Absolute genius. Such an inspirational guy. I bumped into Mark in Morrisons supermarket in Shanklin IoW. Never did pluck up the courage to stop and chat to him though!

In the late 80's I worked in the Sound Department of the national TV station of Ireland & Mark & the band were the main act on the primer show that week. Normally after the evening meal break I would go back early to the studio & take advantage of the free time to play the Steinway piano in the studio when nobody was there, I'm not a piano player, but I loved trying to put together some jazz progressions...just fiddling around & on a steinway they always sounded great, as almost everything does. To my surprise Mark arrived in & we chatted for a few minutes before the Presenter, Director & Musical Director also arrived, all of whom I knew well. As a group they stood around the piano discussing how his input on the show show should go while Mark kept referring to me when it came to any musical questions....much to the confusion of the of the Musical Director. Well done with the interview. Funny, I was playing A Physical Presence in the car today, can't believe it was1985!!. 🥺 I've seen them about 6 times in the 80s in Belfast. Good on them for coming, when a lot of bands didn't. Marks slap solos in Mr Pink and the start of Love Games sound like a machine gun firing. Unless you play bass, you can't comprehend the physical demands of playing like that. Like Lessons in Love. How he plays that for a whole song, I've no idea. They're so unbelievably tight as a band. Fantastic jazz/funk/pop fusion. They were all great musicians. It's a brilliant live album. They sound at the top of their game, even though it was early days. I now feel very old.😩😩
Such a wonderful interview Izzy. I know Sean, the sax player in Level 42, although I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Mark yet. As an 80's child, growing up there is no doubt that Level 42 inspired me and my band in England... I played funk in the early 90's until Jamiroquoi came along. But Level 42 were my first inspiration, and Leaving Me Now is still absolutely one of my all time favourite songs.
well done izzy - intelligent qs to an incredible musician. mark and mike are two if the most intelligent talented musicians ever, but they worked their socks off to maintain the groove. Good luck, young lady.
Great interview. Weird seeing him referred to as just 'lead singer' in the video title though. He's only one of the most innovative and greatest bass players of all time. Probs worth mentioning.
Mark King . I don't know if you can see this remark. You are my favorite bass player ever. I still practice my bass to your music 1. Lessons in Love and 2. Almost there. Keep up the good work sir. When are you coming to North Carolina USA?
Mark, just seen the "Level 42’s Mark King & Marlee King live from The Summerhouse Studio" vid but, you've turned off comments for it!....BUT! great interview Izzy. Marlee, I think it's fantastically catchy tune, especially with what's going on in the UK ATM!....Try offering up to the RC's.....You never know Girl!, 'you never know'! Good luck to kidda! Love to ya girl from Gill, Lexie, Harper and me...Pete!

As @Mr Omlette says below; really great questions and amazing valuable advice from Mr. King. The part about 'you have to get out there' is so true, plus if you don't, then you miss out on the most amazing part of being a gigging musician, which is making people forget about their troubles and woes and have a really good time. This is part of why being a musician is about helping others, which of course balances out all the hours and hours of being alone practising. The other important theme mentioned is 'making your own way' and not riding on the back of family or networking. You have to be competent at doing your own thing whilst at the same time, working at being in a band so as to get the band member communications (almost telepathical at times) locked in and working. This usually only appears with musicians who have worked together quite a lot. Brilliant interview.
Great interview Izzy, well done.

@@rangerwhite5165 Yes, but you mentioned that you were playing it in the car. So you must have it on CD too.
@@stephenalanmoore7278 It was on spotify in the car mate.
Great interview, really enjoyed this..good questions ! Greetings from Belgium :-)
Cracking musician - nice interview.
Before I entered the church and was ordained, I was a radio dj. I interviewed Mark and yours was better than mine!
Well, at least you didn't get into any hot water with the church for it.
great musician. just saw level 42 last week. Fab
Great interesting interview loved it. Level 42 sound of my teens love them
Excellent questions. Like a mini masterclass
Such a nice guy. Well done on the intervew Izzy.
Respect to the king
Great job Izzy …Marks a legend and great guy 👍🏻
Mark king is truly a legend, I've never heard of a bass player like him before, great interview Izzy
A great Band.
Great that Mark is talking drums up front and the importance of time, love his bass playing though. Phil Gould was amazing drummer
Proper legend
well done izzy - intelligent qs to an incredible musician. mark and mike are two if the most intelligent talented musicians ever, but they worked their socks off to maintain the groove. Good luck, young lady.
I first saw Level 42 at the Queensway hall in Dunstable 1882 I’m still deafened by all those blooming whistles everybody used in the 80’s
Great interview. Weird seeing him referred to as just 'lead singer' in the video title though. He's only one of the most innovative and greatest bass players of all time. Probs worth mentioning.
thanks for this interview, love mark king and as a musician in haitus I definitely needed to hear the bit about networking.
Mark King . I don't know if you can see this remark. You are my favorite bass player ever. I still practice my bass to your music 1. Lessons in Love and 2. Almost there. Keep up the good work sir. When are you coming to North Carolina USA?
You're a top guy Mr King.
Class Bloke 🇬🇧👍
Playing slap bass guitar while singing is not easy and Mark is doing it effortless 👋👋👋
Great interview Izzy…
Mark, just seen the "Level 42’s Mark King & Marlee King live from The Summerhouse Studio" vid but, you've turned off comments for it!....BUT! great interview Izzy. Marlee, I think it's fantastically catchy tune, especially with what's going on in the UK ATM!....Try offering up to the RC's.....You never know Girl!, 'you never know'! Good luck to kidda! Love to ya girl from Gill, Lexie, Harper and me...Pete!
Lovely interview and you asked some really interesting questions!
Excellent interview. This girl has earned more subs. Mark seems like a great dude. Go on peeps, like and subscribe
