  • This is a viewer request to show the anti-reverse clutch assembly in an earlier Shimano Sedona 2500FB reel. It applies to Mose Shimano Sedona and other models of that era. I take the assembly off of the reel and explain how to take it apart and reassemble.
    I have been servicing fishing reels for over 20 years and am sharing my experiences here. If you enjoy the video, please subscribe to see more.

    Them Anti-reverse are a night mare will never take one apart again all them little springs and Bearings only go in a certain way takes quite a bit to put them back together not worth bothering them if there broke bye a new one I love your videos your good at fixing cleaning and greasing them 😅

    Hi Dennis, I have been struggling with a Sahara 2500FD with the same anti reverse clutch. Poor intermittent operation. I watched your prior videos, but this time I finally got the tip I needed from this video. The new hint you mentioned in this is about the sleeve that rides on the roller bearing being installed wide vs. narrow side. Once I flipped the sleeve so the wide side fully rides on the rollers, she runs perfectly. I can put it back on a rod now. Thanks so much A+++++++++.

      That is great news! There are so many parts in fishing reels that can be installed upside down, backwards, etc. that will drive us crazy as we swear we have put it back together correctly. That is why I recommend taking pictures along the way and not leaving the reinstall to memory. Thanks for watching. Good luck catching lots of fish with your restored reel - Dennis

      Will do Tim. I'm glad it was what you were looking for in the video. These are like a jack in the box ready to shoot out at any time. It takes doing these a few times to get the confidence up to do it regularly - Stay tuned - Dennis

    I fish using the override which is why I like these Shimanos. I have a Sonora and a Sedona and enjoy using them.

      A lot of us like the feature, but I guess we are in the minority, or the engineers just thought it was cheaper to eliminate it than to design the function into the reel. Thanks Chris

    That bearing takes some xpertese if you decide to take apart and put pack. Long as it's clean just oil it from outside.

      Agree, although I have become pretty good at putting these back together for folks that opened them up and had the bearings and springs fall out! Thanks for watching Michael - Dennis

    I never really understood how these work. Do the bearings in the clutch stop rotating when the anti reverse is switched on? Thanks

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The speed of the rotor pushes the bearing out, which compresses the springs and allows the reel to be cranked. When you stop, the springs push the bearing in to connect with the sleeve and stop the backwards movement

      I don't have that one, but I think the attached video will be very close. The reel has markings on the main gear that need to be aligned with the crosswind gear. This video should show how it is done. You can also get the schematic online here www.reelschematic.com/wp-content/uploads/schematics/Shimano/Syncopate/SYNCOPATE%20SC2500FE%282007%29.pdf It will also show you how to align the gears in the inset picture - Dennis

      Did you take the anti-reverse bearing off and disassemble it? If you did, you may have misaligned the roller bearings and springs inside. If you took it off, but did not open it up, then the most likely cause of your problem is that you installed the rotor ring ( the inner sleeve that goes on the pinion gear shaft) upside down. The ring has an offset taper. Try turning it top to bottom on how you have it installed now and see if that makes the difference - These are best guesses. Let me know if that helps - Dennis

      @@2ndChanceTackle I remember seeing that roller and it was like beveled on one end, I just don't remember how I put it. I will try and let you know, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.
