What I like about him is every year he says he is going to improve and every year he improves he has done what he said he would do. Willy won me over in the last few years so I am now in his corner too!

I've never had a problem with Willy but in Toronto if you have 1 off game the fans turn on you...I've heard of people saying to get rid of Matthews...like wtf
Not sure about Nylander, but I dont understand the obsession with height / size , like does 6' or 6'3 make any difference at all? it seems like it wont matter much unless you are a GK
Playing 9 seasons having 452 points in only 536 games played that's remarkable! When he retires he'll surely pass Matt's Sundins stats ! So ya I want him as a leaf until his retirement !
Guess what Toronto can't afford him now. He wakes up in a contract Year ? To get a fat paycheck contract and to go back to sleep after that. Trade him now while you will get a return and free up cap space
Yeah ofcourse he just stepped up becuse it is payday, he had the ability to play like he have done the last year before but choose to take it slow and easy (dont want to work up a sweat after all) OR you might just be dumb and Willy have gotten the skillset and opportunity to play at his best.
@@Bisen222i don't know. Annie is probably right. I mean they are only in it for the money, it's not like top players are enjoying themselves or have a competitive nature and want to preform and improve....
Every year fans kept saying, if he only tried harder..... Guess what he has a contract renewal happening so he's trying harder and the results are there. Fans were right.
@@hockeycollective OP is completely right. The recency bias is strong here and you conveniently forget to mention the other 6 years he's played for the leafs. Willy has a history of low effort plays, giving up on puck battles and being afraid in physical games. I can't see him getting paid more than Pastrnak based off a sample size of 20 games in a contract year. He's been good the last 2 years but that doesn't warrant a huge overpay from an already top heavy leafs team with gaping holes on defence.
I don't think he gets as much as Pasta ($11.25M) either, nor should he! He'll end up in around 10 per year in my opinion. But I definitely agree about the Leafs defence holes lol@@dizk8488
@@hockeycollective I agree 10-10.5M sounds right depending on term. Btw not sure if this is Nick but youre nasty at floorball and the tourney was a great watch.
Your uncle was right. He was coasting and capable of more. Now that he wants to get paid he's a hustler who goes hard in the paint. It's a vindication of everything he was criticized for.
Nylander is showing how much he is Learning to Position Himself better this Year than ever before. The Leafs Big 3 are Weak on Defense and You can tell Mathews is the One causing the Goals Against the Most because of His Very Bad Positioning Skill. When Nylander is with 4 Checkers to get Him the Puck at both ends , He looks Happy and doesn't have to Work so Hard. When They Line Nylander with Mathews, He has to Work Harder to Succeed and doesn't look as Happy. If You want Nylander to get You to the Cup , Trade Mathews for as Many Good Checkers , at both ends , that You can get so Nylander doesn't have to Work that hard to get You to the Cup. Listen to Me Boys and We will Fight for the Cup , Promise !
Playing in the USA as a Kid is the Problem with Nylander. Like Mathews , He doesn't Train to Cover Their Zones Correctly That's why Nylander is Learning Faster than Mathews about how to Play Correctly, He grew Up in Calgary knowing the Great Ice Hockey Players like Fleury and Gilmore They were as Great as Brad Marchand at Positional Ice Hockey and that is Why They saw the Cup. Toronto Hates that Type of Player Showing Up the Company's Big Money Project . When Toronto gets an Owner that wants the Cup , then They will Stop this Corporate Project Crap and get Real Ice Hockey People to Run the Team.

Agreed! Seems like each season he has taken a step forward
He's put up points like 50 just in the play offs !
There’s talk that Nylander could command a $11 M AAV salary which would force GM Brad Treliving to trade either him or Mitch Marner.

Very fair - overreaction central haha
nobody was wrong Wiily is becoming more assertive driving to the net more ,less shy of going into traffic making him more effective and dominating.
I don’t think anyone ever thought the talent isn’t there. It’s contract year. That’s the only difference

Love when guys play their whole career for one Franchise, would be cool
@@hockeycollective absolutely ! But it'll never happen in today's market .
uncle here. and here is where i'm right. This team cannot afford 4 gold diggers. (along side reilly who is not worth 7.5)

I always said he will be better than his brother and father.
Boy was Don Cherry ever wrong on that take
He was almost always wrong 😂😂

I hear ya, but I disagree. 80 points in 81 games 2 years ago, 87 points in 82 last year. He’s been proving his worth for years

After Willie gets his desired monster contract deal, he will revert to his lazy self, get injured a lot, and play like Jonathan Huberdeau.

Except the last several years he wasn’t up for a contract and was producing,, working hard and was consistent.
I am certain you also are a flat earther since you seems to dig stupid conspiracy theories
@@shakrmakrlol. He invented social distancing
100 minutes in penalty lol would that be a good thing??
The biggest problem with him was consistency, we will see if he can stay consistent this year
Its the blue bucket
My nephews uncle was not wrong people who don't know hockey and stupid leaf fans were wrong tho
Haha fair enough. Unfortunately that was a loud majority of fans for a few seasons - Toronto media certainly didn’t help
