    I got my 2nd gen tray yesterday and am happy to report that they have updated the swivels. They now come as an integrated piece and have little to no play anymore.

    Sweet! Is the mouse trays' platform large enough to play other games?

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robbert,
      Yes it is. The new batch they shipped out has a longer tray. So you have some space for a mouse as well. Previously, the tray was just for the keyboard but they extended it a bit.
      However, I don’t use it for the mouse as I prefer to use the mouse tray by my shifter. 🙂

      @@RetroSnakey Thanks! Yes that’s the mouse platform I meant as well! So that surface provides enough space for other gaming?

      @RetroSnakey  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes. It’s good sized. But it depends on how high or low your sensitivity settings are. You could run out of room if set too low. I tend to keep my sensitivity low in general and even then I have no issues. 🙂

    Hi mate, great video. I have this tray and had mostly the same thoughts as you. Towards the end though where you say you have to lift the tray to go over the plastic cap you could just adjust the horizontal piece slightly higher so it's level with the cap.

      @@RetroSnakey Absolutely! Unfortunately I was still not able to put it together correctly because the joint on which the actual (heavy) tray is mounted on just always rotates no matter what I do. It seems like I am missing some piece of something. The pieces in the manual look a bit different than what I got. I am waiting for their support team to respond.

    Hi. Could you tell me the right centimeters of length for each aluminum profiles please? You have 1 profile long and 3 short. Have a good day and congratulations for your job. Well done!

      So I measured 1 19cm, 2 20cm and a 42cm profile. Hope that helps!

    Looks great! Do you think this would work well with a flight HOTAS like the Logitech G X56? I’m looking for an easy low profile flight solution for my Sim-Lab setup.

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Justin!
      So it does have space to put the HOTAS.
      But I’m not sure if it would work that well. It would depend on how much you tighten the hinge screws. Having them too loose you’d have devices floating around with the tray.
      But that’s what also makes it easy to sway in and out of the way. Also, keep in mind I talked about the tray slightly slanted if the profile isn’t mounted down center like mine isn’t. Doesn’t bother me really but could be a scenario where that happens for you.

    Pro tip: If you don't want the tray to drag on the cap, just move the rail up a bit to where the top of the rail is even with the top of the cap. It won't destabilize the unit at all.

    Does the tray rotate (up/down) for a better angle? Also, I have a powerful ProSimu P5MP rig... as soon as I hit one big bump this keyboard will be flying off that shelf. It's ridiculous that they don't provide an adjust clamp on on top of the tray to keep pressure from the top and bottom to keep the keyboard firmly in place...perhaps, someone has an idea?

    • @RetroSnakey
      @RetroSnakey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello,
      No it does not rotate. It works well to move in front of you but if you have a powerful rig, unless all swivel brackets are tighten up, it will most likely rotate on the axis..

    Hi again Raf,
    Thanks for another insightful video.
    Your earlier videos helped me to make the decision to chose Sim-Labs rather than Trak Racer for my main cockpit (both makes are more or less unavailable in the UK right now with new stocks expected sometime in August so I am still finalising my spec).
    Like you I wanted a keyboard that I can swivel into a position under my wheel so, based on your review, I think the Gen 2 Trak Racer Tray will be ideal. I can't see any reason why it won't fit into the Sim Labs profile because both use similar (in fact probably identical) aluminium extrusion.
    I will need to figure out a way to reduce or even eliminate the slight wobbliness (is there such a word?) because that will be slightly irritating but I am sure I can come up with something.
    Thanks again for vid!

    • @johnroberts9212
      @johnroberts9212 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroSnakey Yes, my first thoughts were to try and shim the swivel bracket but, as you say, that might make it too stiff.
      All that said, for me, a slightly wobbly keyboard will be way down the list of things to resolve.........building my rig, getting things positioned correctly and then setting up pedals, wheelbase, wheel and shifter etc etc will doubtless be much higher priorities!
      Please post an update if you figure out a good solution and I will let you know how I get on (but that will be a couple of months down the line).
      Best regards.

      Were you able to successfully mount the trak racer keyboard mount to the sim lab without any problems?

    • @johnroberts9212
      @johnroberts9212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EspGuitars08 Yes, the Trak Racer keyboard attached to the Sim Lab rig without any issues at all. I was also able to add a mouse pad extension to the righthand edge of the keyboard tray. The whole assembly sits neatly under my Fanatec steering hub/wheel and can be swivelled completely out of the way when not needed. This took a bit of careful setting up to get the positioning of everything just right but this wasn't difficult to do, it just needed a bit of patience.

  • @Robiam73

    Hi mate, just wondering if you added the little metal bits that look like a "+" as this stops the movement of the brackets. My keyboard mount sits perfectly flat without movement compared to yours and wondering if its because you never added the little plus bits. I also found by sitting the keyboard mount on the right prevents some of the issues you mentioned.

    • @Robiam73
      @Robiam73 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroSnakey Good to hear :) i wonder why you still get movement in the mount ? did it have movement on the right side? i originally tried on the left but due to how it sat i decided to move it to the right and also because i prefer the shifter on the left.

    • @Robiam73
      @Robiam73 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroSnakeyyeah i found that it seems to work better on the right side then left side due to its design which is probably something they should mention when selling it as i tried many ways on the left and it never sat how i wanted it to sit. they should add extra holes in the plate so that you can set it up the same way regardless of which side its on. i was tempted to drill holes but kept it on the right so didnt need to. I have to admit that this keyboard mount is probably the best mount i have used as i can use it for so many things but i think newer versions will correct some of the things you mentioned

    I appreciate your detailed videos. I’m doing research before I purchase a sim racing setup. I enjoyed your PC build😊. The Trac Racer products look good when completed, but the things that are difficult are a pain. Were there other rigs that you considered...like Sim lab. I’m in the US too and want to make a good decision.

    It's a huge bummer they raised the price by 30%. It's way too pricey now. It's better to buy the tray update kit and buy the spare parts to assemble a better swivel tray for $40-50 less (with shipping included)

    8/10? You must be joking! It's typical for TrackRacer to show pictures of items not included in the box, especially because it actually happens with parts, too, not only tools! Also, correctly you outlined that some parts are wrong size. I had similar problems. Finally, stability of all RaceTracker keyboard trays is a major problem. My 1st gen shelf gets unscrewed and falls, as the design is wrong and the company did not admit any fault. Total waste of money, to be avoided.
