The Osbourne Family lights will end this year at Hollywood Studios. The Osbourne family used to set up a fantastic lights display for their children and it grew so big that they couldn't contain it at their home. Disney bought the rights to the display.
As Adam talks about the SciFi Dine-In, you could hear the Whiz Kids soundtrack in the background--a 1980's TV show about a kid who was good with computers and solved mysteries. So cool!
Dude, I love you guys! Thanks, Justin and Adam. I lived in Florida for the past 15 years and have yet to step into Disney World. It's a money thing. That's why I want to say thanks for the tours, because I've been wanting to see the inside of that place,, since I was a little kid in 1971. I remember when Disney World, Orlando first opened and I was from New Jersey. There was so much hype and I thought I was going to go with my family, then our trip was cancelled. All these years, and now I live here and still looking from the outside in. But since you and Adam are there now,..... dude it's awesome, thanks. Hey if I had more money and a house of my own, I would definitely invite you and Adam over. You guys have a great time and be safe!
Hey, Justin! The outside of the Star Tours attraction is themed to be a film set. This is why most features, like the AT-AT, are modelled as façade's, and the inner structures and lighting are visible. After all, Disney Hollywood Studios is supposed to look like it's where movies are made. However, as soon as you enter the blast doors ( 19:40 ), you cross over into the movies and are officially in the world of Star Wars, starting at the Star Tours Spaceport. Fun Fact: The Tatooine Traders gift shop used to be called "Endor Vendors" and was themed to Endor. The façade was modeled after the backdoor of the Endor shield generator bunker. You can still see remnants of the theming on the walls underneath the Ewok Village.
I worked costuming for the Indiana Jones stunt show during my college program. It took a long time before I got over the music cues. I couldn't really enjoy the show without feeling I was supposed to be getting ready to pull tank tops on the stunt guys. Star Tours at MGM is one of my favorite themed ride queues. Especially later at night, when that section of the park empties out, it gets quiet and you can hear the Ewok's singing echoing through the entire area.
I'd be curious to know if they use the any of the Star Tours ride queue as stages for Star Wars weekends, as I've never been. But, it's supposed to be designed like a movie set I believe. Which is why the back half of everything shows the steel beams, stage lights and catwalks.
The Osborn lights stuff was actually this guy's house decorations originally. He even bought a couple extra houses [I don't know if that is true or if his neighbors just let him decorate their houses too] but all those lights covered a couple houses and yards for a christmas light show. I believe he either died or it was too expensive to keep doing so his family let Hollywood Studios have it. There is also a ton of hidden mickeys to find in the lights ;) and a seemingly out of place halloween decoration if you can find it :D
A lot of people (Disneyland die Hards) are hating on the idea and what will soon be real , Star Wars land , I think it is absolutely going to blow people's minds .....
+Riley Ulrich I like the Star Wars land idea, but Disneyland is Walt's park. They need to leave it the same as he designed it! They should put it somewhere in Disney California Adventure.
+Tbone1725 I would definitely agree if they were knocking down Fantasyland or Main Street, but the area of the park they're putting it in has already changed a lot. No ToonTown or Big Thunder Mountain in Walt's day! :) Besides, much of the land they're using is currently backstage area.
Reluctant Dragon True, but Big Thunder Mountain seems more like something Walt would do along with ToonTown, Splash Mountain, etc. Star Wars Land just doesn't fit in with the park in my opinion.
The Endor Moon area was not made to look like "star wars land." The reason why the backside bars are so noticeable is because they wanted you to admire the creation of movie sets.
I absolutely love the singing!! I am so upset cuz I can't finish this video right now... i'll be back... gotta go do the mom thing... but i love this so far.. XD
Seeing the AT-AT was awesome. Great video Justin. Thanks to you and Adam for bringing us along with you this week. Seeing the joy on your faces all week as you entered each park was incredible. I will have to get to WDW soon. Looking forward to your return to Disneyland maybe tomorrow or Saturday.
when did they put up the ropes on the sidewalks of Streets of America? When I was there you could walk up the stairs or go up to the doors of the shops and such
OH MAI GAWD OH MAI GAWD IS THATA LIFESIZE AT-AT????????????? ICANNOT! IMUST BUT ICANNOT!!! I love them so much...... despite being a rebel supporter and hating the empire.... I love those giant trunkless elephants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I worked on the movie "Newsies." It did not film in Florida. It was shot entirely in California. Most of the outdoor scenes were shot at the Universal Studios backlot. Some of them were at shot at Disney Studios.
The Osbourne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights was named after Jennings Osbourne a philanthropist from Arkansas. He had something like 3 million lights on his house and neighboring house and the neighbors complained. So Disney offered to display them at Hollywood Studios on Residential Street. Later it was moved to the Streets of America. And since Disney has added 2-3 million more lights and they are syncronized to music. Jennings Osbourne passed away a couple years ago.
I heard the reason they stopped using it as a real movie set was because you could hear the sounds from the rest of the park... music and kids screaming and stuff. :-D Not sure if it's true but it's pretty funny.
As a Disney World person I always go to Disney World because it's right below me it's funny to see the reactions because you've never been it's like OMG the great movie ride yes it is awesome but I could skip it because I've been on it so many times and you think it's like the best thing ever it's so funny we go to Disney World like every year
The Osbourne family spectacle lights came from Arkansas from a family that happens to have the last name of Osbourne. I grew up in Little Rock and remember driving by their gigantic house as a kid and seeing all of the lights that are now on display at WDW. The lights were donated back in 1995.
I just want to point out that the reason the STar Tours exterior has all of those catwalks is not in fact because of Star Wars WEekends- they've been there since the ride opened. The theme is not that you are on Endor- it is that you are on the Endor movie SET. That's not a real AT-AT, that's a prop. After all, you're in Hollywood Studios- you're supposed to be seeing a behind the scenes thing. But because the actual ride wasjust a carbon copy of the ride in california, it quickly drops the behind the scenes bit once you get inside.
In the 90s they used to film WCW live tapings at MGM studios! They would pull park guests to be part of the audience. A lot of WWE/WCW wrestlers live in the central FL area so it was convenient for them.
why do people always look at the negatives of the prequels, there's a lot of good stuff in the prequels, for example: John Williams's music, Anakin's character, Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan, the fact they exist while I still think the originals are superior, I still think that the prequels are not that bad as everyone makes it out to be
You might not be calling it Disney's Hollywood Studios either for Long it's going to be called Disney's Hollywood adventure or Disney's Florida adventure they're not sure yet but I'm pretty sure you Allready know that
The star tours chime is my text tone, can't wait for star wars land!!!
Fantastic Video! Thumbs up for Adam the Woo imitating Emporer Palpatine! Haha!
The outside is setup as a movie set so that's why you can see the scaffolding in the sets.
I'm sorry but 17:38 had me rolling!!!!..hahahaha
Awesome vlog Justin!!
The At-At used to simulate shooting its laser cannons, with sound effects and smoke it was awesome!
Loved this vlog. Thanks Justin and Adam

As Adam talks about the SciFi Dine-In, you could hear the Whiz Kids soundtrack in the background--a 1980's TV show about a kid who was good with computers and solved mysteries. So cool!
I was able to go to Star Wars weekends this year.
The At-At used to shoot water.
I got the Ewok Village and Jabba the Hutt a along with about 40 figures for Christmas back in the day. Wish I had them still.

Hey Justin this video was up for 5 minutes yesterday before you took it down
HBO filmed the mini series From the Earth to the Moon there.
I worked on the movie "Newsies." It did not film in Florida. It was shot entirely in California. Most of the outdoor scenes were shot at the Universal Studios backlot. Some of them were at shot at Disney Studios.

SciFi Dine-In Theater and Star Tours are two of my favorite places at WDW.
