man i love this due to him i progressing in my art carrier and i am only 10 years old! i am proud of what i have achieved because of you only thx for everthing
@Jason Legendary Art thank you so much for making these video's I started my art journey about three years ago and late in age, graphite shading has always eluded me. And watched so many YT video's on how to shade which added more confusion and crappy results. So I went head first into airbrushing because I love to paint with them. But since coming across your videos it has helped me immensely and I am back into the graphite medium with way better results from your video's! Plus your sense of humor makes people retain a lot more knowledge. Thanks for all you do.
I really, really enjoy your videos! Not only because of the information, but the way you have written them and arranged them so that they are really entertaining and encouraging. Some of the best tutorials out there!!
That's a good video there! The right gradient of shading (tonal transition) sure makes a difference in an art piece. Just to mention, I also saw the details you have added to this one to make it hyper-realistic. Well done, man! (add a smiling emoji)
I am also freelance portrait artist in Philippines.. sometimes using graphite alone and sometimes charcoal depends on the price.. if they asked lower price then I used graphite.. one thing catches my attention on your technique is you using first pencil and then graphite and finished it with charcoal.. will it is a good outcome as I tried it..😊😊😊 keep it up buddy..❤❤❤
to anyone watching this, most artists wouldn't tell you that because it's an extreme oversimplification of hard vs soft edges and their actual use. you don't want to just soft blend everything together and actually want to have a mix of soft and hard edges to make the picture look more interesting and point out focal points
There are lots of techniques that artist vlogger won't show you... 80% of the artist vlogger who get exactly the same proportion as to the reference is by way of tracing the reference to the drawing paper .. 😂😂😂😂😂 it is cheating.. but who cares as long they can make a content...
In my way I never trace the reference.. I put my reference to the computer and print it.. on the bond paper that printed my reference I only make two lines, vertical and horizontal and then I used devider proportion to get the exact proportion... I only used gridding method if my drawing is double or triple the size of the reference...
It's funny, cause there are people who would still call that your method cheating. I would say use whatever means to get the proportions right, whether it's tracing, grid or dots. It's only cheating if you start to lie that you used freehand
I'm sure when you did those art pieces back then, they were master pieces to you😂😂. You now see the faults they have now because you have become greater than before. It's one of those feelings artists go through. Have you ever seen your old work and the urge to work on it again kicks in😊.
Yes you can use just pencils but it is good to have a range from at least B to 6B. Anything above a 6B you should you charcoal powder to reduce graphite shine. Charcoal powder is best used for your very darkest tones.
I swear all these videos just like to beat around the bush. The secret is non of this. The secret is shadow and highlights. And the secret to that is understand your light source/s and how they interact with, and reflect off the subject/s. Just teach it how it is instead of making the topic overly complex and lacking sustenance. How would you like it if mother gave the the bone of goat with no meat? That will not carry your legs to school.
True, I understand where you're coming from. I like to make things a little more interesting. I'm sorry the way I presented the information was infuriating to you. To you, it was bone because you seem to be well versed in the art of drawing. You seem to be a good artist already so of course it will be like bone to you. But to a newbie who hasn't heard this before, pretty sure it'll be a big juicy secret.

What app do you use for grids to make sure you are getting the right proportions?
There are lots of techniques that artist vlogger won't show you... 80% of the artist vlogger who get exactly the same proportion as to the reference is by way of tracing the reference to the drawing paper .. 😂😂😂😂😂 it is cheating.. but who cares as long they can make a content...

The app is called Drawing Grid Maker

What about us without brushes and charcoal powder can we shade using the ordinary pencil 🥺
