    Hi man, I am a new fisherman in Minnesota. I live on a small lake and it is pretty clear. What lures would you recommend for me to just go out and have a fun time fishing? I will be going for bass and pike, but I haven't caught a pike yet and I really want to.

    • @LureoftheOutdoors
      @LureoftheOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching!
      If the lakes clear I would look to fish natural coloured lures. Look at any of the Rapala lures. X-rap or jointed are great lures. Both will catch bass and pike no problem.
      Surface lures in the summer will also be worth trying especially first and last light. This is probably the most fun way of fishing as the takes are very visual.
      Maybe visit a local tackle store, I’m sure they will point you in the right direction of which lures work locally.
      Good luck. 👍🎣

      @@LureoftheOutdoors I'm hankering for trout to be fair - maybe some nymphing for brownies on small rivers or reservoir rainbows if they open up. Maybe a bit of spinning for salmon if we get rain but very little water flow at present. Possibly a go at zeds on still waters - been meaning to try your ned rig techniques. Everywhere will be busy - all that pent up demand! Will try for bass a bit later when they open up accommodation - too far to go for the day.

    • @LureoftheOutdoors
      @LureoftheOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tricky without knowing where you fish Few tips for you.
      First make sure pike are in the water you are fishing!
      Then fish a few tried and tested lures (Rapala, mepps, Savage gear) when the pike are most active.
      Dawn and dusk are great times to fish.
      Keep on the move, only have a few casts to cover the water in each swim. Think where your lure is in the water column and where the pike might be waiting.
      Think what and where the pike may be feeding and try and use a lure that looks similar.
      Hope that helps. Enjoy. 👍🎣

    So you can use light 5g spinners on a 10g rod?

    • @LureoftheOutdoors
      @LureoftheOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that’s fine. they won’t cast as far as it’s not ideally suited to the rod but it gets you fishing. 👍

      Think I would be trying spinners first, either your ondex or if you have a smaller mepps. Size 2 seems to catch a everything. Slow retrieve this time of year, just off the bottom. If it’s coloured try a lure with a brighter colour maybe a shad. Keep changing lures to mix it up. Get your drag set and good luck. 🎣🤞
