Yeah same, the interesting fact is when I try to explain it to myself when walking or moving it forces me to creatively answer the question. When it's right I try to shorten my answer and be more clear towards that imaginary audience. I always thought I was weird for learning like this. Im glad it's the method for better recall instead of highlighting with the impression u transfer the info during highlighting. This is proven to be ineffective for recall, but great to quickly find relevant info about a subject that is connected with the major material of an examen. In summary: Highlighting is great for filtering and to separate relevant and irrelevant information, yet active recall explained in the video is the method for retaining that information for the long term. Maybe u guys find this useful, but this works for me. I use a 4 step proces for longterm info storing. 1. I read just globally and with more like an amusing attitude the material ( a book for tax or law ). 2. When I find the subjects that are more complicated I highlight it and then I read it 1 more time but this time with a thorough understanding. 3. Next i try to make (when provided) some exercises to practice and become more familiar with the material. 4 Then when I am confident enough I try to actively explain it to myself or an imaginary audience, when I am wrong I can go back to the highlighted information to provide myself with the missing info that I was stuttering during the explanation. That's my method, it worked for me almost anytime. Its not the fastest, but for very important subjects ( also shown in the video ) the method for retaining information for long term.
As a muslim, I used to memorize the Qura'an and do the same tachnique which is closing the book and trying to recall the verses by making sure that I made zero mistakes since my childhood and that really helped me in making my memory so strong. I've never encountered obstructions or difficulties on any course that depends on memorizing. However, for those who finds themselves having troubles on memorizing I highly recommend u guys to look over the techniques given in this video!

imo its better to understand more than memorise, i can solve a math equation without naming the steps (thats not a flex its a bad thing)because i didn't memorise and only understood how to solve it.. so if u make it 30% memorise 70% actually solving similar equations it should be good, i get always 100 in math because of this technique.
KEY TAKEAWAY:‼️ What i've realized about flashcards is that in order to maximize its efficiency as a study tool/technique/strategy you gotta designate a specific time to gather and organize all the subject's material/content in order to effectively study for an exam (notice I didnt say project but mainly something like a quizz/test/exam). And like with anything else you have got to be consistent in comitting to this process, otherwise your lecture notes and other course content is gonna creep up on you before you know it. Therefore, Its always good to keep good measure and track your progress (color coded not numbered; preferably). For eg. Days that u just could not study mark it as red in your calendar. Its a bit less deblitating to see a few reds in a sea of green!
I know for a fact, the technique is very beneficial. But what I don't get is that if we keep recalling the same things over and over again when will we learn new things.. 😂😅
@@4048 well, these are excellent points... but one who doesn't have much time to read can use these techniques only for important informations... and it's also very hard to adopt to these methods as an adult.. so every parent should teach these to their kids when they are young enough...

Name three ways you can incorporate active recall: Creating Questions, Using Anki, Multi-modal recall, Practice Questions. These were the three ways you can incorporate active recall.
that is true that recall is a good way of memorizing things but it takes a lot of time. Are there any other memorizing techniques where you will memmorize the things without recalling them?
Success is made thanks to hard work. Not taking thing easy. The difficulty and the feeling of active recall makes it work. If you feel it's too easy, then you're probably not doing it right
1. forgot 2. active recall is remembering from memory passive is recalling from the physical source of the info 3. spaced repetition and flashcards 4. flashcards, teaching imaginary class, using questions based on notes
DONT PRIORITIZE THIS AS YOUR MAIN STUDY HABITS (Passive recall processes): 1) Rereading notes 2) Highlighting - nowadays we dont really have to highlight notes in a physical book because we have the feature or option to filter search documents and other related textbooks. Instead try prioritizing active recall strategies such as: 1) Past paper/Textbook/AI generated questions 2) if you have online classes try looking at saved class recordings and evaluate your lecturer's teachings. 3) Summarize - At the end of every study session try to summarize all the material you've learnt and studied rather than abruptly finishing your study session. Summarizing helps to cement the content and store it easier in your long term memory by proving to yourself that you understand the work. 4) Discuss the topic - doing this with a friend or family member or even a classmate can really help your practice both practical and theoretical frameworks. Its essentially a win-win. Also,, it incorporates a bit of fun, ultimately, making the moment if studying more memorable and significant. 5) Create flashcards - physical ones are typically better because they require effort (the effort rule states that the more effort you.out into something the more you're likely to remember it and the longer). 6) Track progress - color code every day on your calendar to show the days you've studied in green and the days you havent in red. This is less debilitating than seeing your counter go to zero. 7) Have an accountability partner - it doesnt matter if its a friend, family membef or classmate. This person helps you avoid procrastination. 8) Create group chats for each class or just with academically inclined students. 9) Prioritize time and energy management outside of school (These are lagging measures, be proactive) 10) Understand that it all boils down to your attitude and perspective - perspective drives purpose, purpose drives goals, goals create motivation, motivation leads to action, actions become daily habits, habits become systems, systems become second nature and before you know it you're living your best life. "The same boiling water that makes an egg hard is the same boiling water that makes and egg soft." 11) Become comfortable with the uncomfortable - this requires self control, understanding, patience and humility. Being able to endure boredom and failure breeds success. 12) Be able Sacrifice - learn to sacrifice for the given occassion. Sometines you're just gonna have to make that decision for your future self's benefit. (This should not be often as it can become unhealthy). 13) Lead a balanced well-being and lifestyle outside of education and academics. 14) Be grateful and make the most of the resources that you have. Time is your most precious resource. Once its gone its gone. 15) Dont overwork yourself on planning - analysis paralysis is really detrimental to taking action! 16) Focus on consistency and progress not perfection - create a strong foundation for your progress. Days that you only have 25% and you gave 25% you still gave it 100%. Learn to tolerate failure, this creates resilience in your overall character. Perfection is a disease of a nation.
Not everyone can practice recall. Life takes recall away from bad people. If you say recall around them, they will only get angry, and they will never say the word themselves (they can't). Cool video.
close the book and try to recall, create a list of questions from your notes , flashcards, spaced repetition tool like anki, multiple modes- writing on a white board, or speaking out load, teach to imaginary students, do practise questions,
hi i dont know if anyone have this problem or not but i understand what i learnt and i remember that but i am not able to write a detailed explanation about it can you make a video please
This is actually my usual method to study and it is actually helpful , but the problem is I forget everything I read once the exam paper is on my table . Any solution?
That’s because either you didn’t get enough sleep or you were unknowingly nervous!! Don’t study one hour before your test because you’ll be under pressure and your brain won’t be able to proceds it.
@@ddelicateroses I study two weeks before the exams and I revise the lessons regularly and the last one is 15 mins before the exam . Thanks for this information
1. Use feynman techinque and explain concepts to someone or write them/take notes, then use it as a place to actively recall from. 2. Ask questions, to pay more attention and its a way to recall information. 3. Do questions like in a test, you will be forced to active recall which strengthens the concept
Actually i did this and still able to remember some theory of that part but not all , reason i did not "revised" that again for a while.. maybe no need to look into it every day but atleast once in 4 days?!.. the thing is i wrote the questions and answered but very roughly and there i ignored it.. i think i have to retry it for my exams and give some time in making it into flashcards this time. I hope it will help.. the problem is how many flashcards i have to make now ??? 😟
1. Hippocampus
2. Active recall and spaced repeatation
3. Flash cards spaced repeatation

imo its better to understand more than memorise, i can solve a math equation without naming the steps (thats not a flex its a bad thing)because i didn't memorise and only understood how to solve it.. so if u make it 30% memorise 70% actually solving similar equations it should be good, i get always 100 in math because of this technique.
KEY TAKEAWAY:‼️
What i've realized about flashcards is that in order to maximize its efficiency as a study tool/technique/strategy you gotta designate a specific time to gather and organize all the subject's material/content in order to effectively study for an exam (notice I didnt say project but mainly something like a quizz/test/exam).
Omggg I thought I was the only one who taught the stuff to imaginary students that j needed to learn, genuinely helped
I know for a fact, the technique is very beneficial. But what I don't get is that if we keep recalling the same things over and over again when will we learn new things.. 😂😅
what's your opinion about this?
@@4048 well, these are excellent points... but one who doesn't have much time to read can use these techniques only for important informations... and it's also very hard to adopt to these methods as an adult.. so every parent should teach these to their kids when they are young enough...
Hello, very good video. Could you please make a video on how to apply active recall and spaced repetition in mathematics and engineering? There are many videos that explain these techniques for theoretical careers such as philosophy and psychology, but not for engineering and similar areas. Please do it. Greetings!"
Bro I'm a student i get 3 answers corrected , active recall is fire

I've been doing it since so long without realising
All 4 ! without notes

Excellent content!
I answered all question right without cheating
underrated!
Imagination can take you anyplace anytime.. memory can be edited as we please. Like a multidimensional art. Or movie
Effective tips
sometime wedo same thing but we d=forget that these were the things we use to do . But when we stuck we tend to forget that these technique we use to do in school. now being in clg i am going to do same .
Name three ways you can incorporate active recall:
Creating Questions, Using Anki, Multi-modal recall, Practice Questions.
If you feel it's too easy, then you're probably not doing it right
Try using the mind palace technique that Sherlock Holmes used
@@sharvenkevin1699so true omggg
i'm going to do this for work. i really don't know certain aspects of my job.
1. forgot
2. active recall is remembering from memory passive is recalling from the physical source of the info
3. spaced repetition and flashcards
4. flashcards, teaching imaginary class, using questions based on notes
actually this is the exact same trick for myself....but it actually takes time...if your exam is closer you can try writing down or attempting tests
Great
DONT PRIORITIZE THIS AS YOUR MAIN STUDY HABITS (Passive recall processes): 1) Rereading notes
2) Highlighting - nowadays we dont really have to highlight notes in a physical book because we have the feature or option to filter search documents and other related textbooks.
Instead try prioritizing active recall strategies such as:
1) Past paper/Textbook/AI generated questions
2) if you have online classes try looking at saved class recordings and evaluate your lecturer's teachings.
9) Prioritize time and energy management outside of school (These are lagging measures, be proactive)
10) Understand that it all boils down to your attitude and perspective - perspective drives purpose, purpose drives goals, goals create motivation, motivation leads to action, actions become daily habits, habits become systems, systems become second nature and before you know it you're living your best life. "The same boiling water that makes an egg hard is the same boiling water that makes and egg soft."
11) Become comfortable with the uncomfortable - this requires self control, understanding, patience and humility.
Days that you only have 25%
and you gave 25% you still gave it 100%. Learn to tolerate failure, this creates resilience in your overall character. Perfection is a disease of a nation.
Always be humble enough to relook at guidelines, instructions and outlines for your success. Have fun!
Not everyone can practice recall. Life takes recall away from bad people.
If you say recall around them, they will only get angry, and they will never say the word themselves (they can't).
Cool video.
close the book and try to recall, create a list of questions from your notes , flashcards, spaced repetition tool like anki, multiple modes- writing on a white board, or speaking out load, teach to imaginary students, do practise questions,
Important to note you still need to passively read to actively recall.
I like it😀
hi i dont know if anyone have this problem or not but i understand what i learnt and i remember that but i am not able to write a detailed explanation about it
can you make a video please
Yea bro passive shit is so in effective
I m watching this before the night of exam .
I used active recall to learn active recall
This is actually my usual method to study and it is actually helpful , but the problem is I forget everything I read once the exam paper is on my table . Any solution?
That’s because either you didn’t get enough sleep or you were unknowingly nervous!! Don’t study one hour before your test because you’ll be under pressure and your brain won’t be able to proceds it.
@@ddelicateroses I study two weeks before the exams and I revise the lessons regularly and the last one is 15 mins before the exam . Thanks for this information

super !
As a Hindu I've have to remember 4 vedas and Active Recall help me so much
hey i made mind maps and got all the answers right
Is the method number 3 supported by research? May I have some papers to read?
so some part of this technique is also feynman technique? (please give your perspective)
I failed my gcses and i was a foundation student. I didn’t know how exactly to revise, i was always demotivated
Cool
Hello, can I get the reference for this? I'm creating a research paper regarding this topic.
If you were smart enough you'd know that a link to the video is the reference
I ace it 🤩
Thank you , it helped me a lot
I got 90% right
1. Use feynman techinque and explain concepts to someone or write them/take notes, then use it as a place to actively recall from.
2. Ask questions, to pay more attention and its a way to recall information.
3. Do questions like in a test, you will be forced to active recall which strengthens the concept
Okay but I do have to read book for understanding concepts then do active recall right??
What is the Anki app you use on iPhone?
Do i study and right the questions and write the questions at the same time?
My brain just stop working using it 💀
Is it weird the questions were kinda easy to answer?
Nope! You listened well, and developed a strong primary memory.
I answered three

I am excited for th exams
I understand the point the video is trying to make but did anyone else absolutely crush the questions at the end lol
Its a 4 minute video our memory is still fresh lol
Actually i did this and still able to remember some theory of that part but not all , reason i did not "revised" that again for a while.. maybe no need to look into it every day but atleast once in 4 days?!.. the thing is i wrote the questions and answered but very roughly and there i ignored it.. i think i have to retry it for my exams and give some time in making it into flashcards this time. I hope it will help.. the problem is how many flashcards i have to make now ??? 😟
