    Congratulations on a successful mission in the P-40, the engine management in that aircraft takes up so much more effort than any of the other aircraft in game, I have been downed more by engine issues in the aircraft than enemy fire

    The P40 is more of a boom and zoom'er compared to the Hurricane. A suggestion would be to try and build as much energy as you can and try to maintain it. Getting in a turn fight, she's heavy compared to something like a 109, so try to avoid it. She wont turn like the Mig, Hurricane or Spit

    You remove the outer guns because you get way more ammunition and 1600 rounds really isn't enough for 6 guns. It's what alot of russian pilots did because 4 fifties was still more than they were used too.

      If he could try and conserve his ammo/aim for the cockpit or something, he might be able to use his 1600 rounds nicely with 6 guns

    Good comment by Saber 8. Dive on your opponent, shoot, regain altitude. Try to avoid a turning fight unless you have a wingman. Then you can use the "Thatch Weave." Google it.
    The landing gear on the P-40 isn't as wide tracked as the Hurricane. You ground-looped on your landing. I think your airspeed may have been a bit too high on the landing... then you stalled it and bounced. Don't get on the brakes when you bounce because you don't know which wheel will touch down first. It's like landing a Spit or a 109.

    Look at that old gyroscope. The old P40 suffered on the top end up high but was a tight turner at medium speeds. It had that Allison engine that wasn’t as powerful as the Packard Merlin.

    First off I thought the .50 cals didn't pack as big a punch as I'd thought. But then again German aircraft had armored protection compared to the Japanese. P-40 isn't a turn fighter to be sure. This is going to be very interesting. Keep up the great work Taff

    Good thing about a 50 cal. compared to a 303: more stopping power and penetration. Which means better damage on enemy planes.

    • @timonsolus
      @timonsolus 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The .50 cal heavy machine gun indeed fires larger bullets than the .303 cal light machine gun. But the .50 cal also has a slower rate of fire than the .303.
      The Hurricane with 12 .303’s fires roughly 3 times as many bullets in a 1 second burst than the P-40 with 6 .50’s.

    Question for the more experienced IL2 campaign players - I've come across a bug where my pilot is scheduled for the second mission in a day only, but once the first mission auto-resolves, the roster updates and he's no longer on the mission. If I'm on the first mission of the day I can do that mission, but if I'm on the second I invariably get removed. This results in days and days of no actual missions until I'm lucky enough to be rostered on the first mission. I've tried googling it and found very little, and the IL2 forums never loaded at all when I found what looked like a discussion about it. Anyone else experienced this, and more importantly found a way to fix it?

    Flying the US's bargain bin aircraft now, are we? Well, best be careful not to be below or at equal altitude to your enemy. It may be as tough as a brick, but it flies like one to. Best to drop it from someones head or fling it directly at someone rather than try and curve it like a baseball.

    A 12 ounce mirror wouldn't cause you to lose top speed lol. Besides that you may try the 4 mgs. It's lighter and more agile, but obviously lose 2 guns...

    • @_Meriwether
      @_Meriwether 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The mirror is mounted externally, causing aerodynamic drag. The weight is less of a concern.
      The P-39's mirror is interior for that very reason, Bell were pretty good about that.

    @UC_GptY4_8dxnQd_iFMSnuNQ, I wish you had looked further north on the map and found another Hurricane squadron, rather than switching planes in mid campaign. The Hurricane was the MOST used lend-lease fighter in the Soviet Union, and was surely still in service closer to Moscow.
    Since you are using the P-40, you might want to increase your convergence distance. You're not firing spitballs anymore. Actually, the .50 cals hit just as hard as the German 20mm cannon, due to their much higher muzzle velocity. Force = mass x velocity². Add to that the .50s had more than double the rate of fire, AND the fact you're firing six .50s (SICK FIDDIES!) compared to the 109s' two cannons, and you have a HUGE advantage. Oh, and USE YOUR THROTTLE! You keep overshooting the Stuka when all you have to do is roll up behind him and shoot him down.
    When landing, you have to allow for the TORQUE of the engine. In the air, it makes your plane roll, but once you touch down, that transitions to yaw...pulling your plane off to one side. Right as you touch down, cut the engine to idle, raise the flaps all the way, and steer with the rudder BEFORE you ever begin braking.
    2:36 - SIT-ni-kov
    3:19 - Although there was fierce close-quarters, house-to-house fighting, the Soviets never completely LOST Stalingrad.
    5:55 - You MIGHT want a couple more notches of flaps there, Trofim ol' sod.

  • @colindouglas7769
    @colindouglas7769 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good grief, Taff! That crate took about half an hour to get off the ground. Either you forgot to wind up the rubber band to the max or your obsession with adding in flaps on your take-off had something to do with it. Take your pick. I'd say, adding flaps in on take-off only adds drag and slows you down which is kind of not what you want when you're taking off. Also, the P-40 is not a turn fighter like the Hurricane; it is a boom-n-zoom fighter. You need to get above your enemy and dive on him and extend away and climb back up before making another attack. If you try to turn fight with a 109 in the P-40, he will chew your ass off something rotten! I believe a TH-camr called Der Sheriff has covered the P-40 in his "How To ..." series of videos; it may be beneficial you having a squiz. Looking forward to seeing how Trofim fares, though!

    That P40 is certainly no Hurricane, packs a punch though!
    You don’t need more flap for take off btw, you need no flap. Fighters don’t use take off flap so you’re just adding a ton of drag.
