Hard to believe I first heard Kate and Anna sing somewhere in the very early 70's! Have been and still pass time with them every once in a while :) And they still sound fabulous. (if anything, they sound even better as time goes by)
so true .. UK only had the cult following ..saw them in London at the Venue .. a good crowd 2000..then in Leeds 8 years later with Libre Siffre and Rufus wainright ..only 80 there at the irish Centre .! crazy granville d clarke (ex foggy dew-O)
Been a McGarrigle fan since first LP came out, but only discovered this amazing video this year. Excellent work on stage and behind the camera, and a truly precious time capsule. RIP Kate and thank you.
I heard this, on the radio, in 1981-1982, and spend endless hours finding the record. Children, MTV had not even gotten to Sweden. - In French, you say?
The setting, the coverage, the era are so hackett, but by god this is majestic. Such attack, such musicianship, and utterly at one with their material. Awesome!!
I love this version. More than the original - more instruments, more emphasis on the syncopated rhythm, depth in voices arragements. Thank you for sharing.
Lots of intros .... Music starts at 1:21 Absolutely loved the whole "French Record". Wonderful to see it done so well on a live stage! (Why is it that the party always kicks into overdrive as soon as the accordian makes an entrance!)
Kirsty MacColl may have covered this song but she didn't write it. It was written by Anna together with Philippe Tatartcheff, who wrote the French lyrics for many of Kate and Anna's songs.
Sunday. She'd been suffering from sarcoma. She was 63. I don't think they'd let the public know about her illness until the death announcement. It was a pretty big blow to a lot of people.
I loved her and Anna, I've been listening to their stuff all night since hearing the news here. Yeah, good old cancer. She was too young to be taken away. I'm surprised at how many of their great songs don't seem to be on TH-cam, like (I don't speak French, so forgive the spelling) E Conte Dances from French Record. Thanks for the reply, take care.
Is the whole concert on dvd somewhere? The extracts are just fabulous. I live in the U.K. and was fortunate enough to see Kate and Anna, plus Jane and their band about 3 times when they toured here. I love them.
I wonder if anyone who loves this music might be familiar with some in my compilation called 'French music-Musique française' . I am missing a few titles/artists . thanks
@Scum71succer Your sensibilities are correct. Don't forget that Cajun is a corruption of Arcadian (from Nova Scotia) and these French-speakers migrated, under duress, to Louisiana.
No way this is better than the studio version. Strange that Anna seemed to be avoiding that important and for this song very characteristic high note that should be sung in head voice. Maybe she didn't trust herself with it live and took away from the song one of its most important features.

R.I.P. Kate. The world is a darker place without you
Lovely memories. Brings me back to Folk Club nights in Dublin Ireland. Knocked me dead when I heard it first. Still is timeless.
Discovered them in the mid 70's and have five of their LP,s. Sadly underrated in the UK. Great song..Great Musicians. Greatly missed..
Underrated in their own town of Montréal.

Thank you for sharing...one of the first songs I remember hearing as a child.😊
I love hearing this song sung in Quebec French.
Wonderful - the McGarrigles are just the best.
Love love love this. Saw Kate and Anna in Maine twice and Quebec once.
My thoughts are with this great musical family tonight. Kate's music will live on.
This song's gotta make ya smile. And Kate's hammer'n that accordion. miss her.........
I lived a couple miles from the Creek...The Red Creek was and still is a very popular place, but......missed them. This song is excellent!
I will listen to this forever
Fantastic! Angels in heaven should sing and play this well!!
This is something truly special
breathtakingaway music, love it!
Totally beautiful art in music...thank you all! Ken Skeen
Love it. For me it's Montreal in a nutshell, at least around the 25th of November.
Warm and wonderful in every way : D

It was a pretty big blow to a lot of people.
Toutes nos condoléances à la famille McGarrigle.
My favorite song.
@awf1970 It was mostly popular in Québec. They lived in the Montréal area. Thanks for watching this great song

Inte ger man fan i politiken...
+Jägarvägen ... för att man är konventionell!
Actually it appeared even earlier, on Kate and Anna's 1975 debut album ("Kate and Anna McGarrigle").
Top stuff!
meilleurs des meilleurs

Before Rufus Wainwright were the sisters. Beautiful.
Shirley Anderson I believe he was a son
"Moi j'mange de la tire Sainte-Catheriiiiiiiiiine !"

Belle imitation du Bye Bye 84 pour une belle chanson !
So cute :)

Pat Donaldson. Once Fotheringay. Folk royalty him.
kdeze complaint moet ook in de 2000! Maar hoe doe je dat?
mee eens! mooie uitvoering.
whats the name of the fiddler? the guy who plays that violine like a god..
Gilles Losier. Kate introduces him (and the rest of the band) in this clip.
Thank you! now i cant light up mi cigarr and enjoy.
Kate died? NOOOOO!!! When? How?
Didnt know this was a famous song (probably in France!) In the UK however, Kirsty Maccoll nails this one!!
The drummer is murdering this with his over-emphasis on the upbeat. Talk about unsubtle.

look at all them white faces
Nice,eh!
