Wow this one was a hard one so many explosions and stuff
some of the SFX was not removable and thus it sounds a little crappy
so forgive me about that and enjoy

Arguably the best episode of RTD's era for me, just ahead of Midnight with Blink not far behind. The Waters of Mars is just such a fantastic story, and it's a really good beginning of the end for Ten.
Storm Crow for me, Midnight is my favourite. Not story wise or anything like that, just due to the downright terror. The tensest episode I believe ever!
The Impossible Planet/Satan Pit/Waters Of Mars if my favourite episodes for when im feeling dark and deep
Feel like turn left is also brilliant but underrated, it shows a whole alternate possibility and wonderfully demonstrates why the doctor needs someone.
This is probably my favorite Who episode of all, although Day of the Doctor and Blink follow it close behind.
You literally just named my top 3. Doomsday also holds a special place in my heart; the music was just *chefs kiss*
David’s acting in this episode was one of his best! The way he just stood there and looked at them as they ran around, when he had enough and really tried to change a fixed point and that conversation with Adelaide at the end was just, as he puts it, “brilliant!”
He is by far the best.
I love how it starts with all the strange strange creatures.
It makes it feel almost like business as usual at first.
“The doctor figured out a solution and now he’s here to heroically save the day”
But then the flood knocks, and we realize the headspace the doctor is in, the music switches.
He’s doing this for himself more than the crew on the station.
He’s trying to prove that he is more powerful than the laws of time because if he is, then he can also defy HIS approaching death.
And then the flood scream, almost personifying some horrifying beast that is hunting the doctor, and he has made very angry with his attempt to undermine it.
This is proooobably my favorite doctor who moment, but I’m a 10th doctor simp. I ain’t even ever seen a single 4th doctor episode.
DOCTOR: Mia, take this sealant, fix that leak. Yuri, open emergency oxygen. Adelaide, don't just sit there. That's better. The Dome's still got integrity! It's ten feet of steel-combination, made in Liverpool. Magnificent workmanship.
ADELAIDE: It can't be stopped. Don't die with us.
DOCTOR: No, because someone told me just recently. They said I was going to die. They said he will knock four times, and I think I know what that means, and it doesn't mean right here, right now, because I don't hear anyone knocking, do you?
(Andy thumps three times on the bulkhead door.)
DOCTOR: Three knocks is all you're getting.
(He electrifies the bulkhead.)
DOCTOR: Water and electricity, bad mix. Now then, what else have we got?
ADELAIDE: But there's no way to fight them.
DOCTOR: Heat! They use water, so we can use heat. Works against the Ice Warriors, works against the Flood. Ramp up the environment controls and steam them.
ADELAIDE: But you said we die. For the future, for the human race.
DOCTOR: Yes, because there are laws. There are Laws of Time. Once upon a time there were people in charge of those laws, but they died. They all died. Do you know who that leaves? Me! It's taken me all these years to realise the Laws of Time are mine, and they will obey me!
(Bang! Sparks! Alarms!)
ADELAIDE: Environment controls are down. Sorry, Doctor, it looks like history's got other ideas.
DOCTOR: I'm not beaten yet. I'll go outside, find the heat regulator.
(His spacesuit helmet is damaged.)
DOCTOR: Not beaten. Not beaten! You've got spacesuits in the next section.
(But water is pouring through the ceiling.)
DOCTOR: We're not just fighting the Flood, we're fighting time itself. And I'm going to win!

My god, David Tennant absolutely crushed season 4 with his performances. He was incredible. GIVE HIM AN AWARD 🥇!
Despite all of the "The Time Lord Victorious is wrong!", I actually...think 10 did something correct, here.
While his end stance of "I can do no wrong, nothing can stop me, I'm the winner" was over the top, Mia and Yuri would have died if not for him. Adelaide could have been taken somewhen else, far into humanity's future, and given a fresh start without interrupting anything else.
Saving Mia and Yuri, despite the proclamation that they were "little people", is a good thing. Those are two people who got to lead full lives, that otherwise would've been tragically cut short. Plus, their knowledge of The Flood would likely allow humanity to better prepare for future Martian missions, thereby cutting down upon later casualties.
Timelord VS Time is an incredibly interesting theme, and honestly one I could've rallied behind as the core outline for an entire series. If there was another series between 4 and 5 (...beyond the half-series of specials, shoosh), this is something I would've enjoyed.
The Timelord Victorious may be wrong, but I would've loved to see the Doctor come to some partially-utilitarian compromise. Maybe everyone can't be saved, but who is to say you can't cheat the fixed points in time? Save Mia and Yuri, let them inform humanity of the dangers posed by the Flood, and give Adelaide a second chance at life: show her, personally, the results of her steadfast dedication to reach for the stars.
Yeah, the intervention wasn't what was wrong. It was the arrogance that came with it. And I think the Doctor realizes that, and its why he's so shaken at the end. Adelaide didn't die because it was fate. She died because he screwed up.
@@antonbrakhage490 I agree with you that Adelaide killed herself not because it was fate, but because she just wanted to. As proven a plenty of times before and after the Waters of Mars, the fixed points can be changed if you really try to do that.
She killed herself because a) she wanted her daughter to still follow her steps, and she knew it would highly likely not happen if she stayed alive, and b) she was frightened that the Doctor would keep on changing time to what he wants.
The Doctor hasn't got enough wisdom for that. Despite what the person that tried to hack the universe in School Reunion says, the Doctor would not manage to decide what would be truly good for the universe. Probably, no one would manage that.
That would fit so well with the Doctor's mission of making not just people, but *history* better. I can't help but think if he'd had Rose and/or Donna with him, it would've ended like that - he saves the few people he can, takes Adelaide to the future so she can reap the benefits of her sacrifice, and lets things progress from there with the core of the fixed point intact.
Yea essentially what he’s trying to do is actually right, but the way he does it is very wrong, and if he continued down that path he would have done far worse things
In fact I think he actually does do exactly that in the big finish audios. Also can someone explain how the time lord victorious audios fit in the timeline, because it just doesn’t make sense since the whole time lord victorious thing seems to begin and end in waters of mars.

Doctor Who 2005-2010 Really went out with a bang here, they were going out with their heads held high and nothing to lose. The shows came a long way since Christopher Eccleston and Slitheen's in Downing Street.

I don't want to spoile anything but... if you look Series 10's trailer, there is a big chance the Waters from Mars are coming back. :)
It's a fantastic episode, but Heaven Sent beats it into the top spot for me, with that amazing soundtrack, really novel premise, and a great performance from Capaldi.
I never realized this before but the string usage from 0:45 kind of sounds like the Master's uppy-downy strings from his theme in Series 3 and the End of Time. It may be coincidence but it musically shows how similar the Doctor and the Master are and why they were friends in the first place. They have the same beliefs but use them in different ways. Just something to think about

Is it me, or do the explosions and hissing at the Strange Creatures bit make it cooler?
Oh man this is good! I love the way some of the explosions are still there, and the klaxons, I just wish it didn’t drop in volume whenever floods of water happened, I’d rather hear the water than a drop in volume.

For the bit where the flood are screaming it sounds like you removed whatever sound effect they used to make the screams inhuman, but left the human screams.
This track really feels like I Am The Doctor is suddenly going to break out for most of the track. The setup or lack thereof works perfectly from Murray Gold.

I am so sad this was never released, though sadly due to scheduling and stuff (especially the specials) it was very hard to release tracks so they sometimes end up jsut having to release whatever they can.

No. This was Ten taking the Doctor too far- just like Twelve did in Hell Bent, and Eleven in A Good Man Goes to War. This is Ten's darkest hour. He was so Doctor-ish, he stopped being the Doctor and became the Time Lord Victorious.
