Thanks for the comment response! I was also wondering if you've ever tried Kai vodka. It might be difficult to find its more common to hawaii or asian countries like japan and china. Its distilled from rice and has a very nice almost oily or silky texture to it, because of the gluten in the rice. Its also got some interesting flavors ive never really had in most vodkas. definitely worth trying if you can find it.
Ive heard some people say that there is not much difference in flavor between stolichnaya's regular vodka and their stolichnaya elit. I'm not sure if I agree but would like your opinion. na zdrowie!
I watched a bunch of your videos. Very informative! Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I would like to ask you 3 questions. 1. What is your ALL TIME favorite vodka (Price doesn't matter)? 2. What is your favorite vodka for under $40? 3. What is your favorite vodka for under $40 that are readily available in metropolitan bars/clubs? I prefer recommendations with low ethanol notes at the end. Thank you ahead in advance!
+James Leduc - My all time favorite is Kauffman Luxury Private Collection "Vintage 2000". My favorite under $40 is probably Moscow Gold "Black Diamond Edition" (the White Gold "Black Edition" was a close 2nd). My "favorite" that's usually available in all bars/clubs and restaurants is usually Ciroc, but I'd rather hope to see Sobieski, Imperia (or any Russian Standard), Rain, Stolichnaya and then I guess Svedka, Tito's and Monopolowa. Cheers!
which vodka do you prefer the most from those? could you elaborate about the best 3? grey goose stoli elit jean marc xo sobieski svedka van gogh ciroc belvedre chopin ketel one and which one from those: finlandia smirnoff absolut russian standard stolichnaya khortytsa ? thanks! :)
I really enjoy your videos! But my all times favorite vodkas are missing from your list, and I am quite suprised, Have you tried Ultimat or U'luvka ( poland), Xellent (swiss) and Cavalli ( Italy)? , Or are these not available in the US? In any case, if you do get your hands on them I'd like to get your review, because these are 4 of the best testing vodkas in the world in my opinion ( and I drink a lot of vodka:)!)
Thanks for the suggestions! In my area, only the Ultimat is available (and I do have it). I'll have to see about getting the others and include them on my next Vodka Taste Test video. Cheers!
ok, I see! Sorry I didn't see the Ultimat in your review, so what do you think of it? Personnaly I drink it neat, as i see it as a waste in cocktail mixes. Cheers!
Sir, you seem like an expert in the regards of alcohol, so I'm asking you: Absolut vs. Finlandia? I think Finlandia is better, but I haven't tasted Absolut yet. Now, I wanna know the difference between the flavoured ones. Thanks
This is really awesome! Thanks for the great research. Question for ya, do you get a little drunk sipping all of these in a video? Also, what is your top 3 favorite sipping vodkas? Thanks, man!
+Timothy Buhler - I could feel a little something back when I was doing that many in a video. For that reason, and to be more precise, is why I started backing the numbers down. Now I only do like 6-8 at a time. My top 3 sippers are Kauffman Luxury Private Collection, Jewel of Russia Ultra, and Beluga Gold Line. If wanted to keep the prices reasonable and answer that same question, I'd say maybe Jean Marc XO, Moscow Gold "Black Diamond Edition", and White Gold "Black Edition". Cheers!
thanks for producing such informative videos. i would point out that it is a little curious that you kept detecting less alcohol from each successive sample as you nosed the american made vodkas. seems like this could easily be attributed to your nose gaining a tolerance for he ethanol.
I must say though, the Prairie organic is amazing... So smooth and no heat. I just tried Rain and Titos today. Rain is also very nice and so is the Titos, but I agree with you; Titos has some heat afterwards that I dislike in a sipper. Hopefully I can get my hands on some Enchanted Rock some time!
I mostly drink belaya berezka, thoughts on that? I like it because Russian vodkas have a lot of fight to them, which I don't like since it's a relaxing drink for me, but belezka chilled very smooth and light.
I really appreciate the broad comparison. Personally, I enjoy potato vodkas. I hope you’ll do a comparison of the more obscure Polish and Russian potato vodkas.
+David Swygert - I haven't had any sugarcane based vodkas, but as long as it's distilled to more than 95% abv it is a neutral spirit (and no longer a rum) and can be sold as a vodka. I'd imagine they'd taste very similar to American made grain/corn based vodka since the U.S. government regulation states them to be "neutral spirits, so distilled, or so treated after distillation with charcoal or other materials, as to be without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color." That said, we all know the US distillers don't want their vodkas to all be identical, so they all leave their own character in their spirits and hence some American made vodkas taste much different than others (see Dry Fly, Smooth Ambler or Soft Tail as great examples). So it's possible a sugarcane based vodka may be a touch sweeter than a grain based US made vodka (but that's a "may be"). Cheers!
Maybe a redundant question but Vodka is something that has always eluded me. Why is Tito's Handmade so hyped and award winning, yet based upon your review (as I realize you're a pro), it seems to be lack luster and run of the mill?
+Matt S - I don't find Tito's offensive, but it is fairly standard in my opinion. As for the multiple awards, perhaps the bottles given to the competitions are chosen a bit more carefully. Cheers!
+LiquorHound - Ah I See. Didn't think about that. I chose Dry Fly (from another one of your reviews). It was for a friend for Christmas, who bought me my favorite spirit: BOURBAN. I chose very carefully as he is very particular. Nothing like getting a gift that gets poured down the drain. Thanks and have a great year ahead.
i know its kind of a budget bottle, but what can you say about skyy vodka? say in comparison to absolut? I vaguely remember hating it before but have read some good stuff about it.
+chrt222 - If you're mixing, either Skyy or Absolut is fine. If you're sipping, for just a tiny bit more (or in the case of Rokk & Exclusiv 1, actually less), there's a few that pop to mind that I think you should look into. Try the bottles/brands of Russian Standard (including Imperia), Sobieski, Moscow Gold, Enchanted Rock, Charbay, White Gold or even Ciroc and Rain. Cheers!
Sir LiquorHound may i ask a question...what is the most cheapest Vodka the is best used in mixing...ofcourse i want it's taste to be very very unnoticible but i want it to be high in alcohol content too sir
Well for extract you want it neutral but also higher abv. I believe I’d try Svedka 100 proof since it’s not too expensive. You could also do Smirnoff 100, but I’d still go with the other first. Cheers!
I dont drink alot but when I do ..I want an educated choice and not throw away my money ..looks like Rokk will be my choice ..thanks for the educational and no mumbo jumbo explanation!!
May I ask for advice on vodkas? There are skyy, russian standard, smirnoff, puschkin, Gorbatschow, finlandia, moskovskaya, parliament and absolute, which are in my price class and available where I live (Germany). Which one of these would you pick? And if I would buy one expensive bottle, should I go for belvedere or grey goose (or another one, which isn't more expensive than them) and do you think they are worth it?
+Davok - I've never seen or had the Puschkin, Gorbatschow, Parliment or the Moskovskay. Of the rest, I'd choose Russian Standard and then Finlandia as my top two. Cheers!
You seem from Germany, those are the brands i see there! Russian standart and finlandia are GREAT and parliament is also really good (especially for its price class!) stay away from smirnoff and gorbatschow!
jtulner37 I am from Germany, thank you for your recommendations, I really like Russian Standard, but havn't tried parliament yet, probably going to change soon though.
***** I often bootleg parliament to Netherlands (where i live) and its sooo smooth cause its milk filtrated, its actually suprisingly good for its money and it originate from moscow =) have you ever tryed vodka 360? I will open a bottle of 360 tonight from germany... it says diamond filtered.. havent tryed it since a while and cant remember if it was good! I let you know =)
Well Reyka is what I consider a more flavorful vodka so you might not enjoy Double Cross as much. Have you tried Jean Marc XO, White Gold - Black Edition, or Belvedere's 80 proof "Intense - Unfiltered Diamond Rye" (not the 100 proof version)? I'd think those would be closer to what you're already enjoying in Reyka. Cheers!
I'm just going to go ahead & get this question out there; let me just say that I'm a value, best bang for my buck, 1.75 L bottle purchaser & am curious of your opinion of the following 7: Smirnoff corn, New Amsterdam grains, Wyborowa rye, Skyy grains, Stolichnaya regular grains (wheat & rye, not Elit), the rest of the unflavored you covered here, in fact 8-11 of the 16 here, 3 on your other videos, but of the flavored, there are only 2 brands & 2 flavors each, also, both sets at 80 proof, & those are KetelOne Oranje / Citroen & Absolute Citron / Mandarin; or their regular unflavored ones, thanks, by the way, what's your real name & where you from? Oh these additional 13 too: Burnett's Effen, Three Olives, Luksusowa, Pinnacle, Exclusiv, Deep Eddy, American Anthem, Boru, Breckenridge, Tanqueray Sterling, Death's Door, if there are certain ones not worth sniffing & sipping fine, but I find it odd, only these I mentioned are in the big versus small bottle, kind of an industry curiosity why that is.
Place the Russian Standard bottle in a freezer for 5 -6 hours. Them it will become like syrup, Pour the vodka in a frozen shotglass. You will get an indescribable good vodka, I promise you. Tell me what you think afterwards :)
+Ed Ted - The very best for me has been the Kauffman Private Luxury Collection, but the much more available Beluga Goldline isn't tremendously far behind it. Cheers!
+Freddie Slaughter - For the money, I like Beluga Transatlantic (which I can still get) or even their standard vodka. If you don't mind $100+, the Beluga Gold Line or Jewel of Russia Ultra are great choices. I would say Kauffman Private Luxury Collection, but it's getting hard to find. Cheers!
Great video. I haven't had Vodka in quite a while. But I wanted to serve Martinis at a small gathering and didn't want to seem presumptuous. This video was just what I needed. Now... Had you chosen Single Malt Scotch - There I need No Help whatsoever. I'm an a'bunadh drinker at heart. I don't mind the cheaper as long as it is Real single malt and Real Scottish whisky.
My favs are Chopin, Rated X(their real vodka, not that pink stuff), and Zubrowka. Svedka is the best bang for the buck, but don't drink too much! It's headache material!
THX for awesome videos. It’s a good thing you have the disclaimer :-) ( the comparison is subjective) I decided against my better judgment to give American vodkas a try so I grabbed ROCK since no one in Houston has EXCHANGE. I must say I feel like I flushed a 20+ down toilet. To my taste buds that’s down there with Smirnoff slightly above Taaka. I'll stick with good old stolichnaya or ketel one.
Well vodka infusions do make for some interesting and inventive cocktails. As for the few infusions I’ve done, I use inexpensive vodkas that have a softer feel to them (so they don’t interfere with the other ingredients but just add flavor). I don't really have a preference on which vodka to use with certain infusions, but Enchanted Rock, Exclusiv "1", Svedka, RÖKK or Sobieski seem to all work well. Cheers!
I never knew vodka could have such different tastes and experiences. I appreciate your effort.
Excellent work mate, so professional.
what you've done here is very worthwhile and informative - thankyou!
I''m a big fan of ralfy and now I can tell I need to start watching your videos too
Do you like the Polish vodka Luksusowa? It's one of my favorites as far as low priced vodka goes. Awesome video by the way.
I haven't added Luksusowa to my collection yet, but I have enjoyed most of the Polish vodkas I've tried. Thanks for the recommendation.
Cheers!
I just sampled both Finlandia and Sobieski. I'd have to say that Finlandia is softer and a touch sweeter than Sobieski. But if you like a little burn in your vodkas, Sobieski wouldn't be a bad choice.
Cheers!
You have an excellent palate, thank you for taking the time to create this thorough review!
You are so welcome and cheers!
I don't have a specific "favorite" brand of Sake, but I mostly prefer the unfiltered bottlings for their fullness of texture and flavor.
Cheers!
What a pro. This man knows what he is talking about!
You definitely should try Debowa Oak Vodka (PL). It has very surprising taste I think. And it's got amazing wooden packaging so you can not only taste the oak but also feel it :)
how about giving us a review on those 4,000 cds you have behind you
Hey liquorhound, do you use ice or whisky stones (max or reg size) to chill your vodka? Although I don't get the same flavor profiles you do (though I'm new to vodka) I use your reviews to pick out new ones as I do like the clean, low alcohol, no/little burn ones. Thanks for your vids!
Thank you and all the others like you for your service!
Cheers!
Great video. I've been loving me some of the Rain vodka lately, just love that sweetness!
Very nice video. Any info on Purity Vodka? Just curious on whats your take on that Vodka. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work.
Yeah, I'd love to get his opinion on it too. Purity is the best I've tried.
He should be able to pick up on all the complexities of the flavor profile.
I like Purity very much... though Prairie Organic is just as good for half the $$$.
Dry Fly vodka is a must try. Distilled from 100% local winter wheat in Washington, it has a medium body, slight burn, but a big butterscotch and vanilla smell and taste.
I know the vanilla node feeling, in Reyka especially I felt like it almost had a “creamy” taste to it.. Still was very smoot though.

Have you tried U'luvka? If yes, what do you think of it and where would it stand on this top 16 list? Thanks buddy good video
Glad to see a review on the Reyka. I bought some in Iceland when I was on layover while coming back from tour in Iraq back in 2009. Still sitting in my cabinet unopened. Always been curious concerning what it would taste like. I plan to crack into it the day I leave the Army for good ;)
Did you ever crack it open?
top three favs from most expensive to cheapest.
1.stoli elite
2.crystal skull vodka
3.reyka
but reyka for the win because of how great it taste compared to price point.
*Crystal Head
titos is made of corn while rain is made of white corn which is sweeter and creamier and I agree titos is a great mixer goes with anything very well; it doesn't have alot of flavor though. btw if you have had brekingridge's vodka what did you think?

Love it!! Great video, extremely neat to see these all compared. How to you like Luksusowa, a potato vodka?
+D5quared91 - I think Luksusowa is pretty good, and a nice value in Vodka. Cheers!
Agree with you 100% on finlandia i always use it for making cocktails it works grate for that
McOakcrack fin grapefruit is best
Sobieski is a great vodka for the price.
Cheers!

Reyka is my fav.
right!
Mine too
which vodka do you prefer the most from those?
could you elaborate about the best 3?
grey goose
stoli elit
jean marc xo
sobieski
svedka
van gogh
ciroc
belvedre
chopin
ketel one
and which one from those:
finlandia
smirnoff
absolut
russian standard
stolichnaya
khortytsa
?
thanks! :)
I really enjoy your videos! But my all times favorite vodkas are missing from your list, and I am quite suprised, Have you tried Ultimat or U'luvka ( poland), Xellent (swiss) and Cavalli ( Italy)? , Or are these not available in the US? thanks
I really appreciate the broad comparison. Personally, I enjoy potato vodkas. I hope you’ll do a comparison of the more obscure Polish and Russian potato vodkas.
Thank you! I’ll have to see if I can find any in my area. Cheers!
Hey liquor hound what would you recommend for just drinking with friends?
Very nice. I'll be waiting for your impressions. Thanks for the reply!
based on your review I would love to get my hands on some Reyka, I think the heaviness would be what im looking for, thanks!
Do you like Finlandia better than the Sobieski?
Have you reviewed any vodkas made from sugar cane? If so , how do they rate against grain or corn American made vodkas
Cheers!
your opinion of Sobieski? Is it a quality vodka?
is there any sake that you recommend
Belvedere is not a moderate vodka...
It's obvious that this guy's pallet isn't working properly
Russian standard platinum was the best. So smooth, how can you compare to sht absolute?
I'm glad you love Russian Standard. It's all just information and my unbiased opinion. Cheers!
i know its kind of a budget bottle, but what can you say about skyy vodka? say in comparison to absolut? I vaguely remember hating it before but have read some good stuff about it.
+chrt222 - If you're mixing, either Skyy or Absolut is fine. Sir LiquorHound may i ask a question...what is the most cheapest Vodka the is best used in mixing...ofcourse i want it's taste to be very very unnoticible but i want it to be high in alcohol content too sir
+beginner mode Pu - in my opinion, the least expensive vodkas that still have decent quality would be Monopolowa and Exclusiv 1. Cheers!
Why not try Chopin vodka and Dębowa vodka?
just wondering you picked on sweet through the nose ... How the sweetness smell like?????/
+kalvin darwin - If you've ever been into a candy shop, that's most likely what I was getting (a mixture of sweet aromatics). Cheers!
you need to rank them by you favorite like 1-13 best to worst
where is the ketel one?
What about aging American vodka in European vodka, that would taste interesting.
Which is the most neutral? I want to make vanilla extract.
Well for extract you want it neutral but also higher abv. I believe I’d try Svedka 100 proof since it’s not too expensive. You could also do Smirnoff 100, but I’d still go with the other first. Cheers!
Sobieski is the best bang for your buck.
Once you seriously drink Vodka you'll come to the conclusion Titos is by far the best bang for your buck.
I dont drink alot but when I do ..I want an educated choice and not throw away my money ..looks like Rokk will be my choice ..thanks for the educational and no mumbo jumbo explanation!!
BELVEDERE AND KETLE ONE !!!! STILL WANNA TRY BORU VODKA. Anyone tried BORU?
no grey goose? no ciroc?
I let you know =)
Deeveeaar You can buy some Chopin vodka for about 25 euro. And it is much much more better than Parliament
can you share your thoughts on Kettle One vodka please.
XLNT vodka, great for martinis... I prefer Reyka straight.
What about enchanted rock?
I still like it and it’s in another vodka video review of mine. Cheers!
Can you review vodka Eristoff, please. Thank you.
If I can find a bottle, I’ll see what I can do. Cheers!
I drink Reyka, but was considering trying double cross, thought? Thanks! @LiqourHound
U can try also Indian vodka
Voda name - smoke vodka
I'm shocked you didn't rip apart Svedka. It's below Absolut in my book. Very unpleasant needle to the finish.
note: would use to clean wounds.
Place the Russian Standard bottle in a freezer for 5 -6 hours. Them it will become like syrup, Pour the vodka in a frozen shotglass. You will get an indescribable good vodka, I promise you. Tell me what you think afterwards :)
+Idar Varhaugvik Fuck russia, Finland makes better vodka
Alla Ouksousova actually it was invented in poland
TITOS CHILLED #1 taste+smoothness+value and gluten free!
so whats the best what should i buy from now on
Carlos Álvarez you don’t get it
No UV?
Drank alot of vodka in college.burnets and svedka because they were cheap. Now finlandia is my go to .
Best review on vodka( or ant other spirits) That's just my opinion.
Rain Vodka, just sip it chilled. Distilled 7xs, no hangovers for me. This was interesting.
no Smirnoff???
We have been drinking Pearl peach vodka and it is pretty good for 9.99 at least where I am from. Really yummy with OJ
what is THE BEST hands down vodka that does not burn your mouth
+Ed Ted - The very best for me has been the Kauffman Private Luxury Collection, but the much more available Beluga Goldline isn't tremendously far behind it. Cheers!
what about ciroc thats a really common vodka
Is that how that works?
Grey Goose missing there sir
Where is Kealys ?
What is the 3 best sipping unflavored vodka's in your opinion, you have tasted?
Deep Eddy is not bad for an inexpensive vodka
Best inexpensive vodka is Sobieski, IMHO.
The best is missing. Double Cross Vodka. If you dont know this one, it would be worth your while to try it.
where's the Crystal Head?
Why does absolut gets me intoxicated quicker then any vodka 🤔?
you should try rain it is fantastic so smooth
my favorites: Kru 82, Opulent, Sobieski, and Crystal Head
Wheres ciroc and grey goose!!
My favs are Chopin, Rated X(their real vodka, not that pink stuff), and Zubrowka. Svedka is the best bang for the buck, but don't drink too much! It's headache material!
Finlandia is my favourite!!
VERY good for the price, but really a "run of the mill"... not a high end vodka.
Ketel one all the way i mean if u mix all of them with cranberry ketel one cracks top 2
wheres grey and ciroc
THX for awesome videos. It’s a good thing you have the disclaimer :-) ( the comparison is subjective) I decided against my better judgment to give American vodkas a try so I grabbed ROCK since no one in Houston has EXCHANGE.
I must say I feel like I flushed a 20+ down toilet. To my taste buds that’s down there with Smirnoff slightly above Taaka.
I'll stick with good old stolichnaya or ketel one.
So were you pretty buzzed by the end of the video?? lol
What is your take on the whole infused vodka trend? Is there a certain brand of vodka you suggest for a certain type of infusion?
Well vodka infusions do make for some interesting and inventive cocktails. As for the few infusions I’ve done, I use inexpensive vodkas that have a softer feel to them (so they don’t interfere with the other ingredients but just add flavor). I don't really have a preference on which vodka to use with certain infusions, but Enchanted Rock, Exclusiv "1", Svedka, RÖKK or Sobieski seem to all work well.
Cheers!
Effen Vodkas ?
