    I think like many have mentioned in the comments a big factor is wheelbase, Wheelbase drastically changes your boards feel and performance. Personally I am a shorter 5 foot 7 guy and I love a 14 inch wheelbase but if a tall wide and long legged person was to ride my board they would think it’s too narrow and pops too fast.

    I think if you switch it up every now and then you never feel weird when you try another size. If you rode 8.25 all the time and you try something wider or narrower it’s gonna feel off. I ride a Powell 10 inch vert board but yesterday I was trying to get heel flips using a Powell 7.6 . I think about How Gonz uses different boards and rips either way. That’s my inspiration

    My 8.25 was pretty nice but I ended up getting an 8.358 thinking it wouldn’t make a difference… just loved the graphic. Wrong. So much extra stability.

    Just grabbed a 8 , 8.125 , 8.25 , 8.38 and a 8.5. going to try them all out see what i like the best. Used to always ride 8 , 8.125 or 8.25 never really saw that much of a difference other than shape of the board used to always be happy with 8.125 but excited to try 8.38 and 8.5. does it really matter tho when you're talking only so much length to me not at all but they definitely have different shape w each size

  • @cheothegeo2742
    @cheothegeo2742 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    honestly for me the size doesn't matter. but the concave and the kicktail totally does. It has to be mellow-medium concave with a mellow kick. no exceptions.

    • @darkknight17

      What's the difference between mellow and steep tail on terms of pop?

    • @cheothegeo2742
      @cheothegeo2742 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      steep tail means it takes more effort to pop. there's more of a delay in the pop. Thus, more effort = higher pop. but for me I need a quicker snap. popping with less effort takes less of a toll on your body. and you can skate a lot longer without getting sore. the height of your trucks also plays a huge roll in that too if you're looking for a quicker pop.

    • @darkknight17
      @darkknight17 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kermicheo Kermit thanks bro. I've always wondered whether to get a steep or mellow tail and what the difference is. I've currently got a Powell-Peralta Flight deck and it's a mellow tail. Pop doesn't seem great but it ollies quite high when I view videos of myself practicing. I guess I'll stick to mellow.
      How old are you? I ask because you mentioned it takes a toll on your body? I'm 36 and work long hours. I know when I'm tired I lose the motivation to practise ollies and other tricks. I just wanna cruise.

    It's all subjective. I have skated 8.25s for the last 9 or 10 years now. The only issue that ever comes up is the wheel-base (which, should always be determined by length " vs. WB ") for these decks.

    I remember starting and 8’s were considered huge. I was on a 7.75. Then I got on an 8 and after a week I noticed 8.25’s were the huge boards. Started riding 8.25’s for backside/frontside stability on gaps. Now most ppl I ride with are like “f*ck those 8.25’s..8.5 is where it’s at”. Idk if I’ll try one but I do feel a comfort spot with 8-8.25

    for me it's more or less truck size matters and whatever fits the trucks. I switched to thunder 149's this year cuz im turning 31 and the extra space in the hanger is saving my knees. the boards so much heavier but having size 11.5 feet it just feels right. even tho its almost a vert board set up. lol

      Nelson Stack I ride 8.25 with 149s, hardly what I’d call a vert board lol! Definitely a bit wider but it gives pretty good ATV potential in my eyes

      .. soul and everything more save. I wonder what made it bad for you that it fucked up your knee.
      But honestly... do some work out to strengthen you legs is the best you can do against knee pain. There are tons of exercise videos against knee pain on TH-cam. The basket ball dudes have really good one. Check out for one on the lost breed for example
