The song is bittersweet because he died in a plane crash at 30 and didn’t get that time with his wife and son, then you hear the words and it brings a tear to your eye
Taken from us far, far too soon, Jim was a beautiful guy, & a wonderful singer / songwriter. ------------What a love song, this was played at many weddings in the 70's. -------------------------------Wolfsky9, 73 y/o
I grew up in the 60's and a teenager it the 70's and this generation of songs were so clear and sincere and simple with love throughout. I wish today's music could soften and make us remember innocent love. Thank you!
I was a big Jim Croce fan. He was just coming into his own as a popular, singer, songwriter when he was killed in a plane crash in 1973. I remember the exact moment when I heard he had passed. I was devastated! I immediately thought of his wife and young son.
Jim Croce wrote this song for his newborn son, AJ. Because his birth put life in perspective for Jim Croce. Croce wrote I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song for his wife Ingrid because, although he was a great songwriter, he had a tough time conveying his love and feelings to her. He wrote the song after they had an argument. Sadly Jim Croce died soon after he recorded Time In A Bottle, in a plane crash in 1973. Jim Croce was a wonderful storyteller. All of his songs came from his experiences. You should listen to Operator and Photographs and Memories, Bad Bad Leroy Brown and Lover's Cross..
I remember my mom playing this song for my sisters and me when I was a kid back in the late '70s. First she told us about Croce, what happened to him, how his career and life were tragically cut short, and then she played us the song. I remember crying. I was only 7 or 8, just a little boy, but it was an emotional experience. I didn't have the intellectual wherewithal at that age to properly verbalize how it made me feel, but I had been struck by the idea that this man's voice and the emotion he was conveying had survived him, and had been sitting there in my mom's record cabinet, captured on twelve inches of vinyl, waiting to be heard. Croce was a wonderfully gifted singer/songwriter, and it's a shame that modern audiences probably have no idea who he is. I'd wager most don't even know that was his song "I've Got a Name" in the Tarantino flick "Django Unchained."
@@bropous4265 That's a relief. I thought all that was love was just because I'm remarkably good-looking. Glad to know I'm appreciated for my personality, too. :D
Sang this song in 9th grade choir (spring 1973). Memorized the words and music but never focused on the lyrical meaning of Jim Croce’s song. Amazing talent combining heartfelt lyrics along with a memorable melody. Thanks for your analysis and insight into this gem of the 1970s, Kirti and Savio.
This very song made me strive to play music, sing, and write. Jim Croce, taken far too early, was roommate with Don MacLean in college! Imagine. Thank you for another nice reaction. Good thoughts expressed as well. Cherish precious time.
There will never be another like Jim, his death was musics loss, our loss. It's a shame that he wasn't able to make it out of the business like he wanted to, he had already made up his mind. Just like so many other talented people, that life claimed him.
Jim Croce was the best. All of his songs are great. Just beautiful songs about his real life experiences! A beautiful voice! 🎤He didn't have a bad song! Taken from us too soon. His guitar🎸 accompanied partner, Maury Muehleisin who played the best lead guitar and background vocals was also killed in the plane crash. A sad day. Left us some beautiful music.🎼✌
One of the most beautifully written songs ever. Little hard for me to get through, having lost my wife to cancer a few years back, but it embodies so much the love I had for her and will for eternity. This song is eternal for every soul as well.
A little thing I remember hearing when one of his friends was on a talk show. During the period of time he was preparing this album he was having to stay up late at night and even all night on some occasions and his wife was getting mad that he was neglecting her and his own health, she finely told him he needed to stop the next night early or he would be sleeping on the couch for the rest of the time he was doing the album. He apparently had every intention of doing as she asked but he needed tow more songs and he was close to dun on one so he pushed to finish it not releasing he had, You guessed it, Stayed up to late again. He found blankets and a pillow on the couch waiting for him. He was puzzling out how to get back on her good side and getting the last song he needed and Presto, He wrote her this dong to smooth things over. :)
Jim Croce...........WOW
Rest In peace Jim Croce

He never lived long enough to enjoy his success...talk about time...and not enough.

Just a beautiful song . . . as were many by him.
It's very hard to explain what LOVE is, but this song comes really close .
"Operator" is my favorite Jim Croce song! This is a good one to.
Hello, I’m pretty sure he wrote that song for his son, but you’re right, beautiful and heartfelt.
Some of the best folk stories music of the 70s generation so if the best music ever recorded

So sad that Jim Croce died in a plane crash. He left us too soon.
A masterpiece.

Another great one lost in an airplane crash so young. I remember when it happened. What a loss.

He had a great way of putting things and he just started to make his mark but at 30 (1973) we lost this gentle soul. I will miss him.
My mother rarely talks about music, but I remember her telling me that this was her favorite song. Impeccable.
Great review of a beautiful song
Love you Enona you recognize quality you two are special to ?e
I love Jim Croce, check out: I got a Name, Operator, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Working at the car wash blues, & Alabama Rain. Wonderful music
I remember the day he died. I was devastated. He was a favorite of mine and he died way too young

Great song and artist! Love your reactions! Namaste
Back in the day, I sang this for many weddings!
Croce was another great story teller in American folk music. You should listen to 'Operator' or 'Bad, Bad Leroy Brown's.
Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
Very nice. Look into more of his songs. 👍🏻😃
It's funny, but my first experience with this song was on The Muppet Show when I was a kid. The sketch and the song were so moving to me as a child.
Semper Legens same here.
Poetry + Music = Jim Croce
I love your stories and your wife is lovely
I had to sing this in the Choral class in 7th grade, Teacher was a big fan.I SURE AS HELL didnt get a solo
My man Jim was spittin bars on the low
Good use of harmonics in this guitar playing at the end.
Truck drivers,....rebels and dreamers, seeking the unknown, yet yearning for home. Jim was a trucker.
I'm sure folks have mentioned it , but this is a very popular wedding song in the US.
Someone request more Jim Croce!
❤️
Jim Croce wrote this song after his son was born. May I recommend checking out a bunch of Harry Chapin songs, especially Taxi. Love your reactions.

The time factor is much more important because Jin Croce died at 30.
Try listening to ‘Harry’s Bar’ (How wonderful you are) by Gordon Haskell 😀
Try Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin (rip)
He reminds me of John Denver. Check out Annie's song by John. Even if you don't do a reaction. please play it for your wife. Peace. And Love
Listen to Lover's cross.
