    Nice video. Did you ever figure out how to transpose sequences via keyboard and still remain in synch? Seems that hitting the keyboard slightly early triggers it early... was hoping it would "wait"..

    • @CreativeSpiral

      There is a setting for "Arp Beat Sync" in menus, but I don't use it much... usually prefer to just time the key strikes, and get a more organic sync. In my Mass and Motion demo, I go through a lot of sounds like these, and actually sometimes is preferable to slightly lead the beat, or trail the beat for more of a groove. th-cam.com/video/LSevxzBExCs/w-d-xo.html

    Another great demo Jason, fully agree that Sequential needs to implement a ratchet knob or button. I have been considering the Matriarch because of this but the sequencer on the Pro 3 makes it difficult to rule out especially with being able to CV sequence modular gear.

    Excellent video
    Are you able to use a different sound on each sequencer track so you can build up a small pattern so a base lead pad etc ?

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do this somewhat... though with some serious limitations... since this is a mono/paraphonic synth, there is only one "voice" with full articulation of envelopes and filter. You can individually sequence the three oscillators with different patterns, using modulation sequencing, and you can modulate osc levels in the seq lanes as well.... so you can get a different sort of sound with each oscillator. But this synth is not ideal for having multiple, completely different sounds, sequenced together.. a true polyphonic/multitimbral synth would be best suited for that. That being said, I absolutely adore this synth and its advanced sequencing capabilities... it really is the most versatile mono/para synth ever created. I have some other videos in which I show off more of the modulation sequencing capabilities. And my Mass and Motion soundset showcases a bunch of more advanced sound designs that only this instrument can accomplish: th-cam.com/video/LSevxzBExCs/w-d-xo.html

    I can’t figure out how to have different step lengths per track. If I record a 14 step note sequence, all the other tracks are 14 steps. How do you do poly rhythm ic sequences? Thanks!!

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hold down the step button which you want to make the last, then press the Reset button. That will cause the track to have a different/shorter length. You can do this on a per-track basis to create poly rhythms. To return to full 16-step length, just hold down step 16 and press reset.

    @RadekPilich 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great demo. I have two questions if I may....
    1. Is it possible to record / shift individual notes off the 16 step grid? If not, don't you find a bit too much musically limiting having to adhere to 1/16ths?
    2. Can the Cue Program (manual p. 79) be used to create sequences longer than 64 steps? Or does it only change the sound program while keeping the sequence the same?

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Radek - its not gonna give you DAW level control over note timing/rhythms, but the Note Ratcheting allows you to subdivide beats into multiple sub beats, and the Swing Knob allows you to give your sequence a groove to it. I often use the swing often at lower levels. You can also double your BPM and treat notes as if they are 32nds, with less total steps... If you want more subdivision. Regarding the CUE program, yes, that effectively lets you create longer sequences or song parts (verse/bridge/chorus) that are separated into consecutive patches... with different sequences on each. You just have to use the CUE button/knob combo to cue them up before the current sequence ends (its not automated, but pretty easy to pull off in a live setting, using one hand)

    • @RadekPilich
      @RadekPilich 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CreativeSpiral I didn't expect DAW level control, it's just that pretty much all standalone HW sequencers these days feature unquantized recording / micro-timing, so I wanted to be clear on what's going on in here. It's such a beautifuly designed maschine. Enjoy your time with it.

    awesome video. Can you have multiple different sequences from different sounds going on at the same time like different tracks?

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! You can sequence each of the three oscillators independently to create some variation, but can't really get multiple totally unique sounds on different tracks. In the "Mass and Motion" soundset I created, there's some more examples of some of the type of complex animated motion and sequences that can be generated: th-cam.com/video/LSevxzBExCs/w-d-xo.html

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here's another video that shows an example of creating a few different electronic drum timbre sounds within a sequence... but, yeah, it's not true multitrack... just using the 13 mod sequence lanes to vary the sounds that play to create the impression of multiple sounds playing together. th-cam.com/video/Z_uJF2OwdWw/w-d-xo.html

    How does the seq compare to the Pro 2's sequencer? Can it allow paraphonic tracks like the Pro 2? Also when you have made 4 different sequences (with the 4 seq buttons) can they all be saved as a patch including all sound settings?

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the late response.. didn't see this until now. The Pro3 has twice as many phrases (4 instead of 2), and yes, they are saved per patch. You can do some really amazing sequence variations and rapidly switch between them. Check out this vid for another example I did of a complex arp, with live mangling of phrases. th-cam.com/video/C54kSVChdw8/w-d-xo.html

    Hallo, thanks for this video. is it possible to make chords and pads?

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pro3 is a monophonic/paraphonic synth, so pads and chords are not its top strength. A true polyphonic synth works best for those type of duties. However, for a paraphonic synth, it works awesome. I have programmed in many paraphonic patches to play pads and chords and they sound great with the standard paraphonic limitations. You can hear some of the pads and chords in my soundset here: th-cam.com/video/GDtO3me2LS0/w-d-xo.html

    Which sound do you prefer Brute or Pro 3?

    • @CreativeSpiral
      @CreativeSpiral  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The core sound engine on both are solid foundations for sound design. The MxB offers a third VCO osc, where the Pro 3 gives you a digital wavetable osc for the third, which allows for more choices in the sound foundation. I think I might prefer the raw filter sound of the three individual filters on the Pro 3, however the MxB offers serial/parallel dual filter routing which opens up further sound design options... and MxB filters do sound great too. Both units have great mod matrixes... The MxB is more visual with with matrix, but the Pro 3 has 32 mod slots and is really a sound designer's dream. I prefer the paraphonic mode on the MxB over the Pro 3 (at least with current firmwares). Both offer powerful sequencers, but I would say the Pro 3 is probably the best I've ever seen implemented in a synth. You really can't go wrong with either. www.presetpatch.com/articles/Sequential-Pro-3-vs-Arturia-MatrixBrute-vs-Moog-Subsequent-37

      @@CreativeSpiral you actually CAN go wrong if you go with the Matrixbrute. They are notorious in the customer service dept. There is a bug in the latest version (v2) where you cannot trigger the sequencer or lock in an arpeggio when "Midi Sync" is switched on and you are sending it midi clock. So if you are cooking along and have some solid midi clock coming in via DIN, and want to play a sequence, you press a key and your and ...NOTHING. Same w the arp.
      This used to work before the big "bug fix" that took almost 2 years. Now a "hot fix" is supposed to fix this back, but that's already passed the 4 month mark. I use midi clock as the heartbeat of my large system. Why can't they make this work again? If you want the MB to sync to a clock you are out of luck.

      @@yeskeys Yeah, I know.. I'm on MxB forum as well.. the 2.0 was a hearty upgrade, with tons of great new features and functions, *and* this MIDI sync issue. The devs have said they're working on it, and I tend to believe them... they are proceeding at a glacial pace, but we'll get another version soon I hope. So yes, you're right the MIDI sync is jenky right now.. I've been just manually matching BPMs in meantime, which works for most of what I do. But I am looking forward to the hotfix.. Otherwise it's a great board though... although I suspect it will be playing second fiddle to the Pro 3 for some time.
