Andrew, Toyota USA's hybrid strategy with trucks and SUV's (new gen) is to focus on the torque curve and performance leveraging the instant torque from the batteries to "fill in" for the low rev power needs of the vehicle before the twin turbo kicks in. I have driven the new Tundra and Sequoia (both V6 twin turbo's available with hybrid) and it works brilliantly. There is very little added fuel economy (about 1 mpg) given the trades they've made on that hybrid system and the focus.

00:51 Toyota Landcruiser Hybrid, there is one big advantage that is not often talked about with hybrids is that they can come with 3kw ac power using that hybrid batteries. So you don't have to carry extra batteries etc.

Hello Andrew. New follower, love the content. I recognized your voice from previously watched videos or bbc? Anyway I dig your videos, vlogs and your builds are……brilliant. I’m over here in the US. I envy the trips you’ve taken across aus and would love to one day do similar. But, currently I’m here in USA and heard you answer a question: trip thru US. You’d love to but you need the right car. Well I actually got to thinking, we may not have the right car…..yet. You helped pave the way for roof conversions in LCs in SA and they are everywhere…..except here. In the US. I dare say my friend you may be the chap to forge this path over here in yank land. Here’s my thought: currently a very popular car to 4wheel and overland in here is the Toyota 4Runner. Body on frame. Wagon type chassis. And pretty much bullet proof. However, no one has forged the path of the roof conversion. I did minor googling, only found the question asked in a forum. I think, perhaps you are the man to assist, urge or to simply find an outfitter here in the states willing to outfit a 4Runner with a roof top conversion. It might not work but I think you are savvy enough to look into this and if early in your research you find it’s impossible well, you will acknowledge such. But I think a trans America trip in an outfitted 4R converted to your specs, could make for an epic series (basically converting a 4R to a similar truck as your LC). There is a company here that can convert the 4R petrol 4.0 5sp auto to a diesel 2.8/ auto 6 or, OR a manual 6 then the roof conversion and proper kit out obviously. I reckon you could give it hell. I wish you and yours the best in any and all endevours and look forward to your 2.8 build in aus. Cheers merry Christmas happy new year

From an Afrikaans speaking, Pajero driving, Cadac using viewer who just purchased a small offroad caravan, i enjoy your content and thank you for it. I personaly agree with you re. drivers here. We must be some of the worst. I am dreading leaving on trips these days because of the stress of driving on local roads in populated areas. (Yes, i have driven up to Tanzania via the length of Mozambique with my Pajero and trailer in tow without a single issue). I have also gotten soft going on local roads, probably because i am getting older and not commuting anymore. I still have one of your early 4x4 books from before online content was available! Took it on all my early trips as a reference. I bought it from you personally one year during one of the 'off-road shows' many years ago.

Andrew you said that it is possible to overland in almost any vehicle. To prove this I was in contact with a guy who has overlanded Namibia and a number of other places in an olf fiat UNO with all the seats removed except for the drivers seat. The passenger side of the vehicle was converted into a bed. It worked for him.

Ha Ha. In Oz the grey nomads know their fuel bill is significantly lower if they travel at between 90 kmh and 100 kmh. Yes, most drivers want to go at 110, ( or 120 or 130 ) but, they know, there's nothing you can do about the greys. There's lots of us, and there's only one thing to do. Patience. Irritated Patience.

Hahahahahaha rules in ZA dont exist Andrew just like the yellow lines. Saying that the B roads and sand roads in ZA are some of the best. One of my last trips from Knysna to Jozi took 10 hours longer because we took the path less travelled. The motor ways in ZA are generally just crazy and I completely agree with you. Was debating doing a drive up from Cape Town to Jozi in November but the thought of using the highway all the way put me off. If you are prepared to do the back roads and pot holes :) . One sad point for me is the gradual neglect of the B raods

Driving in UAE annoys me greatly, especially the traffic. I could rant on it for ages. Simply because it is senseless-traffic. Its always caused by those who think they're superior or smarter than everyone else and drive along side and cut in front - causing a bottleneck, where there wouldn't be. They do it at traffic lights, highway exits and it is annoying. It once took me 3 hours to do a 45 minute drive because people were driving on the hard shoulder and cutting in front for an exit. Stuck there, I even tweeted saying that those who obey the rules of the road deserve to go home too. What's worse is that the Police don't do anything about it. They won't. I tried to complain on the toll free hotline about people breaking the law, I was told to use my phone and use the police app to make a complain. Well, if I did that, then they would fine me for using my mobile phone while driving. Another time, early in the morning, I was at a signal. This guy in Lexus came along side and cut in front. The queue was 3 cars. Mine being the 3rd. The could have easily stayed behind me and gone through the signal. But because he cut in front, the car in front of me took too long to get through and I missed the signal. I was late for an appointment that day because of him and his idiocy #RantOver

During my 13 years in Guatemala I have made it my mission to be the nice driver who avoid accidents and angry drivers.
The behavior is contagious. Today more people (in the capital) than ever before are polite, use their indicators, shows empathy and kindness.
Be nice, it pays off in the long run.

Taxis are not the main problem. They are in town, but they behave on rural roads, and that is where the aggression is worst. Its mostly white guys in powerful cars that scare me.
