JW 00 I'm not saying you're definitely wrong, but people aren't jumping to conclusions when they say Kaworu is gay because there is evidence behind it. Anno wrote in a book that Kaworu is Shinji's "homosexual love interest". There's also a game called NGE2 (which Anno contributed to and said that anyone who had questions about the series could find the answer there) where the guide says that Kaworu's romantic feelings towards the opposite sex are weak, whereas his feelings for Shinji are strong and they should have a "love-love" relationship. Within that game, they're one of the few couples who can have a love confession in the storyline (the others are Misato/Kaji, Touji/Hikari, etc.). In the 2nd draft for episode 24 that Anno wrote, Kaworu even kisses him. There's an official guide that refers to him as Shinji's "lover." Also This next part isn't nessasarily canon but pretty much all the officially licensed Evangelion spin offs that Kaworu appears in have him expressing romantic/sexual feelings towards Shinji, including the official manga. In the comedy drama CD, Asuka's nickname for him is literally "homo-boy". On the other hand, I'm almost sure that neither Anno nor anyone from the production team has ever said that Kaworu is meant to represent Jesus, or that he doesn't understand romantic love. It seems like it's only western fans who push that Kaworu = Jesus line because they associate the fact that he sacrifices himself with Jesus I guess. Again, I'm not saying your interpretation that Kaworu only loves Shinji like Jesus is wrong, honestly it's valid. He can be seen as a Messianic figure in a way. But you don't have to be so quick in dismissing people who think that Kaworu is gay as "jumping to conclusions" when there's so much evidence that he can be seen that way as opposed very little/no evidence that he's just Jesus and doesn't understand romance. Even if he was a Jesus-like character, that doesn't mean he can feel romantic love, considering that he's not literally just Jesus. (Especially in rebuild, where he seems solely focused on Shinji's happiness. Only caring about one person doesn't seem very "Jesus" to me. On top of that, the 3.0 poster has explicit star-crossed lover symbolism; more proof that Kawoshin is meant to be seen as romantic from both sides.) Sorry for the essay ;_;
