KAYAK FISHING for SEA TROUT - Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Bings Landing, Florida

  • Today, we’re kayak fishing for sea trout! Actually, we're taking a field trip to kayak fish for sea trout. I’m taking you to a marsh in Palm Coast, Florida. Palm Coast is a city just north of Flagler Beach in Flagler County Florida. We’re launching at a place called Bing’s Landing and fishing the marsh just west of the launch and east of the golf course. This marsh is fed by the Matanzas inlet which is north of the launch itself. Come along for the ride as we explore the sites and sounds at a new marsh and look for sea trout.
    My theory is that every once in a while you have to test out your skills at a new marsh. Besides the excitement of exploring new waters, you get the opportunity to see if you can spot the right conditions for fish in an unfamiliar place. Bing’s Landing is an excellent spot to launch from, although you have to be careful of the boat traffic around this protected boat launch.

    I just started kayak fishing a few weeks ago and I go out of Bing's and go straight across to that skinny marsh opening that you went through.
    Seeing that you seem to be successful with that area and using only artificial lures is really encouraging. I'm going to stop using frozen shrimp and give your technique a try. Hopefully I can learn to be as successful as you have been. Really enjoy watching a local fishing local waters. Seeing you catch those nice reds, snooks, flounders, and reds make me feel that I might be able to do it too! Thanks for your willingness to share what you've learned with others. Hope to see you out there sometimes. God bless!

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your kind words. You'll certainly be able to catch them...you've got some great waters there. I've found fish all over in those waters. Try going to the right when you get to the first junction, then cutting across the big bay opening and then going left. I've caught flounder against the grass in the big bay opening. Once you take the left past that and head back there's a beautiful marsh with oyster beds back in there on the right....that's somewhat where the fish in this video were caught. You'll recognize that area from the drone shots. Tight lines!

      @@KayakFishingAddict Thanks for the tip Ron. I was able to get out for about 2 hours this evening. Caught my first ever fish on an artificial - a 15" spotted sea trout on the DOA CAL paddle tail I bought at the local Walmart yesterday. You convinced me that I could do it and I left the frozen shrimp at home.
      Five of our oldest children are either out of the house or in college and we still have five at home. I try to take my kids out to kayak with me (we have 3 kayaks), whenever I can convince them to go, but I don't really get to fish much, just spending quality time with them out in the beautiful natural surroundings. Fish on, fish on!

      Kayak Fishing Addict I was told the supply chain hasn't gotten up to speed and the seat manufacturer is behind. The yaks are in short supply across the board. I'm seeing thirty day waits now for ordering a lot of brands. Going to be a lot of newbies out there in the marsh!

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This pandemic is certainly slowing things down. As far as newbies, I'm glad there's enough fish in the marsh for all of us! I'm just going to have to fight the envy of seeing them with the kick up fins while I don't have them. I truly wish Hobie would allow us 2019 owners to trade in our fins for the new ones. But alas, the supply chain problems will likely push anything like that off too! Oh well, guess I shouldn't complain. I hope you get your Compass soon!

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough question as I've been all over that marsh! I tend to make my way back towards the golf course on the south and I explore north of the launch point as well. I move around until I find the right conditions, shortly after that I usually find a few fish. Google maps helps a lot. Put what's in between the brackets [29°37'24.1"N 81°12'53.5"W] into google maps, switch to satellite view, zoom in and you'll see some dark patches. Those are holes that trout like to hang out in if the water is flowing over the hole...as bait fish come across they usually become dinner. I think the trout you see in this video was caught in that very hole. But, I started out in that first "circle" and meandered my way back to the golf course, then north, until I reached this point. The water was flowing and that trout was the result. Your best bet may be to move around until you find the right conditions (current, structure, bait fish, feeding fish, etc.) rather than stay in a single area. Hope that helps.

    Any advice for an angler who has never been on a kayak who is looking to start

    • @KayakFishingAddict
      @KayakFishingAddict  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question....I should really write a blog post about this. Here are the cliff notes of that post. First, congratulations, you're endeavoring to embark on a journey that will bring you great joy, peace, and awe....as well as a lot of fun. That said, it can be expensive and addictive....so watch out for both.
      I'd recommend first knowing yourself. Are you the kind of person that tries something a few times and then jumps to something else? Do you have the time to fish? How many times per year would you say? These questions can help you set a budget for your gear.
      Next, I'd recommend scheduling a trip with a guide in the very waters you intend to fish regularly. The guide should know those waters well and help you understand them better....not just catch a few fish on the day you go out. Watch TH-cam videos and formulate questions to ask the guide on your first trip.
      Now evaluate. Did you enjoy your first trip to the marsh? What did you like about it? What didn't you like about it? Are you ready to go again or was it meh? If it's the former, then scour FB marketplace for a used kayak. Pick up your fishing gear (http;//gear.KayakFishingAddict.com is a great place :)) and allow yourself to fall in love with the sport for a season. Now, re-evaluate. If you're all in, then you can look for a better kayak, etc. If not, pop the one you got back on FB marketplace and call it a day.
      Now, start with a paddle tail, 3/16 oz jighead, and a spinning rod and go put some fish in the boat!

      Kayak Fishing Addict Kayak Fishing Addict hahahha, it’s funny you say that. I got a truck for Father’s Day, so Fishing life should be easier. I think your kayak is better suited for fishing with the pedal drive and all. The Ascend is a good starter kayak, but paddling that tank especially on windy days takes away from the amount of time your bait is in the water. Thanks for linking your gear. They don't have large or sharp teeth. It's more like a very gritty sandpaper. It's safe to lip them.

      @KayakFishingAddict I just moved here 2 months ago. Trying to figure the fishing out. I fish at bings landing. Being in the military I fished all over but it's like I'm learning all new again lol
