  • This is a small class project made by me and a couple of friends which seeks to answer the question "What does Garvey mean to Rastafari? What are the ways in which this is expressed in the cultural and ideological ethos of Rastafari?" Enjoy. Please note that the contents of this project was not fully credited and we do not own the rights to songs used.

Amazing documentary about the incredible Marcus Garvey. He often mentioned the Irish in his speeches and even sent our freedom fighters a telegram offering support when we were fighting the colonists for independence in the 1920s. One love from Ireland

I hate the fact that we aren't taught about this true leader... I love talking with my African American peers about what this man did for human rights and gets no recognition... Instead u hold people like Drake and Travis Scott in regard, it's a sad world

I learned about MARCUS MOSIAH GARVEY in prison from my rasta brethren and love this man like a father.I told mother to buy the philosophy and opinions of Marcus Garvey it changed my mentality of the CREATOR,LIFE,and my AFRICAN PEOPLE;I was by myself in that for 11 years and I was able to review my own LIFE in reflection to LIFE itself.I still have that and believe it or ain't page bent in it because I wrote in it to please not bend a page back pleas and I've been free since 2007.when I say MARCUS GARVEY NAME. I feel a sense of love, pride and honor that I've never felt before and say to myself why are we not taught about him as children because to be honest when I saw photos of GARVEY j i used to wonder who is this Fatman with this funny hat on,but now I will wear any image of him so happily.

Thank for this informative and beautifully executed doc. It's a shame that Mr. Garvey is not well known in the education system (USA.) I read only a paragraph or so about him in a college course. From other comments here, it seems as though this is all too common.

Ras has to place more emphasis the Biblical connections to Marcus Garvey program and focus more on program of and those based on that of Marcus Garvey. Also every Ras should by best of own ability grow a portion of their own food. Just as in many places on the Continent it is considered Divine and it is of creation and bonds us closer to nature which is Divine. Forward ever up ye mighty race.
