One of the best things about this video was seeing so many different decks in standard once again.
I am again sad that Arena doesn't have special animations for special win-conditions.
I wonder if a Halo Fountain deck that just tried to grind out value with Decayed tokens could be a thing? Poppet Stitcher + Halo Fountain sounds kinda fun.

I'm confused, if you can sack a treasure to make a 1/1 and whenever a 1/1 enters the battlefield you get a tapped treasure, is that not just an infinite combo?

I may not have the Bootlegger Stash spice, but watching this inspired me to make my own Halo Fountain deck. I won with Halo Fountain my first two Bo1 games in a row at Diamond rank (although my opponent scooped both times as I started making tokens).
Clever Conjurer/Kelpie Guide combined with Halo Fountain and any creature that can untap an enchanted land draws your deck, and into a Glittering Frost, which gives infinite mana. With infinite mana, you can start using Kelpie to untap Fountain, then Fountain to untap Kelpie... making infinite tokens. Then just play a Chariot, crew it with everything, and activate Fountain to win.
Maybe I've just tanked my MMR so much from testing Artisan decks on ladder, and I also think the surprise factor helped. 😆

This is the card in most excited about from the set for commander I think.
Working on a Derevi tokens / tap untap shenanigans deck with stuff like Opposition and this is a perfect addition to it
Them printing a card called “Strangle” makes for some really funny sentences. “....and strangles the cat....”

@@VGV1deo Almost certainly. 2^31 is the maximum value of a 32-byte signed integer, which is likely how Arena is storing the value (if you're curious why it's not 2^32, the answer is that it's because it also stores negative values. So the number can be anything in the range (-2^31, 2^31]
The whole treasure turning into 1/1s seems terrifying on its own, like a T-rex.
With the halo fountain it’s like giving that T-rex a switchblade.
Another great card for this deck that can be an alternate win condition would be "Explosive Singularity" it's a mythic card from Kamigawa. It's a red sorcery that costs 10 standard mana, 2 red. The card deals 10 damage to any target, however, you can reduce the cost of this card by 1 for each creature you choose to tap, you may tap any number of creatures.
Thanks for doing this for me so I didn't have to spend all the wildcards to try it out myself. :) Against the Odds is one of my favorite series.

the problem I've found with Aria in standard is that so many decks use a heavy number of creature tokens. That on top of the format being so focused around walkers really makes Burn down the House a better choice.
This is a clinic on demonstrating the concept of a "win more" card. Point every beginner you know to this video. If you cannot use the win condition because you literally win in the process of setting it up, that's prime "win more".
Wouldnt Jennie Fae be a good fit in this? Use your bootleggers stash and make cats with haste as a way to turn on halo fountain or have an alternate win?
I feel like at that point you'd set the Halo Fountain to a one-of fun-of and run Jinnie in its place. The deck is threatening to try to go down too many lanes.

There’s something very flavorful about “waiting for a stimulus package”
We've pulled it off a bunch of times already and all the card in the combo are individually really good so the deck has this really nice go wide beat down plan also

Crew is a good idea I didn't think about using in my version of this deck. Instead I went for convoke spells
Considering that BW was a top archetype before Streets, it makes sense that getting powerful creatures to replace their Venture nerds makes the Esper version of the deck really good.

I have a Halo fountain deck with cards that tap to untap another permanent and it is really fun.
I wonder how effective all the treasure synergies would be in an artifact deck with all that glitters and nettlecyst, With trampling stone coil serpents or something like that

I did something like this in Historic with the Convoke mechanic and two march of multitudes. Sparky did not stand a chance
best thing to do is blackstaff of the waterdeep on the fountain with a magda. still use vehicles to tap stuff and a xorn, maskwood nexus or goldspan goes infinite at instant speed
I once made a Paradise Druid deck with 4 Hydra's Growth on it. It maxed out at around 4000000/4000000

You have to get animation guy to do something with 20:21. Victory, Level up, but Seth throws up his hands in frustration.

Something arena let me do was target Halo Fountain with Scheming Fence and then tap and untap the fence for as much mana as I had available

I have only just started to mess with deck Idea using Mob nixolis and copy jace with bounce spells so u can continue picking up these walkers while leaving nonlegend tokens behind it works a bit just need to figure out the creature and sweeper package
There is a combo with jasper sentinel, Magda, xorn, maskwood nexus, and esika's chariot and it can be a turn 4 win with halo fountain. I just forgot how to do the combo 😂

I think the situation is less that halo fountain is 'win more,' and more that it's an 'already won' kind of card. If you *can* use the ability, you could probably have just won with some of your 15 creatures.
This is super cool but I'm confused why you didn't use rabble rousing to double the number of creatures on your board whenever you swing with everybody

My friend and I discovered a standard infinite combo that makes infinite tapped creatures then uses Magda to tutor out a halo fountain and win that same turn.
I wonder if a slightly more aggressive build of the deck that uses 2 Jinnie Fae in place of 2 Bootlegger's Stash might be better. Even just having only one Bootlegger's Stash and running a sort of Naya Treasure Zoo deck with an incidental combo win might make it a better deck, though I know that's not the point of Against the Odds. Is there maybe some kind of interesting thing that can be done with Magda for a faster value start?
It seems like there might be room to play around with this shell and produce something that has a passable midrange plan with an incidental combo win, which would make the deck the Winota of Standard.

Seeing the deck at the end: Drop the 4 Halo Fountains and white in general, bring in more of the devilish valet. the 4 pieces of white removal have to become some form of red removal not sure what would be the best there. Also I'd say more burn down the house in mainboard less of the shatterskull smashings. I think that's where the magic is at. I'd just streamline it into two colors more, i feel like you are splashing white for halo fountain, but it just doesn't do enough to justify it's existence.
Is this card missing text? Cant play the last ability as an instant. They should have stated that on the fing card... Attacked with 19 creatures, had 8 spare white mana, wouldn't let me use the ability. Am I missing something?

34:50 I still think Obscura Ascendancy is a solid card for Standard. You want to play tightly curved instants and sorceries in an Esper deck anyway, so it isn't that hard to make the card produce 6 power and toughness across 3 bodies incidentally while you execute your game plan. It never has to reach Anthem mode - it just has to be a build-your-own Angel of Invention with no extra text beyond Fabricate.
I've played against it and with it in limited and it's been good. My opp got to 4 spirits with it in just a couple of turns after it landed. I would usually get 3 or 4 tokens from it. Really great with connive to dig through to find the right cards with it. In standard it's even better cause u can build ur deck around it more. I think the marches, especially the black one, are great for it. White one is good too, u can always over pay.
Mad respect, but I feel Halo works better with cards like explosive singularity and rable rousing. Maybe throw in some 3 cost Kaya Planeswalker to double tokens for a turn and surprise! You won in one turn. This deck definitely works best in a black/white/red format.
Run magda for bootleggers stash and halo fountain to get around the counter spells in standard.

Why not use Jinnie Fay and skip the step of saccing the treasures to make tokens, and have much better token creatures to utilize as well?
Why isn't there a Magda in the deck? It creates treasures and can search your library for Bootleggers' Stash or Halo Fountain.

1:01:14 Missed lethal right? You could have made 17 tokens on end step and then attacked. That's kind of the problem with the combo that makes you have 15 tapped creatures. If you have that many creatures, you can usually just win by attacking.

Hey, maybe match 2 was playing ascendancy as thier own against the odds, but couldn't make it work so just threw it in an actual good deck. I mean, i get it, i have some really bad pet cards (looking at you, homarids)
Edit to say: shakedown heavy is a legit magic card. Great design, forces decisions which can throw some opponents, one of my favs from this set.

Yeah, the main problem with trying to win with Halo Fountain outside of commander is that if you have 15 tapped creatures why do you need the alternate win condition? Like, it might even still be playable for the first two modes, but the alt win con is really there for commander, where 15 creatures are easy to achieve and not particularly impressive alone.
I mean... if 15 creatures are trapped and attacking, aren't you probably winning the game anyway? Hahaha. This is peak Against the Odds.
