These two sweethearts should never have broken up! With Paul's poetical, lyrical writings, and Art's angelic voice... This was a combination made in heaven. I'm still heartbroken after all these years, that they aren't even friends now. Still, we are blessed to have experienced them, and although I was born years after their beginnings, I am a die hard fan. I love them both.
I feel he was a little overshadowed by Paul's immense talent but he does have the voice of an angel. Like those choir boys. And his eyes look so luminous.
Every little word, every little syllable, every little intonation is in synch. Amazing! Must have taken a lot of work. Not accidental! They made beautiful music just singing with a guitar.....
You both didn't understand the comment. It didn't say it required a lot of work from Paul Simon to write, create the songs, but for them to reach this perfect synchronization and harmony of their voices. The technical work required to reach this symbiotic perfection and precision. That no doubt required much work. Though maybe, at a certain point it became so acquired for them to be almost automatic, as if they were a whole while singing.
The innocence of the artists of the day ...it was special.....and these two they were very serious most of the time..... when people had something to say!
I’m the youngest of 5 siblings and I remember the day my oldest sister brought home their greatest hits album. I’d sneak and listen every time she left the house. I was hooked on these two at an early age. I never got to see them live so I watch over and over and over their concert in Central Park. It’s just magical. Makes me sad to think I’ll never see them play together again. I tear up a little when they sing “Old Friends” as the time has come where “it’s strange to be 70.”❤️
I used to sneak in my brother's room and play it over and over He was the oldest and had the only record player 😊 Your post made me smile with my memory of S & G. Thank you
Adore them both & absolutely adored “59th BRIDGE STREET SONG”( my favorite!) I hear tossing & it immediately puts a smile on my face! Extraordinary “ SIMON & GARFUNKEL!” Hysterical w/ “Smothers Brothers” chiming in! Loved HOMEWARD BOUND.... ALL THEIR SONGS “PERIOD!”( Smothers Brothers were soooo funny too! They are a riot on this video!)
I found and bought a vinyl copy of Bookends in a used bookstore for a dollar (even though I still have the copy I bought in 1981 when I was 13) and inside was the original New York Times review of the album from May 5 1968, perfectly preserved and long forgotten. A treasure within a treasure. ❤
2020! Still love them both. Simon and Garfunkle PLUS Smothers Brothers! 😂🥰 Yes, still Feelin’ Groovey! 62 here, but felling 17!,! Thanks for the upload!

I would give my right arm (I am left handed), to be able to sing like either one of these guys... and to be able to play guitar like Paul Simon, amazing!
Artie knew that mustache would annoy Paul so he most definitely kept it to agitate him, That’s what good friends do to each other from time to time,, Old Friends,,,,
Paul Simon used a couple of the same guitars throughout his career. Here, his custom Guild looks brand-spanking new, before it turned dark amber with age. A big part of that duo's history. Unlike Art's mustache.
steve b And what’s truly amazing he claims having finished the song “a week ago” and his playing is spotlessly identical to that on the “Bookends” track!
I don't like that thatch on Artie's top Lip! I think he was feeling all grown up so grew one to prove the point. Wonder if he looks back at it and think... What the heck 😂
Had they just been on a episode of Star Trek before singing "Feelin Groovy"? Wouldn't have pictured Art a doctor and Paul as a who knows what they did extra, but ya just never know.
The last song Paul Simon introduces, Overs, I've never heard. It truly shows his musical, lyrical, and instrumental genius. The style of this music is more like improvised jazz, almost a bossa nova style, as most of the guitar cording he uses, is diminished and augmented, more familiar to jazz chord structures. A brilliant instrumental accompaniment to their singing of this duet.
Omg haha I kept cracking up during 59th street bridge song performance. They look like such nerdy, awkward guys, especially in those sweaters. I love how Paul awkwardly tries to laugh it off the whole time whereas Art always remains kind of stoic and more serious while he sings. Those two are such characters!
OWW WOW! Hearing Simon, Garfunkel and the Smothers Brothers sing together a bit. Saw Art Garfunkel sitting in row behind mine at the Hollywood Bowl about 91'. It was a Paul Simon Concert. Interesting tidbit Art was wearing a skirt. He wanted everyone to cooperate with Simon and moaned about that during the performance. Friend he was with mention how Paul Simon was at the beginning (45 minutes) late and that "we" should storm the stage. (Umm not ME). But I said "YES".😵😵
I'm always interested in the evolution of the insturments these 60s and 70s artists played... as the industry and builders technology improved . And as the success brought better money too....paul played a martin in the earliest days...he moved on to gibson and here a guild jumbo...later a Yamaha equivalent....these days hes back to Martin's om models mostly
Paul Simon apparently doesn't like singing "feelin groovy". In the background Art Garfunkel is very serious, whereas Paul Simon looks as though he's having fun.

Art Garfunkel has the voice of an Angel.......Amazing talent.
are you quoting him ?

Dog's right you know, but it (he/she?) doesn't hold it against you.
Crazy are the ones that don't like this song, one of the grooviest to me!

Not really. Simon often mentions that many of the songs came to him 90% complete. McCartney said the same thing. The gift.
A genius has a gift..... the kiss of inspiration...
Hard work? Only for those who want to outbalance their lack of genius...

Not even the Foxtrot Party song was that fun! No way!
I reckon that Art Garfunkel had a powerful voice. Instead Paul Simon was a better song writer
The innocence of the artists of the day ...it was special.....and these two they were very serious most of the time..... when people had something to say!
